You’re nine and your mom or dad come home and tell you that you’re going out to dinner at _______

We used to throw off the sausage and tomato and eat all the chips off the top.

The chips were always soggy and disgusting. Taco pizza is fuggin terrible. It’s soggy chips, too much lettuce, and whatever the hell taco sauce is (a weird Americanization of Mexican food).

Oh yeah, I forgot about the lettuce. That stuff was totally gross as left overs. Basically turned into snot when re-heated. Fresh not bad though. Not too long ago I found myself in IC and stumbled into taco pizza at Falbos. Apparently a Tuesday thing there.

Falbos went brokesvile in N. Liberty. I hear it's a hit with downtown stoners. Anyone try Gumby's Pizza lately?

Indeed. I smoked weed for the first time in a Falbos freezer back in the day. Inmates ran the asylum there. Still think I have the Falbos pizza recipe somewhere.

Big Boy in Cedar Rapids...when I was young we didn't have a lot of money but every 2 weeks (dad's payday) we went out to eat. Burgers were great and they left the metal cylinder your shake was made of at the table so you could get every last drop. I guess they could have just gotten bigger cups, but I was 8 and didn't think it all the way through.

I occasionally ate at the town & country location in CR in the late 80s/early 90s and I'd agree.

I opened that store. I worked at the 6th St SW store beginning in 1980 and a bunch of us helped them get the doors open and train their crew those first couple weeks. Believe it opened in I think 1981 springtime...some time around then. And yes, Godfathers late 1970's into the 1980's was outstanding.

I remember the few chain pizza stores with some size to them - the Happy Joe's on Council Street, the two Godfathers...crazy busy every Friday and Saturday night. Mainly Wash, Kennedy, Linn Mar and Marion kids. The 6th St Godfathers would have Jefferson and Prairie kids galore.

Black Angus in Key West. There was a period when it was a Friday night tradition. My parents each had 1 whiskey sour which was about the only time I saw them drink. A very much more rare occurrence and probably should be my answer to OP is "The Coral Grill", about a 2 hour drive up from Key West. It was a buffet restaurant that included a ton of seafood options, carving station, etc.

Probably the most excited was getting to go to a Epcot. I lived close enough (about an hour away) and we had an annual or four seasons pass, so my parents would frequently take us over just for food at the Moroccan, Norwegian, Mexican, French, Canadian or Living Seas restaurant. It was essentially a surprise within a surprise as I would never know where we were going to eat until we were there and walking to the final destination.

Close seconds would be ShowBiz Pizza, Chuck E Cheese Pizza, and Red Lobster.

Ground Round, and I'm getting ice cream in a baseball helmet for dessert. It gets no better than that.

I don’t think my parents ever took me out to eat when I was a kid. I do remember one time a buddy’s mom took us to Pizza Hut and it was pretty awesome. When I was a preteen my dad would take us out to fast food places during his weekend post divorce, but that meant that he didn’t have time to hangout afterwards and I would have to go back to my moms. I still get a depressed feeling driving by the Hardees in Eldridge.

Leftover taco pizza is decent if eaten cold, or slightly cooler than room temp.

Loved the onion rings and obviously the root beer.
trelore's (Spelling?)in fort dodge. they always had a huge rack of ribs spinning in encased glass in the middle of the tables. being so young I can't say if the ribs were that good but to a small town 9 year old they were heaven.

There weren't a lot of options in my hometown. And we never went out on the spur of the moment. If it ever happened, it was probably Diamond's Pizza. But Diamond's Pizza wasn't something to get super excited about.
