Why would he come back?

Apples to oranges with the different sports though.

Allot easier to get drafted in football and you only have a small window there.

Garza isn't likely to play in the nba but he could play 20 years in Europe if he wanted to so one more year there doesn't change much.
Which is why he should come back to Iowa so we can win a national championship........

Agree.

There is no comparison between his situation and Wirfs and Eppy. Those two are virtual locks for 1st round, most likely mid to upper range.

Luka is a maybe 2nd rounder.

The question I have is what would Luka gain, from a draft potential perspective, that would make him a more likely pick if he comes back for another year.

It's a very good point. I don't see much that Luka could realistically add to his game that would improve his draft stock. If Luka stays, it's because he loves his Iowa experience.

I'm a Hawkeye and B1G homer, but I think it is clear that the B1G has the best group of centers of the different leagues. Luka has convincingly won almost every B1G match up, and has hasn't lost any. Hard to evaluate the Purdon't disaster, and I think Stick played him pretty even at Mary Land, but the other match ups have been clearly advantage Luka.

Luka.
I suppose that he is told he wouldn't be drafted. But how would another year improve his game?
How would he improve on a possible National POY season and a B10 lock for POY? If this year doesn't get him NBA attention maybe it isn't meant to be.

His return could set up a memorable campaign for the team but hard to imagine a better one for him.
So if he can't play in the NBA no matter what, don't come back and have a special senior season at Iowa. Solid logic.

Next year we put Bohannon CJ, Joe and ? On the three point arc...dump the ball into Luca and if someone doubles he kicks out for a wide open 3.
Technically your game plan could have applied to this season too. But 2 of your 3 shooting options are currently out of the picture and the same or worse could happen next year. Garza, like any other premier college athlete will have to consider his options and make a tough decision. I didn't criticize Cook for leaving and I wouldn't criticize Luka for leaving. It has to be painfully difficult to decide.

I think there is a greater likelihood Wieskamp leaves after this season than Garza. Joe definitely could benefit from another year of adding strength, improving his game off the bounce and overall consistency, but I think if the feedback from the NBA folks is fairly positive this spring, I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the leap. He'll be 21 this summer (on the older side for his class) & Mak Meyer (his girlfriend) is done with school in May. With all the other pieces returning next year, his points and rebounds probably won't go up much.

I tend to think he stays one more year. The Athletic did have him at #45 in their most recent mock draft

Leaving early without being a guaranteed first round pick is very risky but all it takes is one team to say they'll draft you at a specific and hes gone. Happens all the time

Watching Luka Garza this year has been amazing. The growth he has made- both physically and skillfully has been shocking. I never saw him dominating the B1G the way he has. I was way off on my ceiling expectations for the guy. He is the National Player of the Year in my book.

Is there actual talk that Jordan wouldn’t stay of Garza stays? Seems hard for me to believe he would grad transfer
Just a guy feeling, but I think he comes back. He seems like an old school type who wants to finish what he's started. He has an opportunity to go down as one of the best all-time big men in Big Ten history; how many guys have won poy twice? The list can't be long.

If Jordan comes back, and even if he would transfer, Iowa is going to have a pretty damn good line-up next year with everyone back minus Kreiner and Evelyn while adding much needed athleticism in this recruiting class.

Plus, Frank is a celebrity here. Lol. That guy was shaking hands and taking pics at Old Chicago last Saturday. That guy loves Hawkeye nation.

Weiskamp ain’t going anywhere. And that’s not by his choice.

He’ll be here for 4 years & I doubt he ever plays in the league. He’s just a half of a step too slow for the league.

But I never thought I’d see the day when Cook loggeda minute in the league, so who knows.
I agree with this. Luka attracting double and triple teams and Joe can still get shut down. Very solid college player but weezie needs at least another yr. Can't blame Garza if he chooses to go but don't think he will
