Worst Ratings Ever For NC Game

That's pretty surprising. Didn't think having it on TBS would make that great of an impact, and especially considering the prestige of the two schools playing, I'd figure it would draw a lot of people.

The viewers' loss anyways, it was a heckuva game. Also, did they do the Bleacher Report Team Stream thing again on TNT and TruTV? That could split up a lot of viewers.

I just watched the last 5 minutes. (I monitored the score on my device.) But I will say this, WHAT A FINISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just incredible.

Do they count people streaming legally or otherwise in their numbers?

I have a feeling the downward ratings trend is going to continue and we are on the last hurrah of the mega huge TV deals that are the basis of revenue generation for NCAA sports.

Not sure, but it was a 10 million drop from last years game. There's more at work there than just streaming.

Agree that it may be the BEST NCAA final game ever. And.....the other most memorable might have been Nova upset of Gtwon in 1985..........although the Jimmy V game was pretty incredible too.

Too many elites. Terrible officiating. Catering to the power conferences and only certain teams within. Raging Hockey games instead of basketball. Television timeouts. Announcers during the season that act like Rush Limbaugh or Michael Moore.

I'm sure I can think of more but if the powers that be would work on this list first...or not. If not, eventually the sports-holics will leave and the games will get good again.

Has it been clarified that they counted all three channels? I also don't know how they count the people who streamed. I would say the NCAA made a hell of a lot money anyway. 70,000 saw it in person.

May have something to do with opening night for most mlb teams especially since the Cubs game was on at the same time. Also, why have it on tbs, tnt and trutv? Nova got screwed in that with their team stream on trutv. It should be cbs for national broadcast, then tbs and tnt for team streams.

It was on TBS last year, too.

"Monday’s 77-74 victory by Villanova over North Carolina averaged a 12.0 overnight household rating on TBS, TNT and truTV — down about 30% from an especially high-rated game a year ago on CBS (17.1 for Duke-Wisconsin)"

I will accept my apology in the form of a limerick or haiku. Your choice.

TBS was a mistake but even just comparing CBS early round games to previous years showed a slide in ratings.

I have no idea what face value is. On secondary websites mid afternoon yesterday I saw prices at 18. I paid 35. there were guys at the light rail stop selling tickets. A guy at work paid 75 each for club seats. Of course you have to live here or be here to take advantage of these prices

Good luck with that. Typically when Legend is wrong he tends to disappear.

Obviously having it on TBS was a huge error in judgement by CBS.

The coverage was horrendous. Not only the analysts, Barkley et al, horrible, but not seeing a lot of games just sucked. I do not get TBS, so not only that, but no HD on top of it. The streaming was terrible. So bad I had to leave the house to watch the game.

Besides the worst coverage in my living memory, the games were not that great. Too many blowouts and easy wins. Villanova was a prime example. Poor Oklahoma. They made Iowa look good...

But the bad games, build zero anticipation. That does not get one excited for future games at all. I cannot remember a worse Sweet 16. What was there, one good game with ND who most the country despises. Blech. Terrible Sweet 16, and you lose your viewers for the next rounds.

That and you have to get better analysts. Holy crap were they bad. They work the NBA. Which maybe another reason I do not watch that league anymore. I am guessing major changes next year will be demanded by the powers that be.

The games start too late. I couldn't stay up to watch the second half of either they College Basketball or College Football national championship games. I'm sure I'm not the only one. They need to start these games at 7 p.m. instead of 8:20.

Or just stop playing on Monday night. And keep it to the weekend.

Put the game on CBS at 7 PM and all would be well... too bad for the people that didn't watch as it was one of the best national championships you'll ever see in any sport.

It was on TBS last year, too.

Quote from an article:

Last year’s Final Four – with undefeated Kentucky, a well-known Wisconsin team that was in the Final Four the year prior, and Duke, arguably the most popular brand in college basketball – delivered big ratings on TBS. The Duke-Wisconsin thriller in the Championship, which was on CBS, was watched by 28.3 million viewers and grabbed a 17.1 rating, the most for a title game in 18 years. It topped Game 7 of the 2014 World Series and even the 2016 College Football National Championship game between Alabama and Clemson.

I didn't watch because it wasn't on CBS. I streamed the Cubs game and wanted to flip back and forth.
Put me on the list of people watching the cubs kick some butt! :)

If it were on cbs, I would have had it on tv while streaming the cubs game....but oh well.

I was actually at opening night, Angels vs. Cubs. I was catching the scores randomly between innings.....then heard random outbursts from a group of fans streaming the game in the stands when the teams' respective final shots went in.

The Angels Stadium PA waited until between innings to show the last 30 secs or so on the jumbotrons.

And yeah, Angels got their butt kicked. Do the Cubs have an easy out in their lineup this season? I heard Maddon started Szczur the following night solely because he was a 'Nova alumnus.

After all of those 1st and 2nd day upsets, yet the Sweet 16 ended up with 15 teams (plus Gonzaga) from the power conferences, I started to tune out.
The one thing better about Nova-UNC was not seeing Duke players flop.

Many people don't have cable/satellite. Since Monday Night Football went to ESPN it hasn't cracked the top 30, where Sunday night and Thursday night football on a network is always top 5
