Who's the most famous person you've ever met?

I lived in Vail for 5 years, met celebrities all the time.

The coolest of the cool? Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix), really nice guy. Hung out with him several years when he would come back.

I have met Greg Madux and been in his company a couple of times. My brother lives on the same golf course as him in Vegas and they play golf together. Cool guy overall. Didn't talk much baseball so I wouldn't look like a complete fan.

Sitting at Caesars Palace in Vegas I started a conversation with a guy next to me at a bar. Talked football. Said I was a bigger college fan vs NFL. Talked Iowa Football and other random stuff for about 3 drinks. I finally figured out it was Lynn Swan.

One advantage of working for a newspaper is that even if the newspaper isn't a major one, you end up meeting famous people as part of the job, especially politicians if you work in Iowa.

So my contribution is somebody I didn't quite meet -- just talked to through a closed door. Jane Fonda was in Blackfoot, Idaho trying to learn something about the American Indian Movement and didn't want to be interviewed. So she wasn't. But I tried.

She was probably not happy you kept calling her Hanoi ...

Condi Rice, former Secretary of Stste
Jerry Jones, Owner of the Dallas Cowboys
Brian Mulrooney, former PM of Canada
Alex Rodriguez, when he played for the Rangers
Earl Campbell. We watched a MNF game in an empty bar in Austin

was handed a VIP pass after a Weezer show and met and had my picture taken with Rivers Cuomo a few years back.

The place that was next door to my wedding reception had a class reunion. at the class reunion, Ron Livingston (from 'Office Space' fame) was there. ended up getting to meet him.

Probably OJ. Hung out with him at the Olympic trials back in 92. He was a color man and we were staying at the same hotel.

I've met quite a few athletes and a number of political figures as well though.

Did you tell him you like the Confederate flag?

No

That reminds me that I did meet Dean Paul Martin skiing in New Mexico one year. He chatted me up big time, then behind my back walked away with the girl I'd been hanging with. I guess I got the last laugh shortly after...

I live near D.C. and have met a few political people:

Chuck Robb at a fundraiser for wounded service members in 2007. I thought he was a Republican and I told him I was a "huge Republican" and asked him why our government wouldn't close the border with Mexico. He gave me some runaround political b.s. answer.

Bob Schieffer CBS News Anchor in 2007 during the Presidential race. He was telling a group how he didn't like Obama or McCain and that if Monica Lewinsky was his daughter he would have "killed Clinton." He was a nice guy to me. Only talked to him for 5 seconds.

Tony Snow (RIP) Bush's White House Press Secretary in 2007. I told him his job must be hard and he said "My job is easy. I love working for President Bush. He comes off differently on TV. In real life, he's the smartest guy in the room." (Yeah right) Snow was friendly enough.

Boomer Esiason NFL Quarterback. Met him around 2004 at a University of Maryland basketball game on the floor. Talked to him for about 5 seconds. He was very friendly.

Laura Ingraham Fox News Anchor. I met her in 2008 at a sporting goods store. She was in line and I lied and told her I was a huge fan of her show. She was very friendly. We talked about politics for a minute and she said "Bush is a Patriot but he was a total disaster as President." I told her people were sick of the Republican wars and she said "that's right." She's also about half as attractive in real life than she is on TV.

I saw Fran Drescher the actress from "the Nanny" at a high end steak joint in D.C. in 2008. She seemed friendly. Her laugh was so loud you could hear it across the street.

My Mom knows Stephen Colbert and his family well. Colbert is a very nice guy.

You've met Mark Dukes, too, so don't forget about that.

Very cool list. I consulted on a piece Scott Pelley did for 60 minutes.

Steve Young and Emmit Smith
Was chatting with Steve outside of Reliant Stadium after a Monday night game and he was saying he's never seen so many nice cars in a players lot. He was joking that he drives a minivan since he has a horde of children. Emmit then comes over and said it was time to go.
Also Junior Seau, Ricky Williams, Zach Thomas, Chad Greenway, Adrian Peterson.

Forgot that I see Mark Shields and David Brooks around town. I know where Shields lives. He seems friendly. He's old as F.

Brooks I haven't talked to but he's short.

I met Lawrence Taylor at a hotel in SF. He was very friendly. We were chatting and two women in mini skirts approached him, and that was the end of the conversation. He left with the two hookers.

What were they like? I'm especially interested in Bob Knight and Charlie Daniels.

Ed O'Neill from Married With Children bought my ex wife and I a beer.I got to hang out with blues guitarist Albert Collins for about an hour back in the day.

Despite his reputation Coach Knight was a perfect gentleman and very cordial. Charlie Daniels is what he is...an old country boy. Bobby Plump was very personable. Met him at his restaurant in Broad Ripple several years ago. Hitting a last second shot in a hs basketball championship game has it's perks. Archie Manning is a down to earth Mississippi boy...his wife is an arrogant snob. I have never met Peyton but they say he is like Archie...Eli is an arrogant snob like his mama. Bill Anderson I met standing in a checkout lane in Krogers...just a regular guy. Nolan Richardson was my least favorite...you could tell he is a racist.

Coach Knight actually has a great reputation among his players and people that know him. He also has a great record in terms of being ethical and playing by the rules as a Coach.

He just goes psycho a few times a year so people assume he's always like that.
