I would highly doubt it, but I could be wrong. Just my opinion.Any chance Spencer wrestles in this if Gilman doesn’t get the Bronze? Anyone know if he’s healed enough yet?
my opinion only but I think we don’t see Spencer wrestle freestyle until 2023Any chance Spencer wrestles in this if Gilman doesn’t get the Bronze? Anyone know if he’s healed enough yet?
My guess is Eierman and Lugo. Brooks is done.A few Hawkeyes/HWC are qualified:
Spencer, Eierman, Lugo, Brooks, and Cassioppi.
May only possibly see Eierman and/or Lugo???
Any wrestler that medals at the Olympics automatically gets the spot.
Brooks would have to give 92 a shot and Cassioppi is out if Steveson medals.
I think a lot of different things will impact this decision but 2022 shouldn't be ruled out.my opinion only but I think we don’t see Spencer wrestle freestyle until 2023
If Gilman wrestles and wins a medal this next go-around does he then automatically get the spot again? Wondering when Spencer will get a chance. Thanks2021 World Team Selection:
2) The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Medalist, if competing at the same weight, will receive the automatic selection to the 2021 World Team at that same weight.
a. They must declare their intent to compete at the 2021 World Championships by August 15, 2021.
b. If the Tokyo Olympic Medalist chooses not to participate at the 2021 World Championships, the World Team spot will be determined from the 2021 World Team Trials Tournament.
3) Automatic Berth to World Team Trials: Athletes who wrestled for medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and stay at the same Olympic weight category or choose to move one adjacent weight category (10 weights), will be placed into the semi-finals of that weight.
No. He’d only get a bye to the trials finals. If Gilman wrestles and wins a medal this next go-around does he then automatically get the spot again? Wondering when Spencer will get a chance. Thanks
Pro? you mean UFC or WWE? Sorry if stupid question.... but wasn’t aware of opportunities to go pro in “wrestling”Some chatter about Steveson going pro wrestling after Olympics. Would Cassioppi then give WTT Trials a shot?
No. He’d only get a bye to the trials finals.
The question was about if Gilman medaled at worlds. In that case he’d only get a bye to the finals. To correct the record: Anyone who medaled at the Olympics is guaranteed the spot at the World Championships without having to compete at the Trials (as long as they compete at the same weight and declare their intentions by August 15). If a wrestler was in the Bronze medal match and lost, (doesn't apply to anyone) you would have gotten a bye to the semis of the Trials. If for instance Dake decides he wants to go back up to the non-Olympic weight where he won two World Titles, he would have a bye to the semis. Dake otherwise, has the spot at the Olympic weight by winning the Bronze guaranteed if he wants it.
On another note, if anyone is thinking of going to watch, Lincoln will be a nightmare. The football team has a home game on that saturday, so hotel rooms could be scarce, and travel could be a challenge.
You would have thought USA Wrestling would have looked into that prior to confirming the location.
I think the main reason is the quick turnaround. It's a tough ask for a guy to win a medal and then have to immediately train to make the team in a few weeks instead of take a much needed break to let the body recover. I think it's smart given the circumstances.I’m not sure I’m a fan of that.... kinda mixed emotions I guess..... I would think you have to earn your spot always for s spot on a roster..... yea winning an Olympic medal probably counts as earning a spot 😂 my problem is there could very well be better wrestlers for that spot who didn’t make the roster the year before for various reasons
ie. a wrestler who was injured may give us a better shot at gold than a wrestler who got a bronze at the games 🤔

good point as wellAnd they do not normally have the world championships during an Olympic year, do they?
Why is my trick question detector going off?And they do not normally have the world championships during an Olympic year, do they?

They normally do a "non-olympic weight" world championship. Olympians aren't allowed to compete. Stieber won 61 kg in 2016 at it.And they do not normally have the world championships during an Olympic year, do they?
That's not actually normal. In fact, I think that maybe the only time they held worlds in an olympic year for non-olympic weights. Honestly, I could be wrong, anyone want to look it up?They normally do a "non-olympic weight" world championship. Olympians aren't allowed to compete. Stieber won 61 kg in 2016 at it.
Well yes, but that's because it was the first Olympics with reduced weight classes. That's not actually normal. In fact, I think that maybe the only time they held worlds in an olympic year for non-olympic weights. Honestly, I could be wrong, anyone want to look it up?
Both 65? Or 70 & 65?Lugo and Eierman are both registered.
Who would you take in that war? I think it’s close but going jaydin. Don’t know if either win the weight but wouldn’t be shocked to see one or the other right there in contention. Lugo has improved every time I’ve seen him wrestle since being at Iowa so who knows and jaydin can beat anyone on any given day (kinch and yianni). Interested on what others think especially those more closely tied to the program because eierman in particular is an important piece to the hwc in future years to compete with the powerhouse that NLWC has currently bought (and to their credit, produced some as well). If lugo gets the results then that’s fine too. But we have Spencer, desanto (who will benefit from the shot clock), eierman, bull, Warner and Cass all coming. Not to shaft any of the other guys but that seems to be the future core. Both 65

I also would give the edge to Eierman, although would not be surprised at all if Lugo came away with the win.
Eierman's funk and big move potential are what make me favor him in the match, though.
Lugo does a great job controlling ties and staying in position. But it would only take 1 bad shot by Lugo and he would quickly find himself in Eierman's world.
What makes Lugo an interesting matchup for Eierman is his ability to score without hitting his knees and for the most part he doesn’t take bad shots into other guys offense (Mckee match at last chance being the exception). Lugo has looked very good at 65kg. He was winning handily in the last chance finals, trying to put a guy away and got stepped over and pinned.Lugo has a blueprint for beating an Eierman type in how he wrestled Sasso…although I think Eierman is better than Sasso.
