Why Not Cheat?

I like the fact that Fran came out of Philly so knows the game and operates with his eyes wide open in the cesspool of college basketball. He has his flaws as a head coach but I will take his integrity any day and Sunday. Not a great recruiter for sure but a whole lot of things go into not having recruiting success at Iowa. Lots of issues in the administration of Iowa athletics but the culture won't permit cheating in a big time program like football or mens basketball IMO.
I disagree that Fran is not a great recruiter.
He gets time and conversation with a lot of the best players. But that doesn't mean they will come and play at Iowa.
We know for a fact the CBB is amount hand outs for the upper level players. Iowa will not do that. Fran will not do that.
It puts most of the fires that Fran gets started out pretty quickly.

Yeah and that's why I pretty much feel that Iowa will continue to slog along in medicority (or at least national irrelevance) with that mindset. I'm not saying that's WRONG per se... Just not a whole lot of fun. The landscape in college sports just is what it is.

"Almost" doesn't count for anything.

I wonder if Lute or Raveling bent the rules at all to get some of their players to come to Iowa. A lot of the players that made up that great 1986-87 team, for instance. If so, I can't say I'm bothered for it. Shady or not, I had fun watching those teams, and I look back on it with a ton of nostalgia.

NCAA basketball is pretty sleazy, it kinda does feel like IOWA is one of the last 'doing it the right way'. I guess that could explain why Florida Atlantic can land better recruits. They have a dude willing to 'get dirty'.

Personally, I'd prefer to reform the system rather than have IOWA join the trash.

That was a 'for instance', not accusing FAU of anything lol

Well the " doesn't count for anything" is up to you.
If you see it as a good thing it is.
#### what anyone else thinks. You'll spend your whole life chasing something that isn't there if tou worry about their view of things.

Valid point here although we can agree to disagree about Fran's ability as a recruiter. I meant in my post that Iowa doesn't do handouts which adds to the factors that make it difficult to recruit at Iowa. Other things like the generally mediocre atmosphere at Carver I think adds to the challenge. I would like to see Fran at least win the battles for the top instate talent. I don't think most kids growing up in the state I was raised in and still love look to game the system in college. Lots of kids particularly guards around who end up in lesser programs than Iowa and I think could play here.

It all turns into a complicated equation but not an arena where Fran excels IMO.
