Who's the most famous person you've ever met?

Coach Knight actually has a great reputation among his players and people that know him. He also has a great record in terms of being ethical and playing by the rules as a Coach.

He just goes psycho a few times a year so people assume he's always like that.
When he coached he had an insatiable mania for perfection...in his coaching, the performance of his players and the performance of the officials. Just the way it was.

Met and was introduced by a mutual friend to Leonardo DiCaprio at a small dive bar in Hollywood for a private Run DMC show in '96, he was sitting at the bar all by himself. Also met Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dave Navarro and Alanis Morrissette at that same show as there was only about 100 people invited.

Spent an evening partying with David Schwimmer at his club the dragon room in Chicago in '98 or so. Same mutual friend as Leo. We then went to breakfast the next morning with Billy Deck who was just a party promoter at the time. Saw him on Good Morning America about a month ago.

Met Ashton at the Field House in '98 right after That 70's show came out. My buddies GF went to high school with him and introduced us and we hang out for a few minutes scanning the dance floor. He was by himself as well.

Physically ran into and almost knocked over Ted Kennedy when I was 14 at Capital Hill, My family and I were walking up some stair case and I opened a door and wasnt watching where I was going and ran right into him. He had a security detail with him.

Did he try to have you thrown into the trunk of an Oldsmobile?

When I was probably 8, I was at an event with my parents that Bobby Knight spoke at. Being a kid and dumb I tried to get him to sign a copy of Season on the Brink. He declined

Also when I was like 12 I was at an event with Sarah Jessica Parker. Surprisingly nice rack

Do you blame him? Just another sneaky Jew he trusted and allowed him access to the program and he stabbed him in the back. I wouldn't have signed anything that fraud wrote.

Did I say I blamed him. As a kid I saw his picture in the book and tried to get him to sign it. Clearly the book did not paint his program in a positive light. But I was freaking under ten years old and did not understand this

When my wife lived in SoCal she had mutual friends with David Grohl. He would meet them out occasionally to watch the mutual friends band play. She said the first time she met him she didn't even realize it was him until someone told her...she said he's just a normal dude.

Mickey Mantle: I was at a trade show. They had 3 cameras set up to have your picture taken with him. I walked up and as I shook his hand I said, "Did your Dad really say he was raising boys not grass?" Mick kind of stopped, got a really soft look in his eye, and with a kind grin said to me, "Yea, he really did." We looked at the camera, I got my photo, and I walked away with a great moment I will never forget.

Heard that he didn't show up when they honored the 1976 team. So much for being there for his players. I guess Dakich is not a fan. I met Coach Knight as well back when I was a sophomore in hs.

Gale Sayers
Tony Dorsett
Charlie Ward
Had lunch with all three of these guys at a Fiesta Bowl function in 1999. Sayers and Ward looked like they couldn't be bothered and were sullen. Dorsett had a great time taking pictures with everyone and telling stories and just enjoying every minute of the festivities.

I also met John McCain and Rudy Giuliani at the Fiesta Bowl game that same year. Both were friendly and sitting in the stands like regular guys.

Micheal Bidwill. I've met him several times tailgating at Cardinal games. He would often come out to the tailgating area to talk to fans and get their feelings about the team and the game experience. Probably the wealthiest of all the ones listed.

Jess Settles is the only semi-famous person that I can think of that I've had a conversation with.

A few years ago we were tailgating in the rv lot when he walked by. I said, "there's Jess Settles". He heard me and came over, then we talked basketball for a few minutes. Very nice guy.

Patrick J. Buchanan.

Back when I was a republican I met with him several times as I was very involved with his campaign.

Never again: politicians are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy down at the bottom of the barrel for me.

His nephew was my friend in high school.

What was the problem with Pat?

I have been very fortunate through some opportunities with a few jobs I've held:
I met a some stars at a reception after a celebrity pro-am in LA: Jack Nicholson, Walter Mathau, Jack Lemmon, James Woods, Robert Wagner, etc.
Muhammad Ali (in Vegas - I was coming back to my hotel room at 5:30 a.m., he was going to workout)
Willie Mays
Bob Hope
Aaron Rodgers
Jerry Reinsdorf (Bulls / White Sox owner)
Rocky Wirtz (Blackhawks owner), many current and former Blackhawks
Mike McCarthy (Packers Coach)
Jennifer Hudson
Harry Caray (at a "roast" for him into the broadcasters hall of fame )
Colbie Caillat
Stan Musial
Larry Hagman
Jim Leach
Bob Woodward (Watergate reporter at an airport terminal last year)

Dr. Max. I was on his show circa 1960.
(Let's see if anyone even knows who even knows who Dr. Max and Mombo were.)

Well then I guess I'm dating myself too. I used to watch Dr. Max and Mombo, and haven't thought of that in probably 35 years.

Speaking of dating yourself, I met (and got autographs) from a lot of great celebrities at the old Amana VIP. Used to go every year, did anyone else? Fran Tarkenton, Gerald Ford, Tom Watson, etc etc.

Since then, outside of Iowa celebrities, I'd say the most famous person I met was also OJ Simpson and Nicole. The BEST celebrity encounter, however, was Bernie Mac. Long story, but great guy who talked me up for an hour. Met him a few times. Also through work I met Marv Levy a few times. I knew Dave Duerson pretty well (RIP). Jim Thome. And, as my profile pic shows, a couple weeks ago Larry Fitzgerald.

I've told this story before, but I grew up in Iowa City but did my undergrad at IU. So a big Hawkeye fan in Bloomington. When Steve Alford came back his first year or two in the NBA he was doing a book signing for his book "Playing for Knight." I asked him to sign it "To Don, Go Hawkeyes, Steve Alford" for my dad. He rolled his eyes but did it.

This was like a decade before he became Iowa's head coach, and yes I'm prepared to take full blame for putting the bug in his head.

Nothing was the problem with Pat - he is a great guy and I still watch him if he's on the McGlaughlin Group.

I just decided to swear off voting and embraced a hybrid libertarian/anarchist outlook on life: the republicans lied about too many issues for me to ever consider them trustworthy again. :)

Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie from Full House) spoke at my college about her drug addiction. I was her transportation to and from the hotel.

Also, I brushed shoulders with Lebron James on Michigan Avenue in Chicago a few years ago. I am 6'6" so we made eye contact. I knew who he was, but didn't get all fanboy on him. I just said "Whats up?" and played it cool. I was leaving NikeTown and he was going in, so my wife and I turned around and watched him look at shoes for a while.

I've met Joe Bonamassa....SUPER nice guy, Hal Holbrook, Emmett Kelly, Jr, Riders in the Sky,and Red Skelton (at a Target store in West Des Moines of all places). He was in town to do a show. He bought all his props rather than ship them. Always bought them at Target.

Technically didn't "meet" him, but stood next to Ronnie Schell (Duke Slater in "Gomer Pyle") at a company function.

I shared a lane in the old downtown DSM Y pool with General Wesley Clark. He's a really good swimmer and seemed like a good egg.

Lance Armstrong, Jacob Dylan (The Wallflowers) and Chris Fowler in a bar after a concert in Austin. My friends girlfriend's brother was a high school friend of Jacob Dylan so they were hanging out with a group of us in the bar for an hour or so. It was a year or two before Lance Armstrong "won" his first Tour de France. I knew he was a good cyclist who was coming back from cancer, but he wasn't famous/infamous yet.

he was famous around here even before the cancer

1. President Obama: Came to my place of work while he was running for president.
2. Captain 11: Big deal for NW Iowa, SE Minnesota, and South Dakota kids back in the day.
3. Torii Hunter in Vegas
4. Lindsay and Janet from Real World 7: Seattle... Cool chicks. Both were pretty hot. I am sure both are pushing 40 now. Partied with them once in Twin Cities.

True. He wasn't just some obscure cyclist. I recall it being a benefit concert for cancer that he organized. He was certainly well known down there, just wasn't well known nationally yet.
he used to ride around here with a darn postal uniform on and a Motorola uniform {jersey} don't recall in which order, I think it was postal first, maybe I'm wrong

T

You kids. I go back to Marshall Jay.
Bean
So do I
I couldn't remember his name though
Heard he showed up drunk most of the time but early enough to sober up by tape time.
The tac room was the building at the base of the tower from what I was told
