there was bitching when we went 12-0 in footballSo we're actually gonna bitch about going undefeated in the preconference?
Dear Fran -This will be the first time in 32 years that Iowa has gone unbeaten in nonconference play.
The last time it happened? Tom Davis' FIRST YEAR as Iowa head coach, in 1986.
You know what it's time for? A raise, an extension, and larger buy out!
Thoughts?

I appreciate your perspective ... My only add: The Michigan State loss (blowout) was much more concerning to me than Wisconsin ... Knowing this team still has it in it to perform that poorly makes me skeptical on the road in the Big 10 ...Honestly I've been very impressed with Iowa so far this year. The schedule has been a little soft but you can only play who is there. I think it worked out perfectly for Iowa based on what happened last year - these guys needed some confidence.
The Pitt game is a good example. I think Iowa 100% loses that game last year. Fran kept his cool in the ISU game when Prohm lost his.
It's been a good year so far and the only game I think you can be truly disappointed in was the Wisky game. But that's small potatoes.
If I had any recommendations for Iowa fans, it's that Fran is going to be your coach for a while. Barta isn't going anywhere. He just gave him an extension last year. Fran's kids are coming. Just watch and hope for the best.

The more I watch Purdue, the more I think it it is a huge opportunity for the Hawks.
I’m not sure what Purdue does during practice offensively: The shoot a wild 3 in the first 5 seconds of the shot clock is an interesting offense to watch.
Edwards might score 50 on us, but I like our chances with the shot selection I’ve seen so far from them. Hound Edwards, stick on Cline’s hip; then make the rest of the team beat you, or make Edwards do it all.
To summarize: I feel Painter has done a terrible job with this team, and has given Edwards too much control, where teammates are frozen out. Very winnable road game.
That doesn't mean it's okay. Iowa didn't just lose ... It was destroyed. That happens almost every time Iowa goes to East Lansing going back 25 years. Shrug that one off and move on.
I think this is the perfect game for Baer. Eastern's shot needs a censor bar. Baer wants to take gambles on defense. Put Baer on Eastern and it's low risk/high reward. The more I watch Purdue, the more I think it it is a huge opportunity for the Hawks.

That game was too close for comfort. Remember the Aborigine in the movie "Crocodile Dundee" where Mick sneaks up on him and puts a knife to his throat, and he says "Geez Mick, you frighten shit out of me!"? Kind of like that for me.The Pitt game is a good example. I think Iowa 100% loses that game last year.
It's actually spelled with a "C". Ryan Cline. I've spelled it wrong too. Pretty kommon.Put Moss/Daily/Connor on Edwards let JBO guard Kline.
Regards,
Your Not Even .500 in the Big 10

The main concerns with the Purdue game are
1) They've lost a bunch of close games. Maybe they're due.
2) It's a tough arena and the program has pride.

Did you and GB have a "falling out" or somethin'? I mean, the other one. Please email Barta so that I...I mean, so that Fran can receive the raise, extension and larger buy out that he deserves!!!
Just email Gary pleaseDid you and GB have a "falling out" or somethin'? I mean, the other one.
UPDATE: Barta is vulnerable after this HUGE win.
Expect an announcement soon on a raise, extension and HUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuge buy out.
GO HAWKS!
Fran's Big Ten record in 8.3 years 68-78.
Alfords Big Ten record in 8 years was 61-67.
One was encouraged to leave by Gary Barta. The other was given an extension last year with a ridiculous contract buyout which he withheld from the media and fans and was only discovered by a FOIA request.
Alford at this point had a better winning percentage? And Fran gets a contract for freaking life? Barta is the best![/QUOTE]You can’t hold the first two years against Fran in this comparison.
Alford was handed a team coming off a sweet sixteen, albeit one that had a lame duck coach that didn’t recruit for a year. And was coaching in an era where the Big Ten was pretty much as bad as it had ever been.
Fran was handed a dumpster fire, plus an overweight because of Lick’s coaching desires Gatens. And has been coaching during a bit of a renaissance of the Big Ten. Not as good as previous eras, but much better than last decade.
Fran still has a lot to prove and we’re seeing progress this year that will buy him some more time to prove it. Plus he’s been doing things right by not having players get into any serious trouble. But don’t come here saying Alford was treated poorly compared to Fran. Alford did less with more by far. 1 NCAA win total. Wasted two preseason all-Americans in 2002-2003 with an NIT appearance. Wasted his only good year with a Big Ten runner up and blown 3 seed while having some of the best Iowan high school players that stayed in state in a decade as 4th year players.
Oh and Alford turned a school with a long and proud tradition in basketball into a “football school” with his blown seasons and the Pierre Pierce fiascos.
that fat bastard needs to stay away from the carbs! The ice cream vendor?
Heard he's moonlighting.that fat bastard needs to stay away from the carbs!
yikes. For the record, this is the most wins Iowa has had heading into selection Sunday since 2006.
Better call the "Banker" and don't wait for him to call you.
W....T.....F...... If they happen to do good, then good for Nebraska, but if they don't, then Debbie has really screwed itself.
