This is the worst ISU team I can remember in 20 years. They were especially undisciplined which is something I give KF teams credit for. They never beat themselves with dumb penalties.

Overall I'd agree but a few years ago there was certainly an undisciplined team or two.....

I guess you had not seen this movie before. Idiot.

Mac's early teams were worse, IMO. He started out 3-8, 2-9 and 1-10. And many of the losses were much more lopsided than the game last night. A lot of really poor coaching decisions, too, as well as talent problems.

Don't get me wrong; not saying the Cyclones didn't stink up the place last night.

This was a 3-4 win team before the season started. It's likely a 2 win team right now unless their only good player gets hurt. Then it's SJS or bust!

Worst in a while? Sure.

Personally, I thought for the most part they kept fighting until the Daniels romp. They had a real chance to cave much earlier than that, and didn't. I also liked the QB Park. That guy has an arm. But the depth is terrible and the overall talent ain't much better...gonna be a real long season, and there is a serious chance they lose all 12 games this year. Kansas and SJSU are the best and probably only chances by far to snake a win or two in.

Iowa stunk on a stick their first year with Ferentz. The second year, you could see the pieces start to fall into place that led to 2002 later in the season. No reason to think at least for this year and probably next that it would be that much worse than Iowa was.

I think it was foolish for any objective ISU fan to think THIS year could be anything close to resembling a bowl team. I think a possible goal would be for them to be putting up a valid fight in games towards the end of the season like Iowa did Kirk's first year while somehow squeezing in 2 wins.

Hell, to me - after what we've seen, that's a successful 2016.

In summation, I seriously thought ISU played better than I expected them to. I can see something to build upon - they to me looked better than against UNI. Really. It appears the players give a crap so far. Now...if that lasts, and whether it will lead to a palpable turnaround by say year 3...dunno.

But until then...ugh. Better grow a thick(er) skin, Clone fans. It gonna get fugly, but I believe it will get better say near mid season 2017.

I started watching the hawks religiously around the 2000 season and I think this was the most dominant Iowa has played against isu in that time frame. The talent difference coupled with this teams determination, they actually matched isu's intensity for once, just blew the game open. I'm sure isu will improve the next few years but their ceiling is only so high.

Their OL is in shambles right now. It will be a tough year, but I anticipate a much better OL and team next year.

Iowa State's defense want not near as bad as the 42 pts make it seem. CJ put passes where only VB could catch them with great coverage. They were also on the field ALL game.

Iowa State may have the worst OL I've seen EVER though. Even when ISU made a play, an OL was either blatant holding or illegal man down field.

Definitely not one of ISU's better teams. That being said, I think ISU has potential to be okay. OLin play needs to improve. Too many penalties. Not many open holes for the RB. ISU has decent, athletic players. I do think I would give the backup QB a chance to play a half and see how he does. Lanning is okay. Unfortunately for ISU, despite the Big 12 possibly being down a bit this season, outside of (non-conference San Jose State) and (conference-rival) Kansas ... this is will be a team with no more than a couple of wins.

Seems as though Clone fans have rapidly descended from arrogantly hopeful to "who cares? we're a basketball school" in two short weeks. Many have pushed all their chips into the basketball program. If we were to beat them at Carver this season, they would be downright suicidal.

I seriously thought ISU would win 4-5 games this year, now not so much. I am worried they might go 0fer but they still get to play Kansas so there is hope!

I hope they can get some momentum going and get a couple of W's. I think Campbell will get it turned around, but it might be year 3 or 4 before he does. Is ISU willing to wait that long?

And the dish ran away with the spoon.........................................................................................................

You guys obviously missed the ISU teams of the mid 80s.

They have some talent on this team but my god they played undisciplined the other night. They never had a player as good as Lazard back in the day.

So the Davis brothers were not as good?

The day of the Jim's back in the mid 80's were just awful. Those teams were so, so bad. And it had to come into the time when Iowa was really rolling. That game in 85, sitting in the rain, we were just wishing they would throw in the towel

They were in the mid late 90's. The only decent player I recall in the mid to late 80's was Blaise Bryant. A pretty solid RB. I am sure LC can tell you a few more, but non that stick out off the top of my head.

Proud to say I don't know my ISU history.o_O

Not the worst ISU team. 83-86 teams were atrocious and an affront to college football. 51-10, 59-21, 57-3, 43-7 respectively. That's an average score of roughly 52-10. And believe it or not... Those beat downs were worse than the scores indicate...

I doubt it. I think they wouldn't be thrilled, but a non-conference road loss to a decent Big Ten in-state rival wouldn't hurt their chances at a tourney run. They have great BB fans and they play in what is probably the best set-up for a basketball conference (18 conference games against 9 conference opponents, home and home).

They seem to put an incredible amount of importance on beating Iowa.

Sad thing is I believe the 3 interior OL starters were all seniors. One thing if they were FR or SO who have room to improve.

Yeah, except they don't consider us to be a "decent Big Ten in-state rival." We are the dregs of the basketball world with terrible players who couldn't even sit on their bench and an out of control clueless coach. You got to get with the program.
