I didn’t think so, but now I am leaning yes. I believe I will have an answer by tax day.
I don’t believe he would purposely tarnish his legacy. As most of you would probably agree, it’s the most important thing to him. He’s doing this on purpose. Yes, he wants a recession.
Then he’s an idiot.I don’t believe he would purposely tarnish his legacy. As most of you would probably agree, it’s the most important thing to him.
His followers will believe it too.Have posted before, I’m really starting to believe he’s forcing this early to be able to blame it on Biden. Then he can take credit for the rebound.
For sure. They will lie their asses off and MAGA will believe it all.His followers will believe it too.
The trouble is 1) his approach to tariffs has always been simplistic and punitive; 2) he is fundamentally incapable of admitting to a mistake and 3) nothing is ever his fault.I don’t believe he would purposely tarnish his legacy. As most of you would probably agree, it’s the most important thing to him.
What’s worse for point #1, he isn’t even doing correctly. They needed a Renoir but they gave us a little kid scribbling crayons. The trouble is 1) his approach to tariffs has always been simplistic and punitive; 2) he is fundamentally incapable of admitting to a mistake and 3) nothing is ever his fault.
What is sad is that I had to look at it for more than a second to see it was an onion article.
He’s doing this to consolidate power. It’s what wannabe dictators do. They take wealth and power away from the people. Also…he isn’t bringing back jobs, he wants to bring robotic manufacturing back. Very few jobs.I don’t believe he would purposely tarnish his legacy. As most of you would probably agree, it’s the most important thing to him.
He threw gas on a smoldering fire
It's pretty much baked in right now. Estimated first quarter numbers were already very weak at .3% with real GDP growth at -2.8% vs +2.4% in Q4 of last year. Q2 will likely be a disaster. Q3 and Q4 will depend on what the Dear Leader does with the tarriffs during this quarter but it doesn't look promising. A lot of folks are starting to predict negative growth for the year. This has only happened 3 times in the last 35 years (1991, 2008/2009 financial crisis, and 2020 during the pandemic).
I’ve come to the conclusion for the all-in MAGAs, we are just screaming into the wind. They are so brainwashed they need to see their lives collapse before they admit they or Trump was wrong, or that what Trump did was so sloppy it caused all of this.LOLWUT?
He literally STARTED the fire. Economy was the envy of the Western World pre-election, Cletus.
Going to have to see how it plays out.The trouble is 1) his approach to tariffs has always been simplistic and punitive; 2) he is fundamentally incapable of admitting to a mistake and 3) nothing is ever his fault.
This will be Trump's recession. There is absolutely no way this one can be sane-washed away to blame Biden or the Democrats. Trump was bragging "it's already working" per the jobs report Friday.Have posted before, I’m really starting to believe he’s forcing this early to be able to blame it on Biden. Then he can take credit for the rebound.
Economists TOLD YOU how this would play out months ago.Going to have to see how it plays out.
I hope it sticks to him. This will be Trump's recession. There is absolutely no way this one can be sane-washed away to blame Biden or the Democrats. Trump was bragging "it's already working" per the jobs report Friday.
And there will be no quick rebound if Trump maintains the tariffs. The Republicans doubled-down on their tariff policies with Smoot-Hawley in 1930 at the start of the Depression and it just further cratered the economy.
We're too polarized so no way it will happen again, but the Republicans went from having a 56-39 lead in the Senate after the 28 elections to down 59-36 after 1932 and at their lowest fell to 17 seats after the 1936 elections.
The MSM is still trying to sane wash the probable effects of all this (see the below NY Times story that is their top online headling today and that I posted to the NY Times pitchbot thread) but it's going to be catastrophic politically for the Republicans I think either way, whether Trump eventually reverses course or not--it's just too disruptive.
Also the current triumphant photo of Trump at the top of the NY Times page--the Times is going out of it's way to try and help in the destruction of the country:

ALL of them?Economists TOLD YOU how this would play out months ago.
You are now seeing economists TELL YOU that's what is happening before your eyes.
I think it's too late. Trump is President for almost another 4 years. Other countries have to now account for the United States being led by a lunatic. And I don't think they can ever trust us again. We're just not a serious country, we made this nut President twice and right now no one is even attempting seriously to pushback on him. Definitely not the Democrats--and the Republicans? Hardy har har.I hope it sticks to him.
But I do think he could just declare victory and pull the tariffs back and the markets would respond positively. Then Trump team lies about we fixed Biden’s trade weaknesses and saved America and we have billions now coming in from other countries. They’ll just say it and the MAGAs will believe it. Like how DOGE saved “trillions.”
It’s such a joke and people are so blinded
I debated between a laughing and sad emoji. I went with laughing.
