Former congressman Jim Leach passed away, and here is what the obit in the CR Gazette had to say about his wrestling career:

"But Leach’s humility receded when it came to his accomplishments as a wrestler. He won a state title in 1960 for Davenport High School.
“He liked to say that he'd been inducted in the Wrestling Hall of Fame,” Wierzynski said.
"I’ve always thought that the most equalitarian place in the world is the wrestling mat," Leach said in a 2009 interview. "You have two people operating with the same goal in mind and abiding by the same rules. Wrestlers may differ in height and body type, but it’s hard to say who has the natural advantage." "

Always a maverick, and always an Iowan. We will miss him.

My Sorel house slippers are about due for a run through the washing machine. They emit a bit of a musky odor somewhat reminiscent of a sour beer. It is objectively an "odor" but I actually kind of appreciate it.

Lots of speculation. Will it be formally announced today?

This team was certainly going to have some growing pains. Tennessee is not going to the last team to expose weaknesses. Every player on the team has to get better for the Hawkeyes to have a 20 plus win season. Still, undue pessimism at the point is to sell this team and the coaching staff far too short! Next game is Wednesday night…

This isn't surprising but jesus ****ing christ. The man is a nut. I'm curious how many animal carcasses he'll leave in random places or take home during the next 4 years.

I’d imagine most of the Iowa State players will play in its bowl game. On the flip side, I see Miami being gutted for the game. Transfer portal, leaving for the draft, sitting out cuz they’re pissed they didn’t make the playoffs, and an overall lack of interest in playing Iowa State (take a look at social media… there’s absolutely zero buzz out of Miami or its fans about playing ISU). That said, I see Iowa State winning this one big.

Wondering the same about Iowa - Missouri. Neither really had a chance at the playoffs, so other than a few star players (KJ, etc), I’m thinking a lot of starters will play. Or no? I’ll say Iowa by 4.

I am a fan of high rye and high proof bourbons. I have the means to get what I want within reason. "Within reason" is different for everyone including me and my wife. I have multiple bottles in my cabinet that are in the $150-$200 range and a couple more than that.

Right now, I'm on the lookout for a bottle of Little Book Edition 1 "The Infinite". The msrp is $200 with secondary markets selling it for double that. I'd probably be willing to go to $300-$350. My wife doesn't understand that at all. What would you be willing to pay for a single bottle?
