How can Minny, Wisky and 4-8 Kentucky have so much better transfer portal game than us!?!?

I don't believe for a second we have adequate NIL. This is on the administration for not nurturing the relationships needed to support NIL. How many multi-millionaire ex-players are supporting our NIL?? If not, why the hell not!!! Another failure by our administration.

All I know from watching better teams in bowls, we need to get bigger on both lines!!! Our defensive line didn't get much penetration all year and our OL had more issues. We have to improve our lines.

I’ve got to stay off Twitter…

I should know better. I was on for about three months during the WNBA season and then got off, but I was researching something in particular, and there are still ass clowns on there, that call themselves unbiased and impartial that say things like JuJu and Hannah Hidalgo Are way better than CC and it’s not close .

What in the Holy Hell! There’s a cat who considers himself a smart basketball fan trying to suggest she doesn’t dribble & drive as well as either.

Listen Hanna Hidalgo is a phenom, but she’s a 5-6 guard. And JuJu is electric, but she’s not going to set the world on fire shooting 3s & dropping dimes

The good & bad 12 games in…

We have lost 2 games vs undefeated teams on the road, that we could’ve won and I propose this Michigan State game we should’ve won. Both of these teams are likely top 15 teams next week. But I also doubt anyone had us 9-2 right now.

Lots of angry “reflexive” reactions in the game thread and I too was pissed. But there is lots of good as well.

Things I’ve been critical of…I do wish we could get Ava more minutes. She has more upside….

With that said here is why I’m sure she doesn’t yet. Neither one of those girls right now are getting the ball deep at 8 foot & wheeling very often for some reason and that includes AOG.,…why?!

Ava in particular had the ball within 5 foot with her shooting, hand free and rather than going up, she passed it for a turnover?! there’s clearly a confidence/trust issue by her and maybe the coaching staff right now?

Our press break, really isn’t that bad, but our propensity to dribble into half court traps by Sr guards is quite odd. Can’t be coached that way…. they are poor decisions, possibly because they’ve been sped up in a full court game and are in their heads. Lucy & KF had 12 TOs between them, that’s not a coaching issue.

We go through spurts where we can’t make shots, and there’s not a lot you can do except work through it. This was an expressly unique game in that we rely on Lucy to get in the lane and make five jumpers and she did not do that today.

Our out of bounds plays were poor today, and generally speaking they they’ve been decent. We do that wheel with Olson, McCabe, Affolter, etc., but that was not effective today and getting anything under the basket was nonexistent. It feels to me like we went away from Hannah when she got the third foul and we shouldn’t have.

Hanna‘s ability to break the press regardless of what some uninformed fan suggested is actually quite remarkable. She handled the ball a lot today and only had two turnovers. But again, they went away from her and I’m not sure why.

AOG, is suddenly reluctant to make a post move and I wonder why? Is it because she has lost the ball a few times & being told not to etc.?

Why do we keep throwing the ball in over the top when, we can’t execut it and she fumbles it away. Ava has missed a few too.
Now I think it’s reasonable to understand we do need to keep trying, but man are we bad at it?

Again, not a coaching issue unless you think they should take that out of their offense and that’s probably not reasonable. But it definitely is an execution issue.

As good as we are defensively, we have a lapse from time to time after a big made shot, that has to stop.

Ultimately every loss isn’t because the coach did a poor job this team is still working through some kinks. They haven’t had a bad loss, and the games they have lost were very winnable. Probably what makes it so frustrating.

But the over the top criticisms are silly to me…

I’m missing a couple things that I wish they'd do better and obviously I didn’t really even address the good, thoughts?

Hush-money judge on Trump: ‘Premeditated and continuous deception’

In the matter of Donald J. Trump, the criminal justice system failed egregiously to hold the once and future president accountable. It’s almost inconceivable that Trump will spend a single day behind bars. To the contrary, New York State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan suggested that, given Trump’s imminent return to the White House, he plans enter a no-strings-attached sentence of “unconditional discharge.”

Make sense of the latest news and debates with our daily newsletter

Still, to read Merchan’s decision last week upholding Trump’s felony conviction is to see welcome glimmers of accountability for Trump’s underlying conduct and his behavior as the prosecution proceeded. The consequences may be mostly symbolic and rhetorical, but symbolism and rhetoric matter. Most important is that the jury verdict stands; Trump will pursue his appeal, but, 10 days after the scheduled sentencing, he will be the first president to enter the White House as a felon. And Merchan dismissed Trump’s preposterous claims that the presidential immunity declared by the Supreme Court somehow extends to Trump as president-elect and prevents him from being sentenced, especially since it was Trump himself who sought the postponement.
I have been skeptical of the legal theory under which Trump was prosecuted for hiding his hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, the subject of the New York case brought by District Attorney Alvin Bragg. But there is no question about the offensiveness — and seriousness — of Trump’s underlying conduct, seeking to keep the relationship hidden from voters during the 2016 campaign.

Trump’s lawyers argued that the case should be dismissed because, among other things, his alleged conduct paled in comparison to homicide, sexual assault and other crimes prosecuted in New York. Merchan wasn’t having any of that.

“Seriousness and harm are not measured solely by the level of violence inflicted or the extent of financial harm. Seriousness can be gauged by considering the significance of the act under the unique circumstances of the case, as well as by the harm to society as a whole,” Merchan wrote.
The jury, he noted, unanimously found Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in pursuit of a conspiracy to win the presidential election through unlawful means. “It was the premediated and continuous deception by the leader of the free world that is the gravamen of this offense,” he wrote. “To vacate this verdict on the grounds that the charges are insufficiently serious given the position Defendant once held, and is about to assume again, would … cause immeasurable damage to the citizenry’s confidence in the Rule of Law.”

These words stand. They cannot be wiped out — no matter how many times Trump cries witch hunt about the charges against him.
And speaking of Trump’s rhetoric, Merchan had some choice words on that, again worth heeding and valuable to have on the record. Trump, contending that his “contributions to this City and the Nation are too numerous to count,” asserted that his public service and character should weigh as important factors in dismissing the charges.
Merchan wasn’t buying — and he turned Trump’s claims of exemplary character on their head.
“Defendant has gone to great lengths to broadcast on social media and other forums his lack of respect for judges, juries, grand juries and the justice system as a whole. In the case at bar, despite repeated admonitions, this Court was left with no choice but to find the Defendant guilty of 10 counts of Contempt.”

His conclusion? “Defendant’s character and history vis-a-vis the Rule of Law and the Third Branch of government must be analyzed under this factor in direct relation to the result he seeks, and in that vein, it does not weigh in his favor.”
Merchan took a well-deserved swipe at Trump’s attorneys, too — invoking the year-end warning by U.S. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. about attacks on judges. Merchan noted past instances in which “counsel has come dangerously close to crossing the line of zealous representation and ... professional advocacy.”
He added: “Counsel has resorted to language, indeed rhetoric, that has no place in legal pleadings. For example, countless times in their Motion to Dismiss, counsel accuses the prosecution and this Court of engaging in ‘unlawful’ and ‘unconstitutional’ conduct. These same terms are also peppered throughout Defendant’s Reply. Those words, by definition, mean ‘criminally punishable.’ Viewed in full context and mindful of the parties to this action, such arguments, in the broader picture, have the potential to create a chilling effect on the Third Branch of government.”

These words matter, not least because they are not directed at any ordinary lawyers. Trump has tapped his lawyers in the New York case to be top lieutenants at the Justice Department: Todd Blanche as deputy attorney general, the No. 2 official in charge of day-to-day operations, and Emil Bove for Blanche’s top deputy.
Will these lawyers moderate their zeal on Trump’s behalf when their client is the United States, not Trump personally? We can hope Merchan’s words have a beneficial chilling effect, even if the record suggests a more dismal outcome.

HWC Future Vision

The point of this thread is to ask for help getting a pulse on where the HWC is and where it's headed.

As a non-insider, here are the things I think are true:

Post-COVID, HWC hit the reset button and the nearly all of the championship team joined. 50 year mark led to a re-brand and an evolution of communication and online presence including fundraising. Obviously Spencer's Olympic run last year. DeSanto's freestyle tournaments and recent Greco foray has been fun. Most of the championship team members have moved on, no new additions from last years seniors.

Didn't Dennis say he was stepping down as coach like a while ago? Do we/have we ever brought in "transfers" - non-Hawkeye alum? How does Sunkist shutting down and OSU club on the rise affect us?

Given the potential of a club of this stature, both in international competition and on recruiting for the Hawks, I ask the many of you who are far more knowledgeable for your thoughts and insights.

18 out of 18 (big10) & 72 out of 130 - transfer portal rankings

I was told by almost every beat writer how important this year's portal was to sending kirk off in style with 1-2 more successful years. Fast forward today and this may have been a bigger disappointment than Phil's defense returning 8 starters and falling flat on their face.

I honestly think it has more to do with scheme and fitting into the "iowa way" than not matching NIL $. Kirk and co would rather have strong personality traits than skill and its showing.

As it sits today this team wins 4-6 games, kirk falls below 60% win percentage making him ineligible for the HOF, and finishes his legacy laying an egg.

“Congestion Fees” starting in NYC
