North Korea may FAFO and find out how obsolete their equipment is like Russia did. Same with China who bought a ton of stuff from Russia. They make a mistake if they think the Ukraine Russian, war in which Russia has literally destroyed their land army and shown their naval and airforce to be a joke, will stop the US and allies from helping South Korea or Taiwan. And Israel has already basically cowed Iran. WWIII is almost over and no NATO alliance country nor their Pacific partners (Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and New Zealand) have had a military death combat yet.
I have always thought the saber rattling from China is all bluster due to the economic and military cost China would incur by such a move. Guess we will see. We do need to when ourselves off of manufactured goods from China with haste. Covid already showed us this.

If he comes into the store again (said he would), I'm going to ask him about this. He's an expert in North Korea and served as the US Ambassador to S Korea in an acting capacity for a year and was the back channel to North Korea. I'll post what he has to say if he does share anything.

There's an ego/pride component to it as well, so I don't feel particularly safe trying to rationalize their conduct and conclude they won't do something just because it's 'dumb' to you and me.
