'Very scary prospect': Spike in illegal immigrants from this US adversary blows lid off previous year's record

It's the University president and AD's job to secure NIL funding. Schools successful with NIL, begin with the president and AD!

If they fail, the sports programs will fail because the best teams in football and basketball are aggressive and successful in the portal. There are some very wealthy alumni from UI. The pres and AD must cultivate those relationships and explain the role of NIL. Then have them get their friggin' check books out!

Big-Time Football Visitor Tomorrow

2026 tight end out of Mt. Zion, Illinois, JC Anderson will be on campus tomorrow. Anderson is a top-140 prospect in the country, and the number one recruit in Illinois. At 6'7", 230 pounds with hands of a receiver and the ability to run like a deer, Anderson will be a steal for whoever lands him.

While his recruitment is still wide open, the Hawkeyes have made a solid first impression with him, and the TEU label is definitely landing in Iowa's favor. Top competition at this point appears to be Notre Dame, but he's also got offers from programs like Wisconsin, Tennessee, Penn State, Missouri, Ole Miss, and others.

Here's my previous story on Anderson:

He recapped some of his spring visits with Edgy Tim last month:

Iowa Priority Targets and Big Names Taking Spring Visits

In addition to Chris McCorkle who will be on campus March 30, I confirmed today with Cameron Herron that he'll be visiting on March 23.

Owen Lansu, who does not currently have an offer, will be visiting on the 23rd as well.

I'll add names to this list when they get their visits set in stone.

Olympic Spotlight: Busy Week For Hawkeye Sports

It was a packed schedule for Hawkeye Olympic sports last week. Track and Field picked up three 1-2 finishes last weekend in the men's and women's steeplechase and men's discus. The Hawkeyes also posted top-10 times on the men's side in the steeplechase.

Elsewhere, Iowa tennis celebrated Senior Day with a win, Hawkeye rowing dominated in the Big 10/ Big 12 Dual and Noah Kent picked up a top-ten finish for Iowa golf.

University of Iowa eyeing $40M hydraulics facility in Coralville

The University of Iowa’s world-renowned hydroscience and engineering center wants to build a new $40 million hydraulic modeling facility in Coralville — an endeavor aimed at maintaining the program’s leadership and innovation in an increasingly-relevant field.

“This new facility will help Iowa researchers remain at the forefront of research that will help us solve some of the world’s toughest challenges, from dramatic weather change, to flooding in areas plagued by poverty, and environmental pollution,” UI Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations Rod Lehnertz said in a statement.

Based in the C. Maxwell Stanley Hydraulics Laboratory — a 104-year-old five-story brick building on the banks of the Iowa River — IIHR-Hydroscience and Engineering is a UI College of Engineering unit known for its game-changing discoveries and resource innovation, including the Iowa Flood Center it founded in 2009 as the nation’s first university-based center committed to flood research.

The new facility proposed for the university’s Oakdale campus in Coralville would offer more space for hydraulic model studies of things like canals, rivers, dams and spillways. It would encourage and enhance global research partnerships, which require large physical models, and include capacity for future growth.

Should the Board of Regents at its meeting next week give the UI the nod to plan and build a new hydraulics facility, the program could consolidate office space for the Iowa Geological Survey, the Iowa Flood Center and IIHR’s engineering services group. The expectation, according to board documents, is it would improve the efficiency of applied research by “consolidating physical model studies and shop fabrication areas to the UI Oakdale Campus.”

UI hydroscience facilities already located on the Oakdale campus include the Hydraulics Wave Basin, Hydraulic Annex 2 and Iowa Geological Survey. Given the hydraulics research already housed there, this project could increase their support services.

And it would replace aging and off-campus infrastructure, with UI intentions to raze the Hydraulics Annex 1, built in 1979 on the Oakdale campus, and sell the James Street Laboratory facility, built in 2003 a mile south of the new facility.

“The new facility would be the next step in an accomplished history of hydroscience research at Iowa, which has spanned more than a century,” according to the UI Office of Strategic Communication.

UI hydroscience research started in 1920 in a small building along the Iowa River before moving into its larger, current space about a decade later. Since then, the university has added nine annexes, labs and shops committed to “the science and technology of water management.”

Football Media Availability 4/16

Didn't get a ton of time with RB/LB/PKs this morning, but got some decent stuff.

Some quick notes:
-Kamari Moulton dropped "We actually have fun in practice" today regarding the offense matching up with the defense in practice
-It turns out Rhys Dakin was told he'd be going to Iowa. Wasn't much of a decision on what school he'd be going to. Said he's happy with the choice, though. Been some culture (and weather) shock of course, but said he's happy with where he's at. Added that the day he was flying in he was approached by an Iowa fan at the Dallas airport who knew he was the new punter. Surprised him too
-Kaleb Johnson said he's back to working on using his physicality as a runner and punishing defenders. He talked about that before the fall last year, but is emphasizing it again this spring.
-Jaden Harrell is hoping to be the next in line behind Jack Campbell and Jay Higgins of great Iowa mike linebackers. That was a big factor in why he has decided to stay at Iowa instead of hit the portal.
-Nick Jackson said he had a meeting with some of the other defensive guys before he made the decision to come back. Ultimately came down to wanting to spend more than another week with his teammates.

Will have some stories today expanding on a few of these today, plus YouTube videos uploading as we speak.
