Why Won't Our Government Let us Buy Inexpensive EVs?

Can you get it registered and tagged without great cost - or at all?

I'm guessing the ones made in Mexico will meet US regulations. But first, they aren't as cheap as the ones made in China and, second, I'm guessing there are lots of fees/taxes/whatever before you could actually use them here.

What if you buy a "used" EV in Mexico. Would that get around those fees and restrictions? I smell a business opportunity.
It's not the cost of the vehicle, it's the infrastructure needed to support the vehicle. Until the US gets serious about charging stations we'll never see a shift to EV's.

For the foreign made models, how do you charge those things, and how much would it cost to convert it to US electrical standards?

I can by a golf cart and drive it around town (for the most part). I'll do that before buying a foreign EV.

Unions don't get a seat at the table for legislation, trade deals, anything really. Only around 10% of American workers are in a union at this point. Not so much of a boogey man anymore.

Do you think the auto manufacturers make more political contributions?

Since 2010, the UAW has spent over $87 million on politics and lobbying.4

What unions?
The one who saw its benefits protected while senior debt holders got the shaft from the Obama administration’s take over of GM.

The same union that made sure when the White House held an expo of American manufactured EVs they didn’t include the company who sold millions of units annually, but didn’t have a deal with said union.

Need more clues?
