Oh jeesh...it was the verbiage he was using so i went with it. It's a weaker weight compared to most others. We good? Go ahead and untuck those panties now sweetheart...

No. I'm hated here. Rarely does anyone kid around with me. Lol

Starocci has eligibility through 24-25 if he wants it, so Levi going this year isn't going to unstack anything at 165/174 for 24-25 unless one of Facundo, Haines or Starocci goes up to 184. Maybe so, but that's a lot of "growth knowledge" 2 years out.
Maybe Haines holds on to 157 next year then red shirts and makes the jump to 65/74

A lot of hand-wringing over a guy that many Iowa fans are disregarding. I'm already on record as saying Haines is the best of their young group including Van Ness and Facundo.

Oh, and Cael is a helluva strategist. He's usually playing 4D Chess in March while we're playing broken checkers.

Yes, Cael is quite the strategist and a master at 4D chess.

Cael decided to have Van Ness, Facundo and Haines - all top 10 p4p recruits, and all ranked #1 at their weight class - come to wrestle for PSU. Every other coach in the country thought they'd do better getting fewer elite guys and instead going for lower ranked HS wrestlers.

He's a 4D chess player at recruiting, that, we know. He's also 4D at match game planning.

My post’s premise was that Levi is going 157 this year because he can’t hold 157 per PSU fans. I have no idea whether he can hold 157
another year or another month. But assuming he can’t hold 157 and RS next year, there’s still a logjam 165-174 in 24-25 unless someone goes up currently there. It’s a good problem to have for PSU.

I think he just teetered too far for me. Bye Johnstown.
I still like you brother, you aren't even registering on my ban meter. 🤣
Btw, been to Johnstown way back in the day.
Was working, had a pretty good time if I recall.

They have a lab for that.

Oh did it? My apologies then. I thought discussing a big 10 157 lber in a thread about big 10 157 seeding would be appropriate. Silly us ..
Indeed it did. First, I’ll take my responsibility for stirring the pot with the comment about Haines not wrestling Humphries or Saldate.
I had a sense of foreboding that this would turn into a thread about PSU, which it did, when my post was made.
My hope was the thread would be about COBE and the challenges he’ll face in the Big Ten tournament.
I still think one of Van Ness, Haines, Fucnado or Sealy ends up transferring. There just aren’t enough weights and I don’t see any of them wanting to sit, unless it’s of their own volition.

Why hell....you should have just said that in the first place. Maybe I should have talked about this stuff in the Cobe thread AZ started. I went ahead and deleted all my posts here. Apologies if I missed any. Maybe those who quoted me will do the same for you. Again... sorry.

How many in the projected logjam have. or may reasonably have, an Olympic redshirt (in addition to Haines' redshirt)?

I think:

Currently qualified: Brooks, Starocci, Facundo, Barr, Ryder, Kasak, Sealy

Potential to qualify: Haines

Some combo from among Barr, Ryder. Kasak, and Sealy could also gray shirt and redshirt.

I hear a lot of PSU fans saying Levi is not long for 157- please link Carl saying the same. I have rarely heard Carl showing his hand on virtually anything.
I don't know where all of this Haines to 165 business is coming from, I heard it straight from Levi's mouth that he walks around under 165.

It came from Caels mouth several times. I deleted the video I posted in this thread out of respect for the OP where Cael said it and also said Levi eventually moving up will help make room for recruits coming in. I assume he meant Sealy and maybe Kasak.

but even in that same interview, he says he'd like to move up.

i'm somewhat skeptical. i feel like people have been expecting him to grow for a couple years now. I think his dad is big? But it doesn't always work like that. The fact he's only around 165 right now makes me think he can make 157 for at least another year. and him moving up only creates two problems - a hole at 157 and a logjam at 165/174.

and then when you look at the strength of 157 compared to 165....i wouldn't be hitting the buffets too hard if i were him.

My hopes is he goes 157 one more year. After that, the 157 hole could be filled by Sealy or Kasak or hell maybe Van Ness is still growing. But if he does go 157 one more season, I'm not seeing the logjam you are speaking of. Levi would still have a redshirt and if CStar does take his covid year that's when I'd expect Levi to take it. If he doesn't theres no logjam at all...you'd see Facundo move to 174 with Levi at 165.

Is the expectation that Barr will be 184+?

What do you think of Kasak/Sealy as prospects? I really liked Sealy early, but the last half year have exposed some real holes in his game imo. Not super familiar with Kasak.

Not sure there are any expectations with Barr. I'm just spitballin' with him then there's also Ryder they have to consider. Good problems to have for sure. I still love Sealy and thrilled he's going to PSU. He's not polished by any means but I like the room and partners he's going to have to make him better. Kasak I think is really coming on and will be just fine. From 157-197 I think PSU is set for next 5 years or so. 149 as well if Kasak doesn't grow any. For me, I'm most excited to see Caels plan recruiting wise for the light weights in the coming years. Will Breaden Davis turn out to be a stud? Where will Perry eventually slot in? Is Robbie Howard gonna be good to go or will injuries end things for him? I'll be honest, right now my wish list has Lillendahl at the top but with Davis and little Gibson on board is he really a need?

OK guys as a neutral fan, I feel I need to step in and let you know this is an Iowa wrestling board.

Think Van Ness is on the small side at 149; don't see him moving up.

Barr & Sealy will be in that mix by then, too. I guess Barr is probably slated for 184.
