I guess this is a good time to note that the longest pass play for Iowa's 127th ranked passing offense through 5 games this year is 33 yards. That's tied with Michigan for worst in the nation this year. In 3 games vs P4 opponents it's 22 yards and an average of 90 yards total. For all the improvement in the running game this year, the passing game looks a whole lot like last year's disaster. In short, it's still completely broken.

When QB1 skips 35 Yard gimme throws to wide open WRs or underthrows and guy who has cooked a DB for a TD or the OL cannot give more than 3 seconds to get the ball out against a real defense the play calling cannot really take many deep shots . The WRs have gotten better separation this Year it is a QB1/OL problem

I have to agree. I don't think the wrs are the top problem here.

3 seconds is an eternity to throw. I think it's a qb problem first, then a qb problem second, and finally a distant third OL protection.

Is Anderson about to give us the Keagan Johnson treatment as well? Kirk’s gotta see WRs are done with this school. Buie could leave as well…. These guys gotta hate this crap.

What a trainwreck of transfers we had offensively after the 2022 to try and save Brian. Of course Phil only gets one guy on the defense and he pulls in a stud like Nick Jackson. Then offensively we have Deacon Hill, Cade McNamara , Kaleb Brown, Seth Anderson. Yikes.

Receivers getting separation and making a move.

Quarterbacks trusting that a receiver will make said move and be open when the ball gets there.

Quarterbacks having the confidence and decisiveness to let it fly sooner.

Quarterbacks having a strong enough arm to get it downfield more than 20-30 yards.

Quarterbacks with the ability to scramble and make something happen when it appears things are broken.

These are the things that have been missing in recent years.

Wetjen - 1 reception through 5 games!?
Buie - 2 receptions??

And I don’t see what there is to look forward to after this year for these guys…All new OL and a new starter at QB that will be followed by more of the same “give him time to learn….” Yada yada…

It’s the Iowa circle of offensive nightmares.

I’d get outta town.
