Not altruistic, rather other factors besides money ultimately guided their decision. That seems to be hard for some here to fathom.

If 'major' is in terms of current population then going by Wikipedia, the top four would be:
- Christian - 31.7%
- Islam - 25%
- Hinduism - 14.7%
- Buddhism - 6.6%
Sikhs and Jews follow.
Over 83% practice some religion.
Of the total population, no religion represents more than one third, leaving a super majority to the rest.
Gotta love Zoroastrianism. It provided Nietzsche the name Zarathustra.
Of course, we can break down the Abrahamic tradition into three components. Judaism, Christianity and Islamic, with Judaism being the basis for the other two.
