Noticed this is what was used last night. Still didn't shoot all that well from beyond the arc, particularly Sandfort.

Should Iowa start using those instead? The tournament will feature them again. Thoughts?

IF its what is going to be used in the NCAAs in March, then yes. Absolutely they should switch to that ball.

Hell for that matter, the whole B1G should.

But, then with the Wilson, we would shoot poorly all the time.

Iowa has a contract with Nike so they will use the Nike ball. They do have other brands to use to practice with if a team they are playing uses a different ball.

It's a joke that the NCAA can't standardize on a ball across all teams.

The basketball is pretty important and we have a hodgepodge of balls used depending on the home team.

I'm still convinced that is why we shot so badly in the tournament last year. Genius idea to roll out a new ball at that time.

All about that $$$

It really is something the NCAA should mandate but alas we are all pawns in the big shoe world.

Some play with NIKE, some addidas, some UA, etc...
They are not going to do that. Too much money the schools get from having their own deals.

For football games, teams are allowed to use their own footballs. They will switch them out when possessions switch.

What I did disagree with was the NCAA rolling out a brand new ball just for the tournament last year. Dumb.

I like the Wilson Evolution ball but the EVO is different.

Love the Wilson Evolution. Probably my favorite ball of all time. That EVO, like you said, is so grippy it's unreal. Even the spin off the backboard on a layup or jumper is weird. I like it because I shoot that Tim Duncan shot off the glass and the ball just dies and drops through. But again it takes a while to get used to it.

Yeah, from a shooting perspective, my son loved the TF 1000. He never had a problem with the Evolution, but it would take some getting used to because it came off his hand different. If the EVO is way grippier, I can understand why it would cause issues, because how the ball releases is everything in shooting.

And FTR, yes, I'd assume high level college/pros would be able to adjust quicker than a decent HS shooter. However, there will still be an adjustment period.

Sounds like a heavier ball.

I've always liked the Wilson. Never been a fan of the Nike balls. Sandfort struggled last night not because of the ball but because of the SH D. You had to be able to create your own shot against them. They played right in everyone's face. I think they thought this Iowa team was like past Iowa teams where they lacked guys that could take you off the dribble and score. They weren't ready for Murray and Perkins. Rebraca was a beast down low as well. Sandfort needs to learn how to score off the dribble.

Not heavier, but the grip is almost sticky, so when it hits the rim or the backboard it really spins hard.
I thought the Wilson ball was big in last year’s tournament with IA using Spaulding in Big 10 Tourney and of course Nike @ Home.

I get the practice balls but players only get so much time with them…

I thought the Free Throw % was a big positive vs SH

How much $$ would it cost IA to not use Nike at all

I could be wrong but I thought it was announced before the season and every team had the option to use it, not many did and thus all the hubbub come tourney time.

So, the B1G doesn't have a standard ball?

Crazy ....

The game last night was played with a Wilson ball. Pretty smart of Northwestern to be using a Wilson ball for all of their home games. They will be fully used to it once the NCAA Tournament begins. Under Armour is their uniform supplier.

Iowa, of course, was just 3-24 (13%) from three.

I thought we'd learn from last year after half the field was complaining of the new ball. Then Iowa shoots poor & drops Richmond game.
