I just read his Rivals profile and he is listed as weighing 395 pounds??? Is that accurate???

Yeah very close to that or 380 at the least. Will be real nice to get him to take on constant double teams and let our lbs flow to the ball.

Wow. That's just crazy. I don't think Gilbert Brown of the Packers ever weighed close to that and that guy was mammoth-sized.

I think if he could get down to at least 320 he'd be even better. Imagine him after three years of Doyle's strength training. Unlike lots of other freshmen, he could skip the gaining weight portion.

People are gonna hate on the kids weight, it's the easy thing to do but when your that big, with good height, bench over 400, squat over 700, have quick feet, really the only thing stopping him would be motivation. If he can get help with moving the weight in a positive direction and manage it constantly (that's what college is for not high school) he could be really damn good. Iowa has never had a d -tackle this big and athletic and I'm really excited to see what Juan can do in the future. Iowa has produced some quality NFL d- tackles (mr. Daniels most notably) and all of them were projects or "Iowa made players" who were transformed by the system. This kid already has the physical piece now all he needs to do is learn, work hard, and get after it. I can't remember the last 4* d tackle we had come into the program.

I want to see this young man excel, particularly at Iowa. That said, he did not play his high school games with that kind of intensity. He got driven backwards a lot more than he should have, and not always by a double team.

Wait till he gets held every play. Oh wait, that happens to our 280-90 pound defensive linemen.

Wasn't Johnson and faith 4 star dt's? So it's not like we don't get highly rated d tackles. Ballard, clayborn and others on dline

He will need to remake his body in college like Carl Davis. Harris will be a developmental player.

I don't think he's a project player, it's a matter of whether he wants to give the effort, and time needed, because the time is there. You can point to great coaching, and strength programming at Iowa, but it comes down to if he wants it, and is willing to put in the work, and have a high motor, while waiting his turn, instead of complaining and transferring.

I know most probably won't agree, but it's true.

Really like our defense when we have oversized DTs. You saw a few years there where we were a little undersized and it really hurts our D as a whole.

OT, but anybody remember that Maquoketa Valley had two huge kids back in around 2001, I believe they were brothers. What ever happened to them? Both were like 6'5" 350 lbs.

He has great athletic ability for someone of his size. If he is committed like someone said, the sky is the limit because he will get great coaching and Doyle will get him in great shape. It is crazy to see a kid move that quick for that size.

The campers trying to.block him couldn't even hold him. He will be as good as he wants to be.

What's the story on him? How did he end up in West Union? Why did he only play part of North Fayette's football season (injury?)?

Word is he was recruited to play for them. And was even living with head coach for a period of time. Again just a rumor I read on Iowa preps board. Had a large thread of info about that school and Harris.

HS football teams are recruiting kids to play for them big time in that area. Same for Spirit Lake.

You can't be 390-400 pounds and be in good enough physical condition to be a high volume player. If I remember right Davis's conditioning a huge problem for him when he was up around 330. The staff wanted to get him down to 315-320 just so he could play enough snaps. I think he is going to have to be strictly a goal line package run stuffer until he can get his weight down. Sounds like a freakishly strong kid. Get rid of a lot of that bad weight and he could be very good. That tape shows you he can move pretty well at that weight.

Going to have to disagree. Iowa uses their DTs to clog up area and take on two blockers similar to most NFL defenses. It creates one on one tackles for the LBs.

Davis was a good player but he also played himself out of the play more times than not. He got chewed out quite a few times for not keeping his gap. He was good at making the spectacular play 1 out of 10 times but that wasn't what we needed on D. Look at how much better our D was this year with Jaleel and Bazata; because they played their assignments.

Back to Harris- dude could be a star. You just don't find guys that size with that kind of quickness and athleticism outside of Vince Norfolk. He is going to have to work at it though.

I believe his dad moved there. Was initially in Illinois, then moved to Janesville Wisconsin before moving to North Fayette to live with his dad. He only played two games the previous season because of the transfer he was ineligible to play until the last part of the year. He is the nephew of former Chicago Bear Tommie Harris. I didn't read anywhere that he missed any games this year.

Tommy Harris thing was made up. I read his father passed away last fall. Hope he puts his trust in our coaches and he will have a great life with or without football.

Those drills don't quite seem fair for OL. With no helmet, makes it more difficult to take on a DL
Especially with a guy Harris' size, stopping a bull rush without pads is pretty intimidating. If any of those O linemen drop their butt like they should, he likely falls over them and that would hurt to say the least.

Drills like those are intended for D linemen to work on their moves
