Florida and Ohio St had whole rosters of 4 and 5 Star recruits. Iowa as far as I know has only one 5 star. 55-24!!! Could some one do the math on so called quality of recruits on both teams. Also grad rates would be interesting.

Lol, dude....Urban wins NC, Kirk wins Conf. Titles...sometimes....it’s been a while.

I don't think we won that game because of Kirk. We won that game because of the changes BF made to the offense from last year, and a lot of those changes go against Kirk's tendencies.

OSU losing 2 starting olinemen and a future 1st rounder on the dline had a lot to do with it too

They both came back, no? And Iowa played without two starting Oline the entire game, no?

Neither of those lines were the same after the injuries and ejection. I don't think those lineman were 100% when they came back

We constantly deal with injuries that have a bigger impact on us than those should have on OSU with their 5 star filled deep rosters. I couldn't believe the stat the announcers mentioned where OSU hadn't lost a season opener OL starter to injury during Meyer's tenure at OSU. I can't imagine what Kirk might be able to achieve at Iowa with virtually no OL injuries.

Lol. This is why I love frequenting this board. Every week...just when I think I've seen the height of hyperbole...lol.

Last week: OSU playoff contender and threat to beat Bama; Matt Campbell=God; Iowa State becoming the Huskers circa 1990s; Ferentzes=con artists, incompetent, bullheaded, worst offensive imaginations in the history of football. FIRE FERENTZ! BRING BACK GREG DAVIS!

The pendulum swings...

The difference between Kirk Ferentz and Urban Meyer
is their personalities. Kirk has always been a classy
guy with humble character and integrity. Urban is more of
an egotist who thinks that he is the best football coach
on the planet.

Bottom Line: After the loss to Iowa yesterday, the press
conference with Urban Meyer lasted less than 4 minutes.

No one with a competitive bone in their body beats their chest when their team is not playing well. Iowa losing to NW and looking flat against Minny will cause fans to overreach for solutions.

Yes, or after one game champion Kirk Ferentz as the best coach in college football. ;)

I disagree, we have a great leader for our program in Kirk Ferentz, and he he instills an attitude that with hard work and discipline we can beat anybody. I think we are lucky to have him leading the Hawkeyes!

Where were you a couple weeks ago?

Apples and Oranges.Cap is a truly Superior P.R. coach.Cap could be a govenor some day no? GREAT at kissing babies no? Still oranges and apples yes!

I'm going to attempt to respond in hopes that I'm understanding your question. They are both coaches and thus when comparing who is a better coach it would not be "apples and oranges." If you wanted to say KF is a better human, sure. kF has done alot for Iowa and represents the state very well. If you boil it down to "a coaches job is to win football games". Which it is. Urban is a class above KF. Dude has a couple natty's just hanging out and has been successful multiple places.

I said it in another thread, but I honestly think that if Kirk coached at a school like Notre Dame, Florida, tOSU, Oklahoma, etc... that he would be year-in, year-out competing with Saban for NCs.

When you look at how he develops talent and plays lights out defensive football, I have no doubt that if he coached at a blue blood school that can bring in 4-5* guys on name brand alone, that he would be right there. He isn't going to get in trouble if he loses a senior tackle because he'll have another 4-5* soph/junior that he's been developing to plug in. That doesn't happen at Iowa where we usually need 1-2 years to develop our guys.

His overly conservative football has cost us games in the past, games we probably had no business in losing, but it's also won us a lot of game over the years as well, games we had no business winning. Take that style of football to a blue blood school where your margin or error isn't razor thin, he has a few championships by now, no doubt in my mind.

I have thought KF might be at that level if he went to a blue blood but I don't know that his style OF coaching would translate.
