I can’t remember his name right now, but we had a REALLY tall kid in the Gable era.
Greg Stiltner. Fitting name for a tall guy.

Iowa football has won last 5 meetings.Wrestling might be the only sport you could say over the last five years that iowa is better than iowa state tho lol. They def got iowa in fb and basketball (not this year tho). Not sure about baseball.
Brother: Are you still up in the DC area or were you heading that way a couple years back when we both seemed to be in DC a few days apart?Nope
I gotta tell you, I'm no doctor, but Alex looked a hell of a lot better than Spencer Lee at the end of that match with Griffith. So unless he injured himself after the match, I'm not sure why he didn't strap on the headgear and at least give it a try against Amine. I'm sure his ribs hurt really bad, but I didn't see him spitting up blood or falling over half dead...and these are the NCAA championships and we are in a dogfight for our first team title in a decade...
If he would have beaten Griffith and his next match would be for the individual title I wonder if he would have given it a try...
Hate that he's injured and hope he's OK! Also, hope he doesn't wake up Sunday morning regretting that he didn't at least give it a try...
iowa state dropped baseball years ago, didn't they?Wrestling might be the only sport you could say over the last five years that iowa is better than iowa state tho lol. They def got iowa in fb and basketball (not this year tho). Not sure about baseball.
In 2001iowa state dropped baseball years ago, didn't they?
Yep, still here. Lived here nearly 5 years, longer than anyplace since I graduated high school and left Iowa. Seems strange to not move every couple of years.Brother: Are you still up in the DC area or were you heading that way a couple years back when we both seemed to be in DC a few days apart?
If it really is a broken rib, he could puncture a lung wrestling with it. Probably out of his hands at that point.I trust Jesse Donnenwerth. If he says you don't wrestle, then you don't wrestle, even with a title on the line (and this year we are so far ahead of the pack, that thankfully it wasn't).
This is one the most impressively incorrect statements I have ever read.Wrestling might be the only sport you could say over the last five years that iowa is better than iowa state tho lol. They def got iowa in fb and basketball (not this year tho). Not sure about baseball.
6’2” is one of the tallest? Maybe this is why I never got into wrestling when I was a kid, I was 6’4” by 8th grade (only grew an inch after that) and about 180. I see these guys wrestling at 125 and that just boggles my mind that A) that’s about what I weighed in 5th grade and B) a college man could weigh only 125.Chiaparelli maybe 6'2. ??
Is that the scoop? Did they verify it was a broken rib? If so I withdraw my comments. If not...If it really is a broken rib, he could puncture a lung wrestling with it. Probably out of his hands at that point.
Warner lost to woodley the last time out - maybe even the last 2 times out....1. Kerkvliet will most likely get bonus as well. Young favored, and Beard I'd call a tossup. Cass can get bonus against Hilger, and will probably win by decision again against Schultz, so 3+ points for him. Warner SHOULD beat Woodley, but Woodley is having a great tournament. Amine will be another tossup. Oh yeah. ADS can bonus in both matches to get 3rd.
Spencer Lee...one of the best scramblers in the world. Kemmerer one of the best scramblers in college wrestling. AD & Young actually scramble pretty well. Jayden elite scrambling. Warner is an above average scrambler. You might be using it to generally or you might be emotional. 🤷♂️I'm so sick of pretending this program doesn't have a scrambling problem. It's been 10 years. Figure it out.

you won’t have to if we have it wrapped up. Although that could be tough if they start at 133 for the finals
Are you serious? Alex has been a major team leader for the last 4 years...If he isn't wrestling he is seriously injured no doubt...This is what I discovered looking at Alex's 3 NCAA appearances. Please tell me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so...
For what it's worth (absolutely nothing), if one looks at Alex's stats during his 3 NCAA tourney appearances, the results indicate that once Alex loses a match, either his motivation, wrestling skills, or desire to win fall off significantly. In 2018 NCAAs, he lost a tight match to IMAR, who was a total badass. After that loss Alex dusted himself off, got pinned by McFadden, and then lost by 13 to Wick. In 2019 NCAAs he lost to Lewis but then battled back to finish 7th (not 3rd, 4th or 5th). 7th? He was ranked number one in the country and seeded number one for the tourney. And then this year he lost a tough match to Griffith and then called it a day, MFFing before the match even started? I wonder if he would have MFF'd had he won the Griffith match and be wrestling for the championship tomorrow??
In thinking of the team, I hate this MFF, especially given the way Lee's been pushing through the pain every fricking match. We're in a fight for our first title in a decade and it could very well come down to a couple points that Alex didn't even make an attempt to get. At the very least, put on your fricking headgear and give it a try...
Forgive me if I'm offending anyone; it's not intentional. I just don't understand at least giving it a try against Amine. I saw the Griffith match; he appeared disappointed but functional following that match; did something happen afterwards?
It's more of an offensive scrambling problem. Desanto, Murin, Bull, Brands, and Warner all struggle to finish on the mat in scramble positions. Even Spencer has been leaving points out there this weekend and is way too comfortable letting people crank on his knees than I like. Defensive scrambling has improved a little in the last 10 years.Spencer Lee...one of the best scramblers in the world. Kemmerer one of the best scramblers in college wrestling. AD & Young actually scramble pretty well. Jayden elite scrambling. Warner is an above average scrambler. You might be using it to generally or you might be emotional. 🤷♂️
This. I am not saying he isn’t hurt. He seems like a total warrior. I am only saying he seems to consistently wrestle way below his seed. And actually was wondering how many top seeds (1 or 2) for 3 years straight have finished 7, 8 or worse. 1 year an upset. 2nd year bad breaks. But again? Objectively seems he has a mental block at the NCAA’s. Wish I were wrong but results are pretty clear. This is what I discovered looking at Alex's 3 NCAA appearances. Please tell me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so...

Yeah. Our problem this tournament has NOT been lack of scrambling ability.Spencer Lee...one of the best scramblers in the world. Kemmerer one of the best scramblers in college wrestling. I think he is hurt. No question. But let me ask you this. If he gets that TD in the quarters does he MFF at the semi’s tonight? Think about that. Are you serious? Alex has been a major team leader for the last 4 years...If he isn't wrestling he is seriously injured no doubt...
Quick recap of what went down on HR this week...
"Iowa has chance for 10AAs"
"Iowa could threaten the scoring record"
"Iowa could have 5-6 champs"
"It'll be over friday morning"
"It'll be over friday night"
"It'll be over Saturday morning"
"It'll be over After Spencer wins Saturday night"
You’re overstating his collapses. It has not been three years in a row that he’s drastically underperformed his seed. This year and 2019, not three years as you’re arguing. If he did break his ribs this year, he gets a pass for not coming back and wrestling to 3rd this year. If Griffith wins tomorrow, he will have lost to the eventual national champion both years. After losing to Lewis in 2019 he ran into a red hot Chance Marsteller who finished in 3rd place. So his losses in 2019 were to the champion and 3rd placer. Just how the bracket shaped up. In 2018, he was the #5 seed making the semis and finished in 6th place, one spot lower than he was seeded. Hopefully he heals up and makes a championship run next year.This. I am not saying he isn’t hurt. He seems like a total warrior. I am only saying he seems to consistently wrestle way below his seed. How did that recruiting of Howard and dumping Teske work out?
Teske looking way better this year....I don't think that question will be answered for a few years. Odd year and he started late coming off shoulder surgery. Personally, he did better than I expected. He has a higher ceiling than Teske, just not there yet.
About the same since Teske didn’t AA eitherHow did that recruiting of Howard and dumping Teske work out?
This is a really bad gut punch emotional take. We don't even know the severity of the injury or when it occurred during the Griffith match. This is what I discovered looking at Alex's 3 NCAA appearances. Please tell me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so...

I knew I would get an earful and I'm ok with it. I'm just putting out what's in front of me; I don't have the secret information others have so I can only look at what I have and speculate at what I don't have. And I didn't say he hasn't been a major team leader for the last four years; that goes without saying. Are you serious? I remember when Iowa was done when the Bull lost in the quarterfinals. It's a miracle they pulled it out. There were some quality freakouts on here last night.
That's nuclear grade stupidity right there. Volleyball or rowing maybe, but no men's sports.Wrestling might be the only sport you could say over the last five years that iowa is better than iowa state tho lol. They def got iowa in fb and basketball (not this year tho). Not sure about baseball.
i missed most of them, don't need pbp when i have matches on computer. i click through after but don't need to see the football and basketball crowd crying,so mostly just click the numbers off to stay caught up.There were some quality freakouts on here last night.

Bull is a tough SOB and if it was up to him he'd wrestle until he dies. So I'm not sure where you're coming off blaming him for this. It was clearly a coaching/ trainer's decision.
And more than likely his adrenaline was sky high he didn't feel the impact until after the whistle. Mix the loss of adrenaline with inflammation and risk of further injury, why go?
He got us points and helped us get here. Now it's time for the 7 remaining guys to pick him up and take this team home.
So cut this shit out.
I said similar things. AM is an absolute stud. Love him. I simply said he has underperformed at nationals and I got crap. I also asked if he had won in OT would he have MFF. If that was not a fair statement on his results or a fair question I apologize. I know he was hurt. So maybe questioning MFF was wrong. But stand by not performing to his best at the tourney. Simply because we all love him doesn’t make him above question. And I guarantee he would agree his tourney results are not good based on his seed amd talent.I knew I would get shit...and probably deserved it. I was just pissed that he didn't give it a go, especially after watching Lee walk out there like a broken man every single match. With the team race not even close to being settled I thought he would give it a go. My apologies for being a dick. And I wasn't even drinking.

You could make an argument IMO that he was the Outstanding Wrestler for Iowa while finishing 3rd. He wrestled as hard as he could. Great Tournament!ADS fought like a champion. Proud as hell of that kid.

Not. Gonna. Happen. You will be fine this year, but I'm far more optimistic about next year than I was a week ago. Enjoy the championship this year, we're coming for you next year...
We won this tournament when the season started and it was never in doubt as long as our guys could show up and toe the line in St. Louis. They did and the rest is history. We have good news. With the two from penn st. getting beat on the backside, that puts their limit on 124.5
More realistically, they only have their four finalists. Let's pretend all four win it tomorrow night, including beating JE at 141 and MK at 174. That would give them 110.5.....
It still wouldn't be enough to beat Iowa, considering Iowa has three guys on the backside tomorrow morning, including Cass and ADS who are in good positions to do some damage on the backside. Iowa sitting at 109 going into tomorrow.
I feel better.
