Yep it was a Coup

The military isn't required for it to be a "coup", altho the military usually determines a successful coup vs. a failed coup attempt (Jan 6th).

Your definition is just wrong.
So they figured if they sat in the chairs everybody would just listen and accept it?

ok.

Those that think it was a legit coup will not have their minds changed. I get that.

A coup via rednecks? Maybe in their minds.

A coup needs an organized support of a large percent of the military. “Support” in a coup means action. There was none.

keep repeating it a few hundred more times and some people will just assume you are correct.

if you want to define coup as a few dumbshits storming the capital go ahead. Just link the details of their plan of military support.

I am sure a few crazies that participated thought it was a coup. I am sure a few on the left want to promote it as a coup for political gain.
Jeebus...it's like you think Trump and his cronies weren't attempting this. Unreal.

We weren't as much as we thought before either but yes this is full steam ahead by the GOP not giving 2 ****s about anything than power out in the open.
Their base, for whatever reason, is completely fine with Republican authoritarian rule for the next 50 years, with no chance for power for the democrats. Minority rule. Democracy is slipping away very quickly. It's happening right in front of our faces. A third of the country either doesn't care or is too stupid to realize. ICHerky will be on here with a laughing emoji soon...because he's one of them.

He wants to be ruled.

40 years of Reagan/Libertarian Bullshit and the cuffs off alt right toxic trash media being sold as normal/mainstream after Fairness Doctrine rescinded.

It almost sounds like you're kinda pissed that it wasn't a SUCCESSFUL coup attempt. "It was just a failed attempt! No big deal! Stop making a mountain out of a molehill."

"The guy with the knife didn't succeed in murdering me. He just cut my hand off and stabbed me a few times. It's not like he actually killed me!"

Type louder. Helps people believe.

if one person stormed capital and said this is a coup would it be? What number do you need? Since there was zero military involvement and no group in congress that seized the moment and said “we are on control” or the Supreme Court you must base it on a number in your head. Toss it out there.
The fact that people died doesn't equate to an attempted coup to you?

They weren't tourists like some congressional critters want to believe.

It’s thread like this one that make me harken back to the innocent days after the election when I was told that us Libs needed to settle down, and Trump would soon be gone. Guardrails were in place, and nothing was actually happening that would keep him in power.
You guys sure nailed that. The only thing that stopped Trump was his continual half assing of everything, and the fact he hires only the cheapest, worst underlings. If he’d hired better conspirators he’d be ruling with a boot to the back of the neck of democracy.

The bigger the conspiracy the harder it is to keep under wraps. I'm incredibly skeptical anything with any meaningful degree of coordination between Trump and the idiots could've been kept under wraps this long with this many eyes on the scenario.
But it's NOT under wraps. Everyone but right wing ostriches knows about it.

It's just hard to prove.

What exactly are you talking about? Trump and his goons certainly looked at different undemocratic means in trying to maintain power. But I don't see a connection back between them and the nuts from the 1/6 event from the perspective of coordination. If there was one, I really expect it would've emerged by now.

A coup can occur without military support.

Let's stop calling them crazies, it belittles the severity of their actions and it belittles our democracy.

Insurrectionist is the proper term.

Trump clearly was desperate and surrounded himself with goons that would endulge his idiotic fantasies.

But there hasn't been any good link between Trump and the idiot rioters. If they were working together in any planned meaningful way we'd know about it by now.

To suggest otherwise I'd bordering on conspiracy theory claptrap.
Trump's desperation is the right wing's desperation. It's impossible to distance yourselves from his goons (Republicans/white supremacists) and idiotic fantasies (conspiracy theories) because his supporters still believe them.
