1st match -- winner never took a shot

More chokage by wrestlers we're hoping would beat other wrestlers. These Ohio State and Penn State wrestlers need to stop wrestling out of their arse. Thanks for doing that for the duration of eternity.

Perfect and fitting end. I'm sure casual fans get that finish. What a joke. Video review as determining factor, a precedent. If the hands touch it's a point. Get some good camera's in Carver.

Went back and watch Wilps' two rides there at the end. The first time, Shields for whatever reason waited FOREVER to start counting once Wilps was on the ankle. The next restart, Shields counted off the 5 seconds in right at 4 seconds. Looked like he knew he had to make up for falling asleep on the first count.

In fairness, it only happened with about a second on the clock.

In the 2nd, wilps had a leg and instead of walking brown back to the middle, he only backed up a step or two and so they end up out of bounds....

I thought it was a good call. It was the second time in a row he was being drug around the mat while holding onto an ankle. That's stalling
They haven't counted that fast all year or made those calls, let alone in Championship match to PICK a winner. Shields is a pathetic ref. He is easily rattled and needs to retire. The fact that he gets a match on Saturday night is enough to question the sanity of the entire sport.

Wilps was trying to move up. It was turning into a foot race with Brown while a hold of his ankle. He just wasn't quite moving up to the waste.

The inconsistency in calling it may make it a bad call, but it was stalling. I'm fine with the call, but would have also been fine if they swallowed the whistle like usual

Well that makes no sense.

IF we were stalling to win then we would have won. If we choked then we didn't cost Iowa a title. Had we won the matches we choked that supposedly cost you a title then we would have been in 2nd place starting the championship round with a chance to overtake that lead.

You shouldn't make silly comments like that.

Speaking of which, the same definition I posted above could legitimately be applied to Iowa's known style of tying up and pushing opponents towards the out of bounds area. Even your own fans on this very board have acknowledged it so don't pretend like it doesn't happen.

Shields gets challenges against his calls more often than any other official in the NCAA tournament, and has since replay was implemented. I imagine that is because he happens to do the most high level matches in the tournament most years.

Kind of like letting kids get away with swearing/cursing in your home and then one day deciding to drop the hammer. I'm sure that engenders a lot of trust and understanding.

I don't get the call as it has been called consistently the other way the whole year.

I don't know about that. Brown was the better wrestler. The Pitt kid didn't do jack for a period and a half. If he had, maybe he wouldn't have already had a stalling call against him and it wouldn't have cost him a point late in the match

He deserved to be dinged for stalling and he locked his hands. He's got no one to blame but himself for the loss.

Matt Brown is a great kid by all accounts and now he's going to defend our country. I respect the heck out of him. He's a PSU kid I can cheer for, with them behind us in the standings and no chance at catching us.

I thought it happened with two seconds left, there was time for Brown to look for the official and complain about it. Either way, the assistant was initially in perfect position to see it and should have called it immediately, however much time was on the clock. The slow-mow shot then showed the head official circling into position with Brown complaining about it. By then he was in perfect position to see it and didn't call it.

Frankly, you seldom see a clasp that flagrant and obvious even at the high school level. The lowest level official in the country should have seen it.

Wow!!!! Great to see gadsen get the pin fall!!!!!

THAT A WAY GADSEN!!! Pin that kid from Ohio State!

I'll be positive for the Iowa State wrestler winning. Accept that for those of you Iowa fans who want to keep polishing Ohio State's butt for winning the title.

Hopefully Moisey can make it 2-1 since Steiber doesn't even need to wrestle his match since he's already been crowned a 4-time champion (considering his first two national titles were actually losses, just not officially ruled/awarded as such).

Regarding the assistant missing the locked hands. In the finals there is no clock assistant aka towel tapper (they use audio only in the NCAA tournament). So in the finals, the assistant tries to position themselves between the action and the official clock, so with that amount of time left his eyes were most likely on the clock as he was counting down the time for Shields which is why he probably didn't see it, that and you VERY RARELY see wrestlers in the NCAA tournament much less the finals lock their hands so it probably didn't even register to him that it could happen. Now as far as shields not seeing it when he came around the Penn State wrestler's hands were covering up the locked hands that were there which is probably why Shields hesitated to call it knowing that a challenge was likely coming.

I'm not saying this is exactly how it happened but its a very plausible explanation.

And of course Moisey doesn't come right out and attack the Ohio State wrestler. He'd rather do that against an Iowa wrestler...

Ahem.....Brown was pointing at the locked hands. It's what I teach my little guy to do. I could see it from nose bleed section of 317

Tomasello has gotten more and more conservative as the year has gone on. He'll be winning every single match 2-1 by the middle of next year

I see why Brewer had trouble making weight this season - he's friggin HUGE! And he's good on top of it; he's just a beast.

It was the best anybody wrestled against Brewer -- nothing wrong with Clark's effort at all.

And Brewer apologizes to the fans for not having enough offense in the 3rd. Gotta love that attitude.

Still a good year for Clark. Brewer was just on a roll right now. Those early shots from Clark were hard to watch.

Had him gassed at the end but got completely dominated the first 2 periods. Brewer is a more explosive athlete

Really looked Brewers interview. Apologized to the fans for not being more aggressive in the 3rd.

Aside from 149 this his been pretty entertaining to watch.

Clark put up a good fight till the end but Brewer was a machine. Once again our guys look small. I can't understand how that happens. Do we have guys cut down and everyone else wrestles up?

the iowa program needs to figure out how to develop some offense, teach it or recruit it. clark had absolutely nothing to threaten brewer. and he's hardly the only one who's been offensively challenged recently. not the iowa style of wrestling i remember. too bad.

Pretty much just frustrated with how the last 3 days played out overall, that was the reason for "My God" above.

Not the end of the world, just know the title was there for the taking.

Proud of Clark's effort. The better wrestler (at this particular time) won.

I think some of it is just body type. I think we look pretty big at 125, 149, 197 and 285
