My original post never claimed "100%", Cletus
Vast majority of economists assert Trump's Trade War is utterly nonsensical.
But even the question is phrased in an overly soft manner.
Why not say “The markets lost $6 trillion in value in the last two days. Do you really expect us to believe this was part of your plan? It begs the question, do you even have a plan?”
Trump told us he was going to cause a recession.
The Q4 economic growth was robust as was most of 2024. There is little doubt that Trump's statements and actions have reversed all of that.
So while that's true, a couple of things were in place already...
1) From a market perspective, there hasn't been a meaningful correction since 2022. We were due for one. However, nothing like what we've seen, particularly on the Nasdaq or Russel, or likely will see in the months to come should this continue. That's a reflection of the market foreshadowing the economic impacts of the administrations actions.
2) There are systemic challenges with the deficit and debt that need to be addressed in a systematic manner. IMO, Trump is doing absolutely nothing to fix that. The costs identified by DOGE are relatively minute relative to the grand scheme of things and the money from tariffs will be offset by lower growth and taxes.

And the VAST majority of economists are against tariffs, in general, let alone an all-out trade war and isolationism.

Doesn't change the fact that just about nobody outside of the WH thinks this is a good idea, will have the desired effect, or in an absolute best case scenario, won't pay off for SEVERAL YEARS.
And all this to solve a problem that didn't really need solving.
Which is why a very large part of me wants it all to fail, and fail spectacularly.
Once the U.S. started its bully pulpit crap and sided with Russia, everything went out of the window.
