Maybe growing up in SE part of Iowa, I never game them any thought. They annoy me about as much as Purdue or Maryland. I've only been to Nebraska once and that was about four years ago. Please discuss.

Went to college in Nebraska. Can't truly understand the delusion you live there. Prime example: in 1996, they went 10-2 and several out there, including the media, claimed that they should be in the Sugar Bowl, because the refs screwed them twice. Just one example, but I'm so glad I don't have to live out there and hear it. I feel bad for those that do. Just imagine thousands of people just like those Husker fans that have come over to our board for this week.

It's their fans, primarily. They are, with few exceptions, truly awful and unhappy human beings. Additionally, it's that Tom Osborne is one of the biggest sham coaches in the history of the game. His vaunted "walk on" program was nothing more than unchecked steroid abuse. Throw in his moral sacrifices, i.e. Christian Peters and Lawrence Phillips among a host of others, and the man is truly the definition of "scumbag."

They are nice people when not talking about the Huskers. But once they do, they are as dumb a fan base as there is. They all listen to their idiotic radio talk shows that talk as if Nebraska football was created on the 8th day. They are a bunch of entitled, spoiled, whiny brats. They have fired 2 coaches in the last decade after 9 win seasons because they think they deserve better. I sure hope we serve them some humble pie on Black Friday. They deserve it.

I'm from Sioux City. I feel like that says it all. Being so close to each other over here has caused its animosity.

I have to laugh at the guys who get on here and are so confused why people on here hate Nebraska. I then tell myself, "They must not have ever lived on the West side of the state. I have dealt with arrogant, ill-logical, 5-time and never let it down National Champion-Huskers my whole life.

To sum it up, it is the fans that have caused the sour taste for me.

Maybe it's a Minnesota thing -- I've never given much thought to Nebraska. My hatred has always been towards the Gophers and team located in Ames.

If you don't know why, you've never met a Nebraska fan. Same can be said for Iowa State (at least for Hawkeye fans) and Notre Dame (for everyone on Earth).

While yes I hate the huskers, it's not based on their fans as well they are fans what do you expect. I have met some Hawk fans who are just as bad if not worse, every fan base has them. When you're not part of the fan base you just see them more because you don't like the team.

Well that can't be true. You couldn't possibly hate someone as much as most hated rival Purdue.

I am also from the east side of the state, and I have traditionally had more interest in the Illinois game. Fierce fierce Illinois.

I totally agree. I have met awful fans from both sides. However, I have to accept the Iowa idiots and do my part to counter that.

However, Nebraska, there is no way to help them. ;)

But yeah, I agree with the all fan bases have bad fans.

One guy already touched on it - there was a perception back in the day that Nebraska 'did it the right way'. Hindsight proves that to be bullsh*t.

On top of that, there are soooooo many bandwagon fans (my wife's family is a prime example) that couldn't tell the difference between a forward pass and punt who continually shoot thier mouths off about how great they are.

Yea, I grew up in NW Iowa - way too close to the stupidity.

I don't hate them. I did hate their old ball coach (pelinni) for his behavior and his attitude. I just thought he sent the wrong message to coaches and the way he talked about the administration and boosters was just shocking and not good

They are no worse than ISU fans, Illinois fans, and other teams fans. Each fan base has good/bad fans. The key is ignoring the bad fans and interacting with the good fans.

I remember when I lived in Kansas the only fans I would really notice were Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska fans. Kansas and KSU fans were pretty chill.

When I lived in Louisiana I had to deal with LSU, Texas, and conference super fans. Conference fans are scum.

it's easy to say because of their fans.....but that's a cop-out, fans are fans, some nice, some idiots, some jerk-offs. Nebraska does not have the market cornered on jerk-off fans.

The real reason we can't stand them so much is because they were so good for so long. It's human nature to dislike someone who wins all the time, that's just the way it is. Then if you grew up in Western Iowa (I did), you got it shoved in your face ALL the time.....and so general dislike became hate.

Then you had some of your friends that lived in Iowa and were Husker fans....not because they had any connection to the Huskers what-so-ever.....but just because they were front runners, and that pissed you off too.

For me it's the Minnesota thing as well. It's not the Gopher team so much as a good portion of their fans. I will say going on the gopherhole message board, they seem to detest Bucky a lot more than Iowa. For the most part they think Iowa fans are much better over the past 15 years or so. As others have stated, each fan base has their share of idiots.

Every fan base has bad fans. Nebraska takes it to a whole different level. Come spend some time in western Iowa around them and their media, and you'll see. Arrogant, delusional douches.

I guess I always thought it was because we have such a little-brother complex with them.

Feels good to get out of their shadow and into the glorious Iowa sun for a least a single moment in my life. Savoring this year HARD.

I don't hate Nebby.

Growing up and living my whole life in Eastern Iowa I could care less about them.

I would rank my hate this way:

Iowa State
Wisky
NW
Minny
UNI
OSU

Like what was said Arrogant and Delusional.
Talking to several fans that live in Omaha they mentioned ( and I believe mentioned in the Omaha world herald) during the Callahan era that their walk on program wwnt to pot because UNO and NW Missouri state were stealing their players. they were only able to destroy UNO because no one should compete with UNL

I also remember getting phone calls from non hawkeye fans to turn the station and watch the Nebraska-Kansas game when Kansas just about put a hundred on them in the first half. Then the next morning's article in world herald likened the fall of the program to a brother dying.Just because they got a taste of their own medicine buy running up the score on the KU,KSU, ISU,OSU,Mizzou's of the world and only playing 1 game a year (oklahoma) to get to the orange bowl

Delusion and when they were good they weren't any cleaner than Miami. They were a win at all cost team and TO is not that really nice guy they like to think and say he was-- the guy hid a gun his player used in a crime.... Until the police came asking him for it.

You are such a poor troll. Everything our of your mouth proves you are a nebby troll.
Sorry, just beaten down a bit by them I guess. Lots of family over there and, in my lifetime, I just haven't had much to crow about at the holidays.

As an Iowa fan, I would freaking DIE for 9 wins a year. And then they fire Pelini? What a slap in the face to me. At least when he was there I could make fun of them for having a maniac roaming the sidelines...so thank the lord we finally did something noteworthy this year.

But, I just feel like we'll fall short of them again this year. No way we win a title, and they have what like 5 in recent history? You know how hard that is for all of us Hawks to compete with???

Sorry, end rant. But I think I'm saying what a lot of us know is true. Our accomplishments just pale in comparison to them and until we actually win something, all of my touting of Iowa football to them feels soooo dang hollow.

Grew up in Dubuque

Illinois and Wisconsin were the teams we "hated" most

Always respected Nebraska and rooted for them in their bowl games.

This sums it up best for me. Growing up before the internet and local news and papers were your only options, we were subjected to Omaha media's non-stop Husker coverage. My one saving grace was Sunday mornings. Getting the Register and opening up the Big Peach to read about my Hawkeyes.

I, too, could not stand the bandwagon Husker fans on the east side of the river. Picking a team for convenience of being good over your home state team (either Iowa or IA St) and then rubbing it in just rubbed me wrong.

The fans yes. More so the Omaha media. On September 11th 2001 the lead off story on KETV was "When will the Huskers play football again."

They're terrible. Half of their coverage map is in Iowa and you would be lucky to see an Iowa or Iowa State score. You never would see highlights. Not when sports coverage is "The Big Red Zone."

That and their fight song makes me want to puke. Screw Nebraska.

Recent history? Just remind your family that the Huskers haven't been relevant this millennium, and are no longer the national power they still think they are. Nobody wants to play football for Nebraska anymore.

Well yeah, recent is a relative term. But I think it's been 3 in my lifetime.

And obviously ZERO for us. It's hard to argue when they say "scoreboard" or "trophy case", and it's not like I wasn't old enough to feel the pain of them winning freaking 3 of 4 years. That's one of the most amazing accomplishments in CFB history.

Sure we've had better end of year rankings a few times, but our title came in 1958. I'm not that old so it's pretty much meaningless.

Let it go! It was soooooo long ago when the Huskers were good. Heck, even Minny has more national titles than Nebraska, but they don't spend all their time crowing about it like those clueless Nebraska fans because, again, last Millennium and all that.
