She's a great player, no doubt. Let me know when she has a 40-point triple-double in a final eight-game.
We knew TCU and Iowa would be potentially underrated teams in the preseason. Their success so far isn't too surprising, but it's worth noting. No one was sure how Iowa would look after the Caitlin Clark era. The Hawkeyes also lost three other guards -- Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis -- who played significant roles, and coach Lisa Bluder retired. Now under Jan Jensen, Bluder's longtime assistant, Iowa is 8-0. The Hawkeyes won both their recent games at the Cancun Challenge despite Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen, their leading scorer, being out with a cut to her knee. We will know more over the next two weeks as Iowa faces Tennessee, Iowa State and Michigan State.
UConn has 3 or 4 players that can all create their own shot. Pretty stacked roster. Texas has the Michigan guard from last year (Phelia ?sp) riding bench. With Harmon and Booker they are tough. There are probably eight teams with odds on for the E8. Idk.
We will learn a lot about Iowa in the next 3 games.
Looking at some raw numbers, through 42 games ....
JuJu has had 1124 points, 298 rebounds, and 141 assists.
Caitlin had 1102 points, 274 rebounds, and 299 assists.
JuJu has an interesting skill set insofar that she's a bit more like a big wing ... she can pretty much playing anything from the 2 to the 4. She CAN play the 1 ... but she's still more of a shooting guard.
Anyhow, this flexibility can lead to some interesting match-ups. If she guards a shorter guard ... it's easier pickin's to block shots ... it's not uncommon for her to be matched on a woman who is 5-7. When you have 7 inches on somebody and you have a good wingspan too ... if you have good timing, you're going to block a bunch of shots.
What I find interesting is that she has a great outside game ... but she really is a player who could exploit mismatches in the paint too (although I don't think that this is that much of a part of her game).
JuJu has the potential to be significantly more of an asset on the defensive side of the ball (compared to Caitlin) ... however, on the other hand, Caitlin demonstrated insane range ... AND her ability to see the court is pretty unparalleled.
If Betts stays healthy all year, UCLA is going to put the hurt on a lot of teams. For what it’s worth UCONN has had those kind of players for a decade and how long has it been since they won a national championship?
And to be fair, the girl from Michigan may not be starting, but she’s averaging the second or third most minutes… And depending on how good you think West Virginia is that was a pretty tough game. I just don’t see any dominating teams out there.
like the New Year’s past

I think Iowa can take USC.Sunday Feb 2 Iowa hosts USC.
Sunday Feb 23 Iowa hosts UCLA.
Gonna be fun (I hope )
A remarkable thing about Caitlin was also her health ... how often do players have to miss time due to injury/illness?It will be interesting to see the # of games played & career ppg after this season.
Current Numbers:
Games....Career...........Career
Played.......PPG.............Points
.......42................26.76......................1,124..........JuJu Watkins
.....139...............28.42...................3,951..........Caitlin Clark
This is THE X factor in this debate. Playing 140 games and 4 years of practice and never missing a couple of games.A remarkable thing about Caitlin was also her health ... how often do players have to miss time due to injury/illness?
And then she should transfer to Iowa so we can win a got dam national f***ing championship!!!If Betts stays healthy all year, UCLA is going to put the hurt on a lot of teams.
Actually with Heiden and Hays the next 4 years I think we'll be fine. If we went hunting in the portal we'd have bigger needs at the 3/4 spot...And then she should transfer to Iowa so we can win a got dam national f***ing championship!!!
You got anymore of them Caitlin Clarks by chance?.........Actually with Heiden and Hays the next 4 years I think we'll be fine. If we went hunting in the portal we'd have bigger needs at the 3/4 spot...
There may never be another player in my lifetime that is her equal. From everything I've read about Addie Deal she is the REAL DEAL though. Super talented, driven, and high basketball IQ. Plays for one of the top High school teams in California, and a national power. They play a great schedule, so there is no doubt she'll come in ready to play game one next season as either the point guard/off guard. You got anymore of them Caitlin Clarks by chance?.........
"Generational player?"Announced attendance (total tickets sold & distributed) was just 2,489
Credit: Christie Sides.Pretty damn hard to be a good perimeter defender when you’re playing in the lane more often than not 🤷♂️
I wonder if Press pressed Pete to do all the scoring. If he didn't he certainly allowed for Pete to be a chucker. The problem with that Pistol Pete narrative is regardless of how many games he played, he averaged 38 SHOTS per game to CC22's 20 shots per game, so she still scored more points with WAY less attempts then he did. Thats the most realtive fact.
Well we do know he played on a bad LSU team, so maybe he just didn't have much around him. Also playing for his Dad who never made it big in the pro's, his Dad probably wanted him to showcase his talentsI wonder if Press pressed Pete to do all the scoring. If he didn't he certainly allowed for Pete to be a chucker.
At 38 shots a game you would think Pete was being either asked to or allowed to take a lot of bad shots. So I guess I'm saying maybe there is some room for discussing the number of games played right along side number of attempts made.
Just a thought.

Absolutely.....Hard to understand how a team is blowing the other team out by 50 points, but the coach still keeps the star player in.
Just wants to build her stats! I’m sure Clark did that once in awhile but never AR.😇Hard to understand how a team is blowing the other team out by 50 points, but the coach still keeps the star player in.
Lisa allowed Caitlin to stay in games longer than she probably should have ... part of that was to enable Caitlin to chase history.USC is messing with lady luck trying to get JuJu some stats. She hurt her ankle yesterday halfway through the 4th quarter against a nobody school while the Trojans were up by 54 points. She played 6 more minutes (32 minutes total) than anybody on either team, and the only reason it wasn't more minutes is because she took herself out when she turned her ankle.

Case in point:
11/12 vs UNI ... Iowa wins by 41 and Caitlin was in for 31 minutes
1/16 vs Wisc ... Iowa wins by 46 and Caitlin was in for 33 minutes
... the list goes on
I imagine that sometimes a coach does that to help keep their star happy ... and continue to drum up excitement for the program in the process. After all, folks were paying good money to see the Hawks play ... and they were mostly there to be watching Caitlin make history.
I expect JuJu to still have more points than CC after her sophomore season. But it will be close. And then all she has to do is average 30 points a game both her Junior and Senior seasons while also playing every game and going to the championship round both seasons.
Maybe then Swoopes will let everyone know that her record would then be invalid....If JuJu were to get 39 games in this season, and that is a big if, while averaging 25 ppg, I think she would have around 230-240 point lead after her sophomore season. That would be playing 11 more games than CC through their sophomore seasons. Then if USC went to championship games of the BIG and NCAA tournaments her junior and senior seasons, I think JuJu would only need to average a a little over 26 ppg those two seasons to surpass CC. In the end, I have a feeling whether the scoring record is broken will come down to how many games over 139 JuJu plays in.
So more to the point was CC22 playing in the last 5 minutes of those games? Also pretty B1G difference in putting your foot on the throat of Wisconsin, (a rival we played two time most years) and playing against Elon. whatever in the Hell that is.......Lisa allowed Caitlin to stay in games longer than she probably should have ... part of that was to enable Caitlin to chase history.

Like you said, there's a whole lot of IFs there....If JuJu were to get 39 games in this season, and that is a big if, while averaging 25 ppg, I think she would have around 230-240 point lead after her sophomore season. No doubt, JuJu is a great player but I just don't see her averaging 25+ per game this year once she gets fully into the Big Ten schedule. Barring injury, my prediction is that she will finish her career in the 3,700 point range. Remember, CC put up huge numbers in her last two seasons.
That's entertainment, baby!Lisa also had the responsibility of playing CC additional minutes because 15k showed up to watch her play.
USC isn't facing that issue.
That’s some bad JuJu for JuJu. The basketball gods know when you’re messing with them.USC is messing with lady luck trying to get JuJu some stats. I don’t think Iowa fans get enough credit for mass hysteria that was created around her in college. Yes, her stats warranted massive attention, but Hawkeye fans were a major part of those massive crowds and continue to be at her WNBA games.I don't know if anyone's noticed but the press is trying its best to elevate Bueckers to Caitlin's level of attention.
Ain't going to happen. Her Christian goody persona will never rise to the fiery, yet personable, approachable personality of Clark.
Caitlin was weathered the storm of reverse racism with class and style perfect for the face of the WNBA, much to the chagrin of the slingers of arrows. Her crossover to the sport of golf at the LPGA tourney shows her ability to handle situations not thought of professional basketball players.
She is literally above anything the WNBA has seen before. Bueckers may or may not have talent equal to Calitlin's. But she does not have the overall skills, star power, gregarious personality, or downright magic. Only Micheal Jordan had that combination in my lifetime, and I have to say, Jordan had more psychical (male) skills, but Caitlin leads in the others.
No basketball player I ever heard of sold-out arenas home and away.
And conference tourneys.
And set all time TV viewership records.
On another note, IMO, the WNBA is making a mistake expanding. There is some excellent talent infusing to replace the stale, ancient players that have been loping up and down the courts, boring crowds for years.
Bulk up the league with talent instead of water it down. Expand gradually. Clark ignited a fire. Don't let it flash and burn itself out.
Lolol.. Can't believe were actually going to do a game to game comparison of points per game played for the next THREE years. A LOT is going to happen in the next couple of years. How about we wait until her senior year and take a look then......Through 46 career games Clark and Watkins both had/have 1192 points.. it’s the first time they’ve been even or Clark ahead since game 17.
The next 2 games for Clark she had 18 and 20. Watkins and USC play UConn and Michigan in the next 2.
Of course the difference is Watkins will have played a handful more games by the end of her Soph season.
