Do you have any New Year's resolutions for 2025?

I've made New Year's resolutions a few times in the past and I've kept maybe half of them. It helps to write them down and read them each week.

In 2022, my resolution was to stop arguing with people and I've improved by maybe 80%. In an extremely divided society, arguing seems to be a problem and it's getting worse.

In 2025, my resolution is to try to detach from worldly matters like politics to focus on other issues like life after death, which I believe are more important. The great quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson applies: "Mind the eternities, not the times."

How about you?

* Official Dolphins @ Browns Game Day Thread *

The 7-8 Miami Dolphins travel to Cleveland to face the 3-12 Browns today at 4:05 eastern time on CBS.

Amazingly, the Dolphins are still not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, thanks to the Bengals' win.

To make the playoffs, Miami needs:

* Dolphins win vs Browns
* Dolphins win vs Jets
* Broncos lose vs Chiefs
* Colts lose vs Giants or Jaguars

Tua is listed as "doubtful" for the game.

Vegas has Miami at -3. The O/U is 32.5.

Weather Report: It's a winter heatwave in Cleveland! Temps will be in the upper 50s with light rain tapering off as the game progresses. But the winds will be 20-25 mph out of the south with higher gusts! Don't depend on the kicking game for this one!

Arrogant Kamala Harris told union president she’d win election ‘with or without you’ — before crushing loss

Arrogant Kamala Harris told union president she’d win election ‘with or without you’ — before crushing loss

Not a winning attitude.

A union leader revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris stormed out of a meeting on the campaign trail, arrogantly telling him she didn’t need his support because she’d “win with you or without you” — just before her crushing loss to Donald Trump.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien recalled the episode on “The Tucker Carlson Show” Monday as he discussed his union’s historic decision not to endorse a presidential candidate for the first time in nearly 30 years.

O’Brien said Harris finally agreed to sit with the Teasmstars for a roundtable after President Biden dropped out of the race, just to only answer a quarter of their 16 questions. Other candidates, including Trump, answered them all.

“On the fourth question, one of her operatives or one of her staff slips a note in front of me — ‘This will be the last question.’ And it was 20 minutes earlier than the time it was going to end,” O’Brien told Carlson.

“And her declaration of the way out was, ‘I’m going to win with you or without you,’’ he recalled.

Carlson quipped, “Damn. I thought I was arrogant. That’s really arrogant.”

O’Brien said he contacted Biden’s former Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh to talk about the vice president.

“Let me ask you a question, Marty. Excuse my French. Who does this f–king lady think she is?” he remembered asking Walsh, who is now the head of the NHL Players’ Association.

The union president said he had met Biden before he ended his reelection bid and was concerned at his decline — saying the Democrats’ initial plan to run the 82-year-old for a second term “kinda looked like elderly abuse.”

“We had Biden in there and you could just clearly tell he was not the man he was. It was kinda sad,” O’Brien said, adding that Biden was a good president for workers.

Weeks before the election, O’Brien announced that for the first time since 1996 the Teamsters would not be endorsing a presidential candidate after years of a relatively reliable alliance with Democrats.

In fact, the union revealed its 1.3 million members overwhelmingly supported Trump over Harris 59.6% to 34%.

Before Biden withdrew, he’d held a steady lead of 44.3% to Trump’s 36.3%.

The Teamsters backed the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 and endorsed Hillary Clinton over Trump in 2016.

Johnson attributes prayer to Thomas Jefferson, but there’s no proof he said it

Shortly before Mike Johnson was sworn in as House speaker on Friday, he stood in front of the incoming members of Congress and offered what he said was “a prayer for the nation” that was said every day Thomas Jefferson was in the White House and “and every day thereafter until his death.”

Johnson attributed that detail to a program distributed at a bipartisan interfaith church service where he spoke earlier that day.
Johnson told the lawmakers, it is “quite familiar to historians and probably many of us.”
“Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth,” Johnson said, reading from a piece of paper.

Historians do know the quote — because it has been falsely attributed to Jefferson for years. There is no proof Jefferson ever said it, according to the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, which has a page on its website dedicated to correcting this notion, a Voice of America reporter noted on X.

“We have no evidence that this prayer was written or delivered by Thomas Jefferson. It appears in the 1928 United States Book of Common Prayer, and was first suggested for inclusion in a report published in 1919,” the foundation writes.

Furthermore, the organization said reciting a prayer like this is not something Jefferson would have ever done.
“Ultimately, it seems unlikely that Jefferson would have composed or delivered a public prayer of this sort,” the organization said. “He considered religion a private matter, and when asked to recommend a national day of fasting and prayer, wrote, ‘I consider the government of the US. as interdicted by the constitution from intermedling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises.’”

Emails seeking comment sent to a spokesperson for Johnson and the group that organized the interfaith prayer service were not returned.

On Saturday, Rep. Jared Huffman (D-California) wrote on X that the House speaker’s misrepresentation of a Founding Father was part of a wider problem.
“To be clear, I object to his false attribution of the prayer to Jefferson — part of the endless Christian nationalist campaign to remake Jefferson into a devout Christian when he was actually an enlightenment era freethinker who thought religion should remain private and out of government,” the congressman said in reply to a reporter who cited his first post.

SUBWAY INFERNO Horror as woman dies after being set on fire & burned alive while sleeping on NYC subway as attacker ‘watched her die’

A WOMAN suffered a horrific death after she was set on fire while asleep on a New York subway.

The attacker calmly watched his victim burn to death after setting her ablaze at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Station in Brooklyn in front of shocked commuters.

A suspect was arrested following what the police commissioner called “one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit.”

The woman was riding an F train in Coney Island when the man allegedly threw a lit match at her.

She was found burning alive in the middle of the train after passengers smelled smoke at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station.

"What they saw was a person standing inside the train car fully engulfed in flames," New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press conference.

Horrific footage shows the suspect watching as the woman was engulfed by flames, the New York Post reports.

The man was brazenly sitting on a nearby bench while police officers were desperately trying to find out what happened shouting ", “Did anybody see anything? Did anybody see anything?”

The officers used fire extinguishers to put out the fire and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Transit police apprehended the suspect after receiving a report from three high school students who had recognized the man.

Other transit officers identified the man on another subway train and radioed ahead to the next station

They had seen images of the suspect taken from surveillance and police body cam video and widely distributed by police.

Other transit officers identified the man on another subway train and radioed ahead to the next station.

The man had a lighter in his pocket when he was taken into custody.

Horrified commuters were shocked to see the woman being carted out of the station.

A worker at the subway station told the New York Post: "I was just walking by. The cops were there already.

"I didn’t see her in flames but that’s what I heard. It was out. They shut the lights off [in the car] so nobody could see."

Hopefully Alvin Bragg doesn't file charges against anyone who attempted to stop the firebug.

Trump again upheld as a sexual abuser

The federal appeals court today upheld the jury’s verdict finding Donald Trump sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll and denied his request for a new trial. What a shame. The upcoming US president (Trump, not Musk) is again judged guilty of sexual abuse and is labeled a sexual abuser. We all knew that, but our legal system again confirms it. Sad day for the USA.
