Would you fire Pagano for that one play?

It would be tempting. Granted, he is likely on the way out, but that play would seal the deal for me.

Thats the worst coaching thing in football I have ever seen. I could not believe the ball was actually snapped.

I'm an Indy fan. Not mid season because Colts still have inside track for the playoffs. Mid-season firings don't usually help a team long term. So I have no desire to fire Pagano mid season and throw away the playoffs.

But let me say that in the whole Grigson vs. Pagano debate I WAS more on Pagano's side then Grigson's. I can't say for certain I'm entirely behind Grigson but unless we win a SB I want to have a new head coach in Indy in 2016.

I bet with hindsight being 20/20 the Colts wished they would have never let Bruce Arians walk. Of course they could have never fired Pagano while he was battling cancer, but I bet they wish they would have just hired Bruce.

If I'm the snapper, I would have never hiked the ball with 4 guys standing right in front of me and only the QB behind me. The deception obviously caught none of the Pat players or coaches off guard. If you don't want to burn a TO, then just let the clock run out and take a 5 yard penalty.

Not trying to kick a guy while he's down, but, it seems likely to me that Ariens was the real leader & genius that held that team together a few years ago.

I see Pagano took the rap for not coaching it well enough, but inside his message it was clear that it shouldn't have been snapped. Sure, he is the coach, he gets the blame for this type of stuff, but it wasn't really his fault.

As somebody pointed out in another thread, was it KF's fault that Parker threw that kickoff back in play like a maroon?

In his defense JR....Pagano also thought the snap was bad. There was NEVER supposed to be a snap in that situation. The center messed up. He didn't read the defense correctly. You could see Pagano lighting into him as he came off the field. Reading his lips (Pagano's) you could see he was asking why the ball was snapped.

Thats obvious...they hired the wrong guy...

I'm still trying to figure out what they were trying to accomplish? What was so deceiving about it? Did they think all the Patriots were going to follow all the lineman and forget to line up over the ball? Did that work somehow in practice? Which coach came up with this idea and did the entire staff get behind it? So may questions....I'm fairly certain my 8 year old daughter could design a defense to stop that. So awful, yet so comedic.

I'm not sold. See the problem is that the players also lined up in an illegal formation. So there is no way they are getting a first down out of it, even if they "fool" the Pats.

Griff Whalen (The WR who was lined up to snap the ball) was clearly not the only Colt on the field that didn't know what they where doing. The other players lined up incorrectly. That screams coaching failure to me.

It almost looked like they threw this together last minute and several players if not the whole team went out on the field not completely sure what the plan was.

The nearest we can tell the idea was to confuse them into committing a penalty of some sort. Either a substitution penalty or a offsides or something like that. The problem was they lined up in an illegal formation anyways. So the only penalty that they could get what they wanted out of would be an encroachment penalty. (Since all other penalties require snapping the ball during an illegal formation.)

Thing is to me, unclear objectives with multiple players not understanding what they are doing. It screams coaching blunder to me.

Well, certainly the COACHING problem was sending the team out to run that play, which they were clearly not prepared for.

Still, the actual, utter failure of the play should be on the snapper/ee.

Also, why would they jump/encroach on ONE LINEMAN? Not like they wanted/needed a head start.

Oh trust me I am not defending the play or the idea behind it. It was stupid on the face.

I don't want to drop Pagano now because the Colts still have the inside track to the playoffs thanks to playing in the inept AFC South. But I'm excited about having the pick of the litter in terms of coaches and seeing who's gonna coach this team next year.

**Crossing my fingers for a Harbaugh brother** (I know it's unlikely but a guy can hope right?)

Yep playing in a division with 3 inept teams has it's benefits. 6 free wins a year.

Colts have the NFL record for the longest division winning streak. Havn't lost a division game since 2012. Texans couldn't even get a win at home on a short week starting the 40 year old Matt Hasselbeck who was sick at the time and periodically receiving fluids via IV's.

Despite Pagano and Luck getting injured the Colts will most likely be in the playoffs this year.

The Patriots have won the AFC East every year since 09. This century they have won every year but '00, '02, and '08.

True but I'm talking longest streak of individual games won against division opponents without a defeat or a tie.

Colts have won every single game, home or away against a division opponent since the end of 2012.

Not the same thing as longest streak of division championships.

I'd fire Pagano because he's .500 outside of the division, and he looks like he straight up doesn't care anymore. I wouldn't fire him for that play, but his reaction to that play. He didn't care.

To be fair the way the Colts have treated him up until that point might give him good reason not to care. Their actions have pretty much told him that the only way he keeps his job is by winning a SB.

I think he's sort of emotionally checked out already.

Not defending him or his coaching in any way, as I said I want a new coach next year but I can get why he's emotionally checked out.

appologies...misread the other post.

read this article. He should be fired immediately. This news makes that the #1 worst call in sports history

I agree it was terrible and as an Indy fan I'm pissed that our coach is that stupid *potentially* costing us a win in a rivalry that has been so one sided the other way. However I don't want to fire immediately because that screws up a team that's currently leading it's division and on track for the playoffs. And we don't have Bruce Arians on the sidelines anymore to cover for him.

Play it out, go to the playoffs and see what happens and then if he doesn't do something amazing in the playoffs (A SB berth at least) then let him go.
