Alan Ritchson, the titular star of Prime Video’s Reacher series, has been known to share his political opinions despite how they may conflict with those of the show’s conservative fan base. And even though some viewers have threatened to stop watching the popular streamer series in protest of Ritchson’s “woke” comments, he’s doubling down on his message of police accountability in a post to Instagram this week.

The digs aimed at Ritchson were related to an interview he did with The Hollywood Reporter this month, in which he addressed the online stir among Reacher fans after an old photo of him wearing an “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor” tee shirt resurfaced: “Cops get away with murder all the time, and the fact that we can’t really hold them accountable for their improprieties is disturbing to me,” he said in the interview. “We should completely reform the way that we do it. I mean, you shouldn’t have to spend more time getting an education as a hairstylist than as a cop who’s armed with a deadly weapon.”

The National Fraternal Order of Police caught wind of Ritchson’s comments and posted a photo of the actor to its Instagram page, calling him a “useless Hollywood actor” who is “virtue signaling for attention at the expense of brave police officers.” Ritchson responded to the post on Tuesday, calling it a “concerning” display of “emotional immaturity” in his lengthy reply.

“This kind of emotionally immature response is the epitome of what concerns me about law enforcement today,” he wrote in the post. “If this is how leadership handles a peaceful disagreement, what does life look like for those unseen interactions in the street? How does this shape the character of those police officers looking to management?”

“Do you really want individuals so easily angered and bully[sic] like school children to have a gun and the protection of an untouchable union?” he also said.

Ritchson went on to say that he knows there are “many good and brave cops” but pretending that there aren’t some bad apples indicates “blind allegiance” he called “dangerous” and “fertile ground for fascism.”

“There are rogue or ill-equipped officers who remind us that we need higher barriers to entry and stricter regulations so abuses are relegated to the past,” he continued, “To only seek praise and ignore this need is extremely unwise and endangers those at risk of being ostracized and marginalized.”

Ritchson also took the opportunity to call out Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. “To make matters worse, in Florida, voters perpetuate these issues by continuing to support people like Gov. Desantis who just passed a law making it illegal for anyone other than the police to police themselves,” he wrote, referring to the governor’s recent bill that limits police oversight panels in the state.

“This lack of transparency would be laughable if not so deadly,” he added. “Efforts like these take us further from the world I hope to leave for my children, which is one with extreme prudence when deciding who we arm and a glass house for public institutions. Especially ones with the ability to end lives.”

In the same Hollywood Reporter interview, Ritchson opened up about his own Christian faith and expressed frustration over how conservatives have seemingly co-opted his religion. “Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal,” he remarked. “I don’t understand it.”

In summary, Alan says he support good cops and basically agrees they're heroes. What he doesn't support are bad cops which means it's not blind allegiance.

And just look at the morons who refuse to look at and understand what Alan is trying to say:
  • Goodbye to another show. Let’s hope you never need to call the police for help, which you will one day. Also in your show you work with police, use violence….your just another hypocrite and you just ruined your career.
  • You should pray you never need the police. If I was a police officer called to help you I'd leave you be. I'm from the UK and I find your remarks disgusting. I'll never watch you again.
  • You’re a condescending entitled small minded brat. No, cops do not get away with murder all the time. Did Colin Kaepernick tell you that over hors d’oeuvres? This is pure bullshit. Please leave LAPD alone. They deserve better.
  • Just as you're becoming a big deal, your woke comments ruin it. The Bud light of actors
  • You're not brave, you're a coward.

If I was a potential star in hollywood, I just would try not to comment on the political stuff. I respect that he is saying what he believes, but I also approve of what he is saying here and what he said about Trump. Now if I was a retired cop MAGA, he might have lost me as a fan.

The longer I live, the more I understand how Michael Jordan was able to keep silent about that stuff when he was coming up. What did he say, republicans need to buy shoes too?

It's easy to swallow your tongue and not speak. It's hard to stand up for what you believe is wrong and still get the cancel treatment. I will take the latter.

Their tune changes very quickly when they are impacted by a bad officer.(BAU for republicans, something only becomes an issue if it affects them) Then they scream for “accountability.”

My reply to them in these instances- “back the blue until it happens to you”

His incredible hotness outweighs his political naïveté.
He absolutely has a right to his beliefs but he and others of both sides need to just shut up and be hot hot hot.
I’m not looking at the guy and wondering what his politics are. I bet other women aren’t either.

Good for him. I think most people think the same or similar. Support good cops; get rid of the bad ones.

Unfortunately, we never do the second part of that statement. We just kick the can down the road and send them down the line to the next jurisdiction.

Seriously, I'm so out of the loop these days I didn't even know there was a TV series on Reacher. Was even more surprised to find out it's on Prime, one of the few streaming services I have. Will start watching tonight, as I love all these books.

Meanwhile, regardless of his politics, look on the bright side---he's not Tom Cruise, one of the worst casting decisions in movie history.

Of note is the fact that he grew up in a military family so I suspect he does have a law and order mindset. He most likely just wants good guys wearing the badge and to make sure the bad apples are thrown out. Hard to disagree.

This ^ (minus the hotness, sorry @NoleATL ). Tom Cruise is nuts, but I pay him to entertain me. I honestly don't care what nonsense he subscribes to in his personal life. Even if Alan voted for Trump, I'd still watch Reacher.

Exactly. (some) people are just too indoctrinated (and/or ignorant) to understand that. Alan likely has more respect for the Armed Forces than Donald.

Ruh Ruh. Alan went for the jugular on this one! (Oh, and I think Ritchson is my new favorite person, btw!)

Right-Wing 'Reacher' Fans Flip Out After Alan Ritchson Calls Trump A 'Rapist And A Con-Man'

“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson is receiving a whole lot of attention for some harsh words he had for Donald Trump and his devotees.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published earlier this month, the action star explained why he’s confused by Christians who support the former president.

“Christians today have become the most vitriolic tribe,” said Ritchson, who himself identifies as a follower of Jesus. “It is so antithetical to what Jesus was calling us to be and to do.”

“Trump is a rapist and a con man,” he went on, “And yet the entire Christian church seems to be treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”

Ritchson’s comments largely flew under the radar for right-wingers, until Trump Cabinet alum Sebastian Gorka addressed the interview during a segment on his radio show “America First” last week.

During his five-minute-plus rant, Gorka told Ritchson to “shut your pie hole” when it comes to “political views” and “keep doing your play acting.”

Many conservatives seemed incensed by Ritchson’s remarks and vowed to boycott “Reacher,” which follows a brawny vagabond ex-Army police officer with a taste for vigilantism.

While the backlash from the MAGA sect was loud, there were also plenty of people who applauded the star for speaking his mind.

Based on the best-selling “Jack Reacher” book series by Lee Child, the show has been an undeniable success for Amazon.

Last December, “Reacher” debuted its second season at No. 2 on Nielsen’s overall streaming charts, with a total of 1.2 billion viewing minutes.

The Rock refuses to take a stance on anything, meanwhile jack reacher over here is going scorched earth on MAGA crowds, Trump, and the police force.

I look at him wondering how many ways he can break it off in me.

This thread is going ghey big time. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Enjoy my gay and wanna be gay brethren. Off to find hetero porn to offset!

It is hard to disagree, yet there's a very vocal and pretty large contingent who view any criticism of police as woke commie crap. You'd think the unions would want the bad ones out too which would make life easier on them, but they appear hell bent on zero scrutiny.

You'd think they'd cancel the rapist conman not the guy pointing it out.

It’s funny how a celebrity answering questions sets off politicians and the general public. Everyone gets an opinion. He was asked a question and answered honestly.

I enjoyed the first two seasons. The dude playing Reacher isn't a very good actor, but at least he looks the part.

Tom Cruise is an incredible actor, but I was just as confused as everybody else when they tabbed him to portray a guy who is repeatedly described as 6'4" 250 lbs in the books lol.

Hey now. Reacher got his career going as a linebacker at Blue Mountain State

I like this dude as he calls out both sides. He made Bill Maher look like an idiot on his own podcast as well. My sons can learn from this man. If Iowa isn't an option I'm steering them towards Blue Mountain State
