Been a little talk of him stepping in and Brands riding off into the sunset? Not the best case scenario for us in my opinion! We also have Strafford in red shirt. I believe we need to have TWOOO of our current 3 guys(adding Assad) fill 174-184.Since it's been communicated that Gabe is planning on going 174 we definitely have a big need popping up at 184 and 197 looks to need some attention too. The Mirasola brothers might make some sense now.
184 is looking just as bad. You got 1 year of often injured Abe and then nothing waiting in the wings.Been a little talk of him stepping in and Brands riding off into the sunset? We then have to figure out how to move forward from there? Does Strafford have 2 years left? Will Gabe be at 174? Can we bring in some new studs(which for me would be young ferrari) or get some transfers? Biggest "hole" right now appears to be 197. Not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel at this weight right now?
Well, IF we brought in Ferrari, either him or Gabe fills 184 after a year is what I am thinking. We do seem to have a problem with guys moving up weight classes for some unknown reason? Every other team does not have issues like we have. Guys move up all the time. IOWA, far less likely?!?!? Maybe this also plays into why we have so many injuries? Young men holding weight for years can have a big toll on the body!!!184 is looking just as bad. You got 1 year of often injured Abe and then nothing waiting in the wings.
I'm ok with starting out the year with Swafford at 74 and seeing how Gabe progresses. If he's ready, and a change needs to be made, let's do it.74 needs a 1 year transfer, 84 needs a longer term fix
Well I for one agree with everything I read on this board... if the cesspool says Nelson is done after this year I believe it!I am obviously missing something? Is everyone convinced Brands with not be back? Or are people unhappy with his results? You have to remember he fell off a dirt bike or something and is still banged up. He went toe to toe with starfish and I feel could AA this year honestly. I would feel pretty good with him back at 174 next year!
It won't happen in one year, but I think Riggins has the frame for 184.74 needs a 1 year transfer, 84 needs a longer term fix
Iowa never seems to have guys build into a weight. I’m all for Riggins, I think he’s got the ability to give it a shotIt won't happen in one year, but I think Riggins has the frame for 184.
Of course, that doesn't get us a capable 184 for 23/24.![]()

I see what you did there…. Not so fast though! 😎Looks good in red and white. He was partying on Blair who the fam has some history with I’m guessing.
He still just isn’t taking offensive shots at all. His limitations there just haven’t progressed.Well I for one agree with everything I read on this board... if the cesspool says Nelson is done after this year I believe it!
He can counter and grind out wins up to the top 10 perhaps but getting on the stand will be tough, he will need to be healthy enough to wear guys out with his pace.He still just isn’t taking offensive shots at all. His limitations there just haven’t progressed.
I assume you just started watching the team this year otherwise you would know about Kemdawg, Murin, and Cobe.Iowa never seems to have guys build into a weight. I’m all for Riggins, I think he’s got the ability to give it a shot
Kem is a rarity. Murin moved up cuz he had too.I assume you just started watching the team this year otherwise you would know about Kemdawg, Murin, and Cobe.
You are late to the party my friend!!! We have had this discussion on another thread from hell and back. I had said the same thing(had Gabe and lil Ferrari switched). Would obviously be a killer line up. The biggest argument against it seemed to come from people who have had more experience with AJ type people. Don't wanna speak for anyone, but they seem to believe the risk to reward is too great to take a chance on AJ?I know I will catch hell for this, but Gabe 174, Ferrari 184, and ducshbag Ferrari at 197 if he is found not guilty of his charges (only way you consider him) with Tony/Ben at HWT. is what we need at the top end to push PSU in the near future.
I'm all for guys surprising people but we can't count on surprises as a plan to win titles and taking 2 or 3 years to try and develop people isn't going to work well either. The weight needs to be addressed further and whatever happens so be it. The best producers we have had recently were all contending with the top people at their weight as freshman.Franklin might end up surprising a few of you. Remember he basically missed his whole Senior year in high school and is adapting to D1. I remember a lot Freshman that struggled a bit and turned out just fine. I’ll take Ferrari for sure to fill in at 184 if possible. Arnold is going 174 and probably staying there and he will be legit there. Hope he beats Starfish into submission. I think we missed out on Tate he could have been 184 also.
I recall all the threads about this. Very opinionated subject. You are late to the party my friend!!! We have had this discussion on another thread from hell and back. The only thing I would add is. IF he did get the charges dropped. I would believe he would still be under some kind of probation? If that was the case. I would think that might take some pressure off whomever would give him a shot. Meaning, he knows if he screws up, he is going to jail. Not much more would need to be said.
The other side though. You would be bringing in someone on probation and that would not look great!
Yep, you need hammers at 5 or 6 weights and hope to develop the other 3 or 4 weights into AAs. Then when you strike out at 3 weights you are out 20 points. A strike out at 3 hammers is 60 points. One you can recover from, one you can't. T nT are great developmental coaches, but you can't rely on that for 6 or 7 weights unless 2-4th place is your goal.I'm all for guys surprising people but we can't count on surprises as a plan to win titles and taking 2 or 3 years to try and develop people isn't going to work well either. That wouldnt push them, it would sweep them.I know I will catch hell for this, but Gabe 174, Ferrari 184, and ducshbag Ferrari at 197 if he is found not guilty of his charges (only way you consider him) with Tony/Ben at HWT. is what we need at the top end to push PSU in the near future.
