Checking in on recent transfers

This is as of December 17, 2024. Intended for the curious, not as a judgment.

Patrick McCaffery - Butler: 11.9 ppg, started all 11 games for 7-4 Butler. Shooting .470% from 3 - not sure if he changed anything or has just been on a heater.

Tony Perkins - Mizzou: 7.8 ppg, started 4 games, played 8 for 9-1 Missouri. Must have been hurt for a bit. Only has one game in double figure scoring.

CJ Frederick - Cincy: 1.6 ppg in limited minutes over 5 games for #19 Cincinnati. Yep, he's still around - he redshirted in Joe Wieskamp's freshman class at Iowa.

Ahron Ulis - Nebraska: 3.4 ppg in about 15 min/game for 7-2 Nebraska. Finally got to play after having to sit last year for the gambling investigation. We'll see him January 7th.

Dasonte Bowen - St. Bonaventure: Averaging 11.1 and 4.2 assists, starting 10/11 games for a 10-1 St. Bonaventure team. They lost to Utah State too - He had 15 pts.

Josh Ogundele - Tennessee State: Yep, he's still around too. Left Middle Tennessee last year and has already played in 11 games with the first 2 starts of his college career. 4.5 pts 3.7 reb. Team is 4-7.

Amarion Nimmers - Tampa Spartans: After a stop at Indian Hills CC, is averaging 16.1 ppg and shooting .426 from 3 for the D2 school, which is 7-2 on the season.

Weird stuff going on in Bennington, NE.

I've seen updates for several days on this story, and it looks like the police are making progress. Multiple people have reported that while driving a night they came upon debris in the road, and had to swerve to avoid hitting it. In one case the driver could not successfully avoid the debris and wound up in a ravine. Each driver reported a man walking up to them after the accident. The immediate speculation being that the man was putting the debris into the road to cause the incidents.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)

The acronym should not be lost on anyone that DOGE is the crypto ticker symbol for Dogecoin. It's gone up about 50% in the past week, so if you purchased Dogecoin after Elon and Trump announced the DOGE, congrats.

That said, I'm a huge fan of a department dedicated to government efficiency. Sounds like a PITA if I were a federal employee, but they work for us, and they should do it efficiently.

If Trump hangs on...buy DOGE.

Recruits in the new rankings

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

Jim Leach and wrestling

Former congressman Jim Leach passed away, and here is what the obit in the CR Gazette had to say about his wrestling career:

"But Leach’s humility receded when it came to his accomplishments as a wrestler. He won a state title in 1960 for Davenport High School.
“He liked to say that he'd been inducted in the Wrestling Hall of Fame,” Wierzynski said.
"I’ve always thought that the most equalitarian place in the world is the wrestling mat," Leach said in a 2009 interview. "You have two people operating with the same goal in mind and abiding by the same rules. Wrestlers may differ in height and body type, but it’s hard to say who has the natural advantage." "

Always a maverick, and always an Iowan. We will miss him.
