CJ and Iowa will have to have a better season than last year for him to be 1st team AA. Nothing against him, but there will be more popular picks than him, hopefully CJ proves them wrong. Reading ESPN articles they've said Barrett is the best QB in the B1G and it's not even close in multiple articles.

I hate to say it but no. We will be lucky to have 1 as King won't get thrown to that often. Now 1st Team All Big-10, I think yes we will have multiple. I can think of atleast 4 or 5 off the top of my head. Once again, it all depends on how the season plays out.

Would you care to share those 4 or 5 1st team all big-10 players that play for Iowa ?

Odds aren't good. 1st team AA is bloody hard to get, and is as much about public perception and the team's success as it is individual quality. If you offered me an over/under of 1, I'd take the under.

King-should be solid, but a lot has to go your way to get big INT numbers. Perception would then be that he regressed.

Jewell-I'm a fan of The Outlaw, and he may contend for all-conference. But not beyond that.

CJ-He's shown the skills, but can he be healthy. Even so, he has Barrett in his own conference, then Watson and Mayfield nationally. Plus expect some contenders from blue bloods that aren't proven yet but break out.

Although . . . to clarify, are you talking unanimous AA? Picked by one of the major AA teams, or any AA selection would count?

It'll be tough enough for King to repeat as 1st team as he will not be thrown towards often. CJ is probably top ten in QB's nationally, but will take a Heismanlike year to get first team.

It all depends on team record.
10 or 11 wins Iowa will do well at getting some top honors.
CJ,JJ and King would be my guess too.

how many teams the last 5 years have had multiple first team all americans? The NCAA's list of consensus All Americans shows the following schools with 2+ players in a given season...

2015: Alabama, Stanford, Clemson, Baylor
2014: Oregon, Florida State, Alabama
2013: Alabama, Florida State, Stanford, Texas
2012: Alabama, A&M

So in the past 4 years, it's Alabama every year and then everybody else with 9 total times. It ain't easy.

CJ Beathard
Sean Welsh
Jaleel Johnson
Josey Jewell
Desmond King

That would be the 5 I would guess. George Kittle maybe.

This. I would maybe throw Kittle in there, but will be hard to beat out Butt from Michigan. I would also maybe throw in Daniels at RB, but there again, splitting time with Wadley would be pretty hard to get.

First off to have a chance at multiple AAs, Iowa would need to win 11-12 games in the regular season and win the B1G West again. Then...

CJ would need to have a huge year. 3500+ yards, 25+ TDs, <5 Int, with a bunch of long, beautiful TD passes and some big runs.
Welsh and Johnson might be 2 of the best players on the team but they don't have the media hype to back an AA run. Same could be said for Jewell. I'm sure there is some guy in the SEC that is 6-4, 250 and runs a 4.3 at MLB that the media will drool over.
King has the best chance because everyone knows him. If he can get 5 Int, a bunch of PBUs, and have a couple big returns on special teams, he should be a very good AA candidate.

Slowly but surely somewhere this argument got twisted. The statement that I was referring to was not made by me. That statement was "Now 1st Team All Big-10, I think yes we will have multiple. I can think of at least 4 or 5 off the top of my head". My post was not about 4-5 1st team All-Americans it was about 4-5 1st team All-Big Ten.

I don't know if we will have 4 or 5 1st team B1G but it's not unimaginable. 4 or 5 1st Team All-American is almost impossible from Iowa City.

Even if Daniels wasn't splitting carries with Wadley, what makes you think he's better than Barkley, Clement, Jackson, or even LJ Scott?

What makes anybody think he's better than Wadley?

Daniels has had some good moments, but he's also had plenty of "plodding" moments. Reading from Iowa Coaches comments it appears we haven't moved on from the "give the big guy the ball 30 times and hold on if we have a lead" philosophy they so dearly love. Wadley is far and away Iowa's best running back. If you think he can't hold up due to size that's one thing, but he should always have more carries than Daniels. IF we actually want to win Football Games.

I think Daniels reminds lots of fans of Shonn Greene. I am in that group. They have the same body type and we've seen flashes that Daniels has some of the things that Shonn did, just not consistently. Daniels is a very good RB in the Iowa system. You don't need sprinter speed to be effective (Mark Weisman). However, I do agree with you that Wadley is the more talented runner and is a home run threat every time he touches it. His problem is his weight. a 185-190 pound RB is going to wear down in the B1G. Even when Iowa has small RBs (Russell, Canzeri), they were most effective up around 200 pounds. CJ should have a very effective play action attack this season regardless of who is in the game.
