flowrestling just announced Mejia vs Spencer Lee at this year's WNO!!! Hopefully both will be Hawkeyes!

Evidently Mejia is out of the IAWrestle event because WNO is the same day? Unfortunate but for a shot to wrestle Lee I can't blame him.

I hope NO ONE blames him. Need to show support for the young committed Hawkeye. Justin was asked to take on the number one kid and he's not backing down. I just hope we are witnessing the future 25/33 pounders for the Hawks!

Is this freestyle or folksyle?

Disappointing to see a kid agree to something, and then back out when something else comes along. At least he gets Spencer Lee now...

Flo coming after C@C because Tony didn't let Flo be the video provider, lol.

Flo is the illuminati of the wrestling world
If you believe that then try this on:
Last week Willie hinted that Lee may verbal early. What better way to torture you guys than to have your top lightweight commit get handled by Lee at WNO and have Lee verbal elswhere just after getting his hand raised? Might as well have Marinelli and Hall go at it for good measure and have Hall narrow his list to 3 that are not Iowa right after.

Papa is dropping bombs this morning. It's funny, yet scary

wasdt21,

I would be careful poking the bear. At the rate he is going, his next post may have Marinelli announcing he is de-committing right after his match in Carver Hawkeye................

Glad he gets the opportunity. It is a shame the event is the same weekend. Carver doesn't open up very often so its impossible for us to change date.

Plenty of other horses in the stable for this event. Thomsen could get an even tougher opponent. Everything happens for a reason.

Thanks Tony for the info! Can you get Lee on the podcast with a Hawkeye commitment too? It would make for a better weekend.

So pumped for this. My #1 and #2 overall 125/133 recruits on my board.

I could speak to a bunch of things I've heard about Lee but really .... Put all that aside and go listen to his interviews. Close your eyes and tell me who is talking and who he is a spitting image of?

It aint Cael. You cant fit a square peg in a round whole. You cant turn a Sith into a Jedi.

As for the Bull, no way that kid isn't in Iowa City the first time he graduates and can move here. Did you hear him on takedown radio? He hated Columbus because it was too city, too many tall buildings, too big for him to focus on whats important. The Classroom and his wrestling. Nothing else comes in between. Iowa city reminds him of St paris graham in that it will allow him just those two things and no distractions.

Guys we got a special one coming to town with Maranelli. He is wise behind his years and make no mistake. Alex will be a room and teaml leader captian type from day one. Just like Metcalf was even though Perry was already in the room. He will be the guy to lead this team mentally and the herd will follow him. Hes a special one. Spencer can just be Spencer, same for Kem, Mejia, jRent etc. Alex will be one heck of a coach someday. We are very lucky. You just know that personality when you see it. I hear a bit of an old soul with him.

Can't agree more about The Bull. Talked to him a couple times and he said no way he goes away from the Hawks. He's going to be an unbelievable addition. You also talk like Spencer Lee is already a Hawkeye. Damn I hope that's true.

I hope we're not basing our expectations on Lee coming here on the fact that he supposedly sounds or doesn't sound like someone when he talks.

Yes, we're all idiots and figure that's all it's going to take to get a commitment from him. I guess the only question now is does Hall sign after he does?

Let's keep up the support for Justin! Mejia's are a great family. I hope Justin and his family realize that we want him to compete his tail off at who's number one and then get to Carver in a few years! Maybe he can talk Lee into joining us as well!

Agreed, Chief. I commend Justin for jumping at the opportunity to wrestle a phenomenal talent in Lee. I'm sure the IAWrestle guys understand, too. Frankly, the easy road would have been to decline the invitation to Who's Number One, citing the obligation to the Conflict in Carver. The tougher road was the one Justin chose -- to take on the best pound-for-pound guy in next year's recruiting class without the support of the Iowa crowd. I tip my hat, and I suspect nearly all Iowa fans feel the same.

And I hope Spencer makes Papa Bear's day and announces that he'll be a Hawk right after the post-match handshake!

I have talked to Mark Hall and he doesn't sound like anyone of your coaches or Gable. Yes I did have my eyes closed when I was listening to him Ihawk9times! He sounding a lot like Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner, does that mean he is going to ..............?

Bruce went to college in Iowa...

Im hoping Mejia can at least hang with Lee and give him a match. Lee likes and wants good sparring partners and I'd think a competitive match with Justin would make Iowa seem even more attractive to him.

Love your take on the match up. I'm hoping Lee gives his verbal and iron sharpens iron!

I try to call it like I see it and leave bias and emotion out of it. I'll be rooting for Mejia, cause he's a Hawkeye commit and Lee isn't, (yet) but I've watched dozens of Mejia's matches and I just can't see how he'll get in on Lee's legs and finish on Lee's iron hips. If Mejia keeps it close, he'll do it with his heart. He's a tough SOB, definitely Tony Ramos like. I liken this match to Tony's match against the Cuban where Tony got outclassed, but continued to attack despite ultimately getting teched.

Agreed. There came a point where he had to make a choice, and he made it. Some will agree with it and some won't. We're talking about 1 match, 1 day. I'm far more concerned about him being in Iowa City for 5 years and what happens while he's a Hawkeye.
