After the Schiano disaster, who would go there at this point?

I'd think a guy like Gene Chizik who is a big ego would go there, but who will they get?

Crazy to think that the next Head Coach will be the FIFTH in the last 11 years.

That's a lot of buy out money, folks.

Here is the discussion on ESPN: www.espn.com/video/clip?id=21579195

Finebaum weighs in, too; it sounds like the Tennessee AD (in the job 9 months) is in way over his head. Gruden and Mullen have turned him down and now this disaster.

Finebaum asks what coach would want this job now?

UT is a top 20 job. There are hundreds of D1 coaches who would take that job.

So OP asked who will they be able to get and your response is "somebody"? Really going out on a limb...... (I kid, I kid)

Yes they will get somebody, but this is bad. It seems hard to believe they would grab a no name guy and will have to overpay for anyone with other interest.

I chuckled at this part of one write-up:

Brady Hoke (Tennessee interim)
Hoke, 59, has been coach of the year in three different conferences, including the Big Ten. Hoke was named Tennessee’s associate head coach and defensive line coach in February after a season as defensive coordinator at Oregon. He spent four seasons as Michigan’s coach and went 31-20 but was fired after going 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten in 2014. Hoke was the defensive line coach on the Wolverines’ 1997 national championship team.

There are plenty of really good coaches who are OC/DC/lower-level HC. Most fans have no idea who most of them are. A good AD can find a good coach and hire him. Fans are obsessed with names they know.

So, I can't name a specific individual. But there are really good coaches out there to be found, who would take the job in a heartbeat.

Nebraska and Tennessee are top 20 jobs. Fans saying "who would coach there now?" are wishful thinking. 99% of D1 football coaches would take those jobs.

Completely agree. Penn St didn't have much trouble finding a couple high-quality coaches following the biggest sports scandal of my lifetime.

In some ways this could be good for Tennessee. They'll probably keep Hoke as interim head coach for '18. In the meantime they can hire an A.D. who's not a moron, and will have a year to do a thorough search for their man, instead of a scramble for a "name coach," which seemed to be the case.

This is not just about head coaches but assistants and coordinators too. How would you get your best people to follow you there?

I could see Jeff Brohm at Tennessee next year and I'll top that with Mike Gundy going to Texas A&M as the Big 12 is not as stable a turf outside of Oklahoma.

Gundy's record against Oklahoma (Bedlam series) might be a sore spot and he might be ready for a serious change. He recruits Texas well.

They won't get anybody worth a crap, I mean who in their right mind would want to go to a place that on rumors tried to end somebody's career, what a bunch of entitled morons!

I actually think the Tennessee job should be rated higher than what the perception is.

It is in fertile recruiting grounds.
Conference and division is not as hard as it is made to be.
Athletic department wants to win / facilities are good
Low expectations generally after their last 2 hires
Decent tradition and fan base.

Please name 20 jobs that are better than NE and TN.

Since you did not specify the schools did not have a HC coach vacancy right now; a good start would be to pick 20 schools from the CFP or AP or USA top 25s.

1.Bama
2. Texas
3. Oklahoma
4. Florida
5. FSU
6. GA
7. Osu
8. PSU
9. CLEM
10. USC
11. Stan
12. Miami
13. Auburn
14. LSU
15. ND
16. UCLA
17. OKy st.
18. TCU
19. Mich
20. Miss state (this is probably close to TN but they have more in state recruits)

That would be 20 ahead of TN there are about 10-15 more before Nebraska. In today's world the idea of having to recruit all of your talent from out of state is a big defector.

I can easily pick AP top 25 schools that are much lower jobs than TE/NE:

UCF
Memphis
TCU
OkSU
Miami
Washington
NW
MSU
WSU
USF
MissSU
SDSU

Things are a little rocky atop ol’ rocky top, no doubt. How many here would have thought this is where they would be after that drubbing all those freshman and sophomores gave us in the Taxslayer? Looked like Butch had things going in the right direction....college football is a fickle bitch.

I was actually thinking frost might be an option. He is a hot enough name to please the fan base and they are not getting gruden.
