Wieskamp was a stud tonight!

He came out ready to outwork the Illini in the second half, really helped set the tempo for us. Pretty sure he drew two of the fouls in that flurry of Illinois fouling to start the 2nd just by hustling and working for position. Love his rebounding ability as a guard.

He had times of guarding Georgie one on one for brief spells and kept him in check as well.

He's been very good all year. A winning player who helps even if he doesn't score a bunch. He's in a good situation this year as he can score/shoot when open and doesn't have to hunt shots. He was one of the big reasons Iowa beat Michigan, and he will be needed again if Iowa is to win. The way Michigan plays defense, you need a guy who can get to the basket and also make shots if left open.

His rebounding and nose for the ball stood out to me last night. Add some strength and confidence he could be a first team All Big ten plaer as a sophomore. He also has it in him to carry a team for stretches. He is the reason I think Iowa will be better next year, no matter who stays/leaves.

Wieskamp averages 11.1 points per game and Jordan
Bohannon averages 11.6 points each game. So the
freshman from Muscatine, Iowa is doing his fair share
of the heavy lifting on offense. His defense makes it a
point to be in the right place at the right time.

Bottom Line: Wieskamp has 3 more years of basketball
at Iowa. We are fortunate to have him.

He's my favorite player on the team and favorite Hawk going back a ways. He does everything well. He's the kid you wish you had from another team.
My only critique of his freshman year: he needs to develop a tad quicker shot so he can get it off when he becomes the focal point of defenses.

He played sticky defense all night and was appropriately aggressive on offense. It looks like a blowout, and in the end it was, but he carried us through the rough patches.

That’s the thing, even if he’s not scoring he’s doing other things. He doesn’t let his offense dictate his effort or his ability to influence in other ways. That’s why he has the make-up to be the man on this team going forward. When your best player has that approach and mindset, the other players will reflect and emulate that. I can’t say with confidence that has always been the case.

I like JoeW's game..love his rebounding instincts and great hands...but he has a ways to go to match Huerter of Maryland of last year. Not as athletic. .Huerter is having a strong season for Atlanta hawks.

I really thought it was Baer that hit the big shots when we needed them. They both played well.

I agree he’s not quite at Huerter’s level yet but I think he is plenty athletic enough as Huerter and will be there in a few years.

The day will come where he will turn the corner, get in the lane and just shoot over the defender at a high %. I think he could score 25 a game now if he didn't have a team around him that he often defers to. In HS, with no help, he often deferred until he had to take over.
