Woodburys Dunk

Woody is tough as nails. He has taken a ton of physical punishment over the years when battling in the paint and he has never even winced that I have seen.

Agree with BBHawk..........Woody is really a rough and tumble guy, who shies away from Nothing.........Very durable and physical. Congrats to Woody on this Dunk play and a great senior season, thus far #goHawks

That was so awesome. That and JUs move around 4 Michigan guys towards the end of the game were two great moments....along with a bunch more.

Thanks for bringing that up. I have seen moves like Jarred made there.....on video screens as game players developed the rapid hand movements to defy the game program.

Leftrightleftrightjumphitpowerbutton, get's points for jumping barrel, finding coin, and Donkey Kong pinches a loaf.

But I have never seen it done by a live human being before yesterday.

when it happened...the woody play seemed like it took for ever from start to finish...once he had the ball & started dribbling...I yelled to my buddy sitting next to me...."oh shit..this isn't going to end well".... Im sorry but that's what I said...I'm owning it now. I'm sorry Woody.

It was indeed a great play.

Ungainly, yes, but still one of the coolest plays I've seen. Woody came pretty damn close to stuffing himself on the rim. Glad he didn't.

Great play. I think when he first got the ball his first thought was to pass. But then Wagner decided to pull back to kind of screen his guy and then you just saw the determination build and you knew Woody was going to throw down come hell or high water. More than anything, we will miss his toughness when he is gone.

Who was the 7 footer from SD who had a breakaway like that playing for TD? It basically launched him into a cup of coffee in the NBA.

and he has not given a single excuse from day 1 since he got here ... he knows what he does well (his teammates know what he has meant) and he has improved in areas he needed to...IE free throw shooting.

he never deserved to be trashed and now those posters know...you can affect the game in many many ways ...including dribbling the ball at half court & dunk it :D... now we need for him to take that open 3. ;)

On one hand a great play by Woody, but from an athletic ability perspective, it was pretty weak. Had to watch his dribble all the way, was two steps I front of everyone when he started and had to use all his jumping ability and small hands to do two hand dunk. White or uthoff would have put that down with one hand starting about two feet above the rim. Guess that makes it more special given the skill set is not dunking

Pretty sure it was against Michigan two years ago when he shooshed CHA after dunking. The poor Wolverines probably think he is Connie Hawkins, Jr.

The comment of the night was when the announcer Jon Crispin said, "It was like an offensive lineman scoring a touchdown". Awesome.

that was great...I like Crispin...you can tell he played in the B1G...when he was talking about Gesell's defense on Walton he was really impressed.

I thought Walton was outstanding.

Dude needs to learn he can hang on the rim to not fall into people and of course straighten himself out. I feel like he's landed on his back a few times throughout the years.

I actually feel a bit sorry for him when he does something like that, or misses a one foot shot...just don't get hurt!!!!!

That's the perfect scenario for Woody...a full length run so he can get above the rim. Glad he didn't die on the landing.

That would be great to see him make one of those. I don't recall him ever attempting one. Has that ever happened? Maybe Fran just doesn't want to go there.

Reply. Woody is very popular with his teammates. They LOVE his work ethic and strong support for them. From his limited small hands, three inch vertical jump, and lack of speed, W has developed into a BIG TEN starter for Iowa, and contributor. He IS a team guy, has developed some strength, will DIVE to the floor for a loose ball, and can run the pick and roll damn good. His on - ball screening has improved each year, he "jumps" a high screen much much better than two years ago, and yes, rebounds. I was yelling at my TV trying hard to push him down the court a bit faster, and he made it!!! HE HUSTLES.... just like his "little" buddy Mike G. Loved the play. The push in the small of his back should have been called a foul. Ref was sucking in his whistle. Terrible. W could have been seriously hurt but jumped up and took off for defense. Coach M. is VERY PLEASED with Woody... Fans were HAPPY, laughing, standing, and yes, PROUD of their HAWKEYE!!

I can proudly say that I don't have to eat crow in regards to Woody. My family gives me a hard time because I have always been such a Woody supporter. I'm so happy his stats are coming along in his senior season because for three years he really has been doing all the things necessary to help a team win but that don't show up on the stat sheet. How many offensive screens has he set to facilitate the offense? How many tap outs to guards has he had? How many times has he prevented opposing guards from getting to the rim forcing them to abort their drive? How many hedges does he set on defense allowing our defender to get around the screen? How would our D have been without him communicating? A lot of these things he does actually prevents him from getting some stats and yet he does them willingly and spiritedly. We will really miss him when he graduates.
