Women’s Wrestling at Iowa?

They are talking about the Bouzakis family.

Nic is a sr. and top 5 pfp. He reportedly has Iowa in his(unofficial) school list and had mentioned in an interview that he wanted to go to a school that is involved in the advancement of women's wrestling(younger sister is a wrestler).

Also has a younger brother that is pretty good as well. I think is an 8th grader this year, or possibly freshman.
thanks..... I appreciate you taking the time to respond 🙏

For the last several years I’ve watched Kennedy Blades wrestle in Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation tournaments. She is a local athlete, Broadview, Illinois (Chicago). I believe her initial interest was judo. Based upon her recent performance(s), I think Blades may very well be the future face of women’s wrestling.

Some posters may have watched her compete in the Olympic tryouts held in Coralville this past summer, thoughts. I have only seen the videos. At the tryouts I believe she lost to eventual Gold Medalist Tamyra Mensa-Stock. In the process she certainly made me a believer. Seems it’s taken some time for me to “come around”. I believe Blades and her sister developed an interest in wrestling while enrolled in the Martinez wrestling program (Fox Valley/suburban Chicago) and is now a protégé of Israel Martinez. Others may be able to verify.

Her current status, anyone? Were Blades to move to Iowa City and compete with the backing and tutelage of the University of Iowa, it would be a huge boost to women’s’ wrestling in Iowa. Much has been made of the financial reward available to athletes with recently NCAA permitted Name, Image and Likeness regulation. Blades could do very well financially in Iowa.

It's not regulating speech to call a lame post a lame post. Writing a multi-paragraph post about how you don't care about adding a collegiate wrestling program because it happens to be a women's program is lame. If rider wants to denigrate a sport, he should be a big boy and not get fussy when people call him out. He can dish it out, but not take it apparently.
I'm not sure how I didn't take it. I gave it right back to you. I will keep firing back until I get bored with it. I don't feel I was ever disrespectful in my posts, obviously you disagree. I think you are a little sensitive. You don't have to agree.

I think she also got knocked out cold twice in WTT, so hopefully she is/gets healthy.

I've been laid up for a while, so I am coming to this thread a little late. I have a few random thoughts.

First, Wrestling for Life has supported the growth of girls', and by extension, women's wrestling for some time. If we value what wrestling teaches our sons and grandsons, why shouldn't we value it for our daughters and granddaughters? Girls wrestling is the fastest growing high school sport in America. Ditto at the division III college level. Women's wrestling is officially an emerging sport within both the NCAA and the NAIA, which now has enough participating schools to hold a separate national championship.

Our Cesspool friends have been financially supporting girls wrestling at the youth and middle school level since 2016. Your kindness helps fund the Mike Duroe Girls Wrestling Camp Scholarship. SaVannah Cosme, one of our 2018 recipients, just won at who's Number 1 and is the number 11 pfp high school girl in America, as well as being a straight A student. She also represented the US on our World Cadet team. You all contributed to her success.

Whether you like it or not, girls and women's wrestling are freight trains speeding down the tracks. I invite you to join us and hop on board.

BTW - the best women's coach in America is a Hawkeye. Couldn't we lure Terry Steiner away from USAW?

Thanks Jim, and I'm really glad you are back.
It's time for women's wrestling at Iowa.

This is only going to get more popular and great for iowa to get established early. I have seen people complaining about how this would somehow take away from mens sports. I think it is the opposite and because of Title IX this actually allowe for more mens sports. You dont have to agree with title ix but it is a reality. These scholarships for female sports could also free up more scholarships for a mens team in a new sport (hockey? Soccer?). Im not saying it would happen but it is not possible unless a female sport/team is added. I am also excited to watch another dominant hawkeye wrestling team

You and your organization are a treasure to the wrestling community in the state of Iowa. I'm sure you've heard it a lot, but you can't hear it too much.
