Congratulations to her. Well deserved.
Thanks for being a Hawkeye.
Other than in wrestling and obviously Nile Kinnick has Iowa had any other athletes win a national player of the year honor?
Brad banks was the AP player of the year.
what if she had a baby with Zion Williamson. that baby would ball
I believe this means she is good at sport, correct?
Got my tickets, my hotel. Can't wait to be back in Iowa City for more Megan, Tania, Hannah, Kathleen, Mackenzie, and the rest.
Megan, with every breath she takes on the court, is everything I love about sports and why I still play. The passion for the game, for being a teammate, for competition is ever-present. It's her gift to all of us. And she also breathes gratitude that we return the gift whenever we show up.
I'm an ex college player. My first organized basketball was summer workouts with the Bradley women's team starting when I was 9-turning-10 (summer birthday). From then on I recognized the unique love for the game shared by girls and women playing the game—because they work, train, live the game with just as much (often more) commitment, and obviously neither for fame nor riches given neither is even a thing, really, in the women's game. Love of the game is undeniable, unquestionable.
There is almost zero sense of entitlement, media saturation, negative energy surrounding women's basketball. In some ways, it's simply unspoiled. This is both a compliment to women's basketball, but also a critique of how forces of society/money/power/greed have negatively affected men's basketball (mostly just at the highest levels).
But I digress. Megan is the perfect ambassador for Iowa, Iowa women's basketball, and women's basketball at large. But really, she is quite possibly one of the greatest sportspeople I've ever witnessed.
And she's "ours"—I feel so luck to be an Iowa fan.
Thanks Megan!
I’ll take Tania Davis as next Iowa women’s basketball coach, please.Awesome post! There was a moment against Maryland, when I think Kathleen hit a transition bucket down the court with about a minute left to them up by double-digits. All five girls turned away to run down the court with ear-to-ear beaming smiles on their faces. It was one of the most purely unadulterated joyful moments I have ever seen in sports. They knew they had to play D to the end but they could no longer hide the elation. That is a special team.
PS - I hope that, after a long and distinguished pro career, that Megan is brought in to be groomed as Bluder’s successor.
She was only able to out up 45 points against the 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament championship game so she obviously has room for improvement.
I read something a week ago saying there wasn’t a clear cut favorite for women’s POTY...ESPN IIRC. Really? No clear cut favorite? The numbers she put up, the way she plays and the fact that she does it at both ends, and what she means to this team made her an overwhelming favorite IMO and am shocked she didn’t get overlooked. Congrats to MG...really fuggin awesome.
I looked at the stats from the game. Shot less than 100% from the field. What a bum!
