It will end up Clark, Richards, NATO, Micic, Cortez, Montoya...tough weight. Any one of the top 4 can surprise Clark in a dual

Not big ten but Earl Hall may be the 5th most accomplished in the group but he's not the 5th best until he can get off bottom. Very talented on his feet but he's a freshman on bottom.

I don't think Montota has the offense to compete with Clark. It'll be interesting to see how Tomasello does up a weight. I imagine he'll be just as dominant with how big of a 125lber he was. He was cutting some serious lbs last year and I have to imagine that came into play in OT against Gilman.

Richards has proven he can beat anyone, just not in March yet.

Full faith in Corey to open things up a NCAAs with Back to Back Champs.

Montoya already has a win over Clark dude....a forfeit.

Montoya improved a lot during last year. He went from a possible starter to an AA. he's a clinger that is incredibly hard to score on. Their match in Lincoln was razor thin last year with Clark getting the ride out for the win. He was in on Clark quite a few times too. They about threw down afterwards too so I'd assume both will be ready for that match.

I'm excited for Clark vs. Cortez. They have a history back in HS with them going back and forth and Clark winning when it counted(Fargo).

if I remember right Montoya took some cheap shots and I don't mean for takedowns.

I don't think there is any doubt that Clark is the best 133lber in the country. However, he is going to do it sort of like Jose Valverde did it for the Tigers back in 2011. He was 49 for 49 in Save Opportunities. But, he always gave up a hit and a walk and made you sweat it out. Clark is long and lanky. As a result he often lets guys get to his legs. But, only the elite are able to finish and in March he seems to step it up a couple notches.

I predict either Richards or NaTo trip him up during the "regular season" but, in March, he will be standing at the top of the podium!

I agree with you about Clark, but could you come up with a better analogy, since the "save" is the most overrated stat in baseball?

Montoya thinks Clark killed his father. :D

Johnni DiJulius probably didn't have the offense to compete with Clark either but he beat him in the dual a couple of years ago. Let's not forget that Montoya has got an All-American finish under his belt already. That being said I agree that NCAAs is a different animal and Corey will be ready to go and get back to the finals again in that tournament.

Wow, you think so? That may have been true 20 or more years ago, but in Today's Baseball, it is HUGE! Guys like Mariano Rivera and Britton this year, were/are paramount to their team's success. Being a Tiger's fan and having to watch a brutal bullpen, I have to wholeheartedly(but in a friendly way so that McCullough doesn't call me out for trying to piss some off;)) disagree with you!

You want a ridiculous baseball stat? I give you WAR.............

I totally agree that Mo was great and there just aren't many like him. Prior to Tony Larussa micro managing starting in the late 80's early 90's, you had relievers going 3 plus innings. But now there are 12-13 man pitching staffs, thus reducing everyone's bench to 2-4 guys, and you have stoppers coming into the 9th with no one on base. I loved those Tiger teams under Jim Leyland, especially when they had been just awful for a lot of years, and was sad when he retired.

Sorry to go off topic on another sport.

Clark has been money in March. Pretty big list of AA's he's dispatched of, and a lot of big names on the small list of losses. (copied from Hawkeye website)
FR Year (13-14)
Kory Mines (Edinboro) W‐TF 18‐2
Tyler Cox (AA-8th)(Wyoming) W‐D 8‐5
Jesse Delgado (3xAA/2x Champ)(Illinois) L‐D 10‐5
Edward Klimara (AA-7th)(Oklahoma State) W‐D 7‐6 (TB1)
Earl Hall (2xAA-8th/7th)(Iowa State) W‐D 10‐4
Nico Megaludis (4x AA/Champ)(Penn State) L‐D 5‐2
Dylan Peters (2xAA-6th/6th)(Northern Iowa) W‐D 8‐1

SO Year (14-15)
Ronald Perry (Lock Haven) W‐D 7‐5
Rossi Bruno (AA-8th)(MichigaN) W‐MD 12‐4
Earl Hall (2xAA-8th/7th)(Iowa State) W‐D 7‐1
Jimmy Gulibon (AA-5th)(Penn State) W‐D 7‐5
Cory Brewer (4x AA/champ)(Oklahoma) L‐D 11‐8

JR Year (15-16)
Jade Rauser (AA-8th)(Utah Valley) W-MD 8-0
Josh Alber (UNI) W-D 6-2
Eric Montoya (AA-5th)(Nebraska) W-D 4-0
Zane Richards (AA-4th)(Illinois) W-D 4-3
Nahshon Garrett (4x AA/Champ)(Cornell) L-D 7-6

Wins over 9 different AA's at NCAA's. With a combined 11 AA honors among them.
Losses to all champs and all 4x AA's minus Delgado who was a 3x AA (the same reason McDonough was only a 3x AA). Clark will join that ball club this year with a (5,2,2,1).
-Delgado (7,1,1,DNP)
-Megaludis (2,2,3,1)
-Brewer (7,8,1,3)
-Garrett (3,2,5,1)

Richards is the one to watch out for in that group. I think Nato will be too small/short to have an effective offense against the top guys and he won't be able to overpower them like he could at 25.

I agree that Richards is Coreys toughest out. He's lightning quick and extremely scrappy.

I think NATO is going to be plenty strong for the weight. He may struggle a bit with some of the lankier guys at the weight. I can see a potential matchup problem with him and Corey.

NATO may very well be able to neutralize his two on one. Also NATO is very explosive on bortom, negating Clarks tough ride. I see it as a 3 horse race. Corey has shown he can put it altogether when it counts, however.

All, if you look at big matches, Nato tends to shut down his offense and not use his power...at least in the Gilman and Nico matches I have seen. You know what kills Clark? Long athletic guys

He lost to Richards last year who is not/will not be a 4x AA. But Richards is on another level, in another league, on another stratosphere... so should have been expected.

I was talking about his record at NCAA's. I'm aware he has 2 career losses to Richards in the dual meets from the past 2 season. Also lost to DiJulius, Gulibon, and Taylor in his career. 1x apiece, 2x for Dardanes.

Richards is all cosmos with no one of his caliber. He can beat any and all one legged wrestlers. Cripes sake, end of story.

It will be a competitive weight, until the postseason. Clark conditions himself towards being under the lights it seems, as he just wins at that time. Just a gut feeling (and I had Chinese so it may be off), but I'm guessing Clark vs. Nato for title, Cory wins 3-1

It looks like Clark will see Tomato in a reg season dual. That's good cuz Cory's history has been to need a match to figure out an elite opponent...then better outcome in the 2nd contest

You are assuming that the Tomato won't be "injured" for the Iowa meet. Pretty big assumption given Ryan's past history. Will probably see him at BTs though.

Have no clue who we'd throw in if that was the case I doubt he's gonna wanna just give up 6

Micic was amazing at Junior Worlds finishing with a bronze medal. He's slick as all hell and can scramble with the best of them. Corys in your face, uber aggressive style seems like it would give him the advantage over Micic, who is also very offensive. Micic is very good at finding angles, he could struggle with a grinder like Cory.

Micic is a stud. There is no doubt about that. The big thing with him is will he be able to adjust to the D1 grind? It's been 3 years since he's wrestled a full season(HS). Also, is he going to be big enough for 133?

Another name to throw in is Ali Nasser. He hasn't wrestled a folkstyle season in a couple years. He was a Cali Juco champ and has been training at ASU. He has wins over NATO, Colman Scott Haze etc. He'll be another one to watch.
