2017 Commit Juan Harris

Don't want to be a hater but his lifting #s aren't that great. He has a 1x BW bench and a 1.5x BW squat. And yes, I do lift.

He get stronger as he matures and will shed adolescent fat.

Tommy Harris thing was made up. I read his father passed away last fall. Hope he puts his trust in our coaches and he will have a great life with or without football.
Never heard the story about his father passing. The young man will need a GREAT support system going forward and I think the Iowa program will be good for him in aspects other than football.

Best of luck to him.

That area? Same for Spirit Lake?

Look up West Union on a map.

Spirit Lake and Heelen in Western Iowa recruits kids the same as a college program. Flying private jets to visit kids across the state and in Heelen's case building a house in Dakota dunes for a kid and his family from Le Mars even. As far as Union the Eastern half of the state is just as competitive getting kids to switch schools especially for basketball.

If his those are accurate, considering his weight and age, those are borderline great #'s.

Hasn't this kid decommitted from the Hawks at least twice? Let's not hold our collective breath - there's a good chance another program will swoop in and poach him before it's all said and done.

No idea if this kid will actually end up a Hawkeye and I won't get too excited until he sends in the signed LOI but damn, I like what I see. The kid looks like Vince Wilfork. Can you imagine him taking on double teams and plugging up the line. Wow.

You can't be 390-400 pounds and be in good enough physical condition to be a high volume player

This. At around 400, he would need to be a situational player...... maybe 1st down run plays or goal line stands. No way he could go every down. That said, he did say that at 370 (down 40 off his high) he "felt like a butterfly" LOL.

Don't know about Spirit Lake but as a private parochial school, Heelan must recruit students or it will cease to exist. They recruit the area year round - I honestly don't know why this would be a surprise to anyone.

The same goes for other catholic schools in Davenport, Dubuque, Council Bluffs, (and especially more rural areas), etc, which compete for student enrollment against government organized and publicly funded schools. Recruiting prospective students is a big priority

Are you referring to Brandon Wegher? If so, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Beyond that, if you think that Heelan would build a house in exchange for enrollment of a teenage football prospect you have completely lost any sense of reality.

No it was not Wegher. And it did happen as far as house being built. Even gave the mother a job at Heelan to make transfer seamless. Heelen also tried to pry Jay Small out of Hinton.

Heelan's recruiting budget isn't big enough to build a family a house, especially in the Dunes. The family might have built a house in the Dunes but Heelan didn't pay for it just so a kid could play sports for them.

Don't waste your time. Haters are gonna hate.

Oh don't get me wrong, I hate Heelan as much as the next guy but I'm a little more realistic about their recruiting tactics. Finding Mom and Dad a job in Sioux City? Sure. Building them a house in the Dunes? C'mon...

A lot of schools recruit, not just the Catholic ones. It was pretty convenient when Ridge Kiley followed his Eagle Grove wrestling coach to IC West when he took over there as AD a few years ago.

This happened A few seasons ago. And Heelan made it work when they struck a deal with Wegher construction company to build it. As well as creating a job for the mother. Don't believe it??? Idc if you don't. But, it did happen.

I could care less about Heelen. My point is high school's are going to extreme measure to get kids to transfer. And back to the o.p. Word was Harris transferred and was living with the head coach for a period of time. Again I was responding to a guy who asked how Harris got to his current school.

I know another high school with took a private jet with it's basketball staff to poach a kid across the state and created a job for the parent. And my source is a local high dollar booster for the school. Who gave me that info.

I can say that one school in Dubuque does not actively recruit players from surrounding areas. All the new students find out about the athletic teams themselves or from other students. Coaches do not actively go out and recruit for these players. The athletic teams are comprised of students who have been going to school with the same classmates for years with a couple new athletes.

I'm not saying that there is no recruiting going on, but not to the extent above. Maybe it does happen, but I doubt a high school in Iowa spends the money needed to fly coaches in private planes.

Ok, I'm no rocket scientist or anything along those lines, but if there are 3-4 kids coming out of Iowa every year in basketball that are getting multiple scholarship offers at DI schools, who needs a high school recruiting budget? Who the hell are they recruiting...the next DIII superstar? What are there 10-12 in football? I'm thinking they should spend the recruiting money on better lunches.

Someone thinks a high school bought a house for a high school athlete's family to get them in the area? What, has Western Iowa become the SEC of the high school circuit?

I went to Wahlert in the early 80's
Wahlert had 4 of their 5 starters from Wisconsin and Illinois when they won a state championship 80-81 season
In 83 3 of 6 of our all conference football players were from East Dubuque
7 of 9 starters on the baseball team were from East Dubuque

To start the season, 4 of five starters for the basketball team went through Catholic schools. The team is going for their third straight state championship this year. The football team had maybe three athletes who transferred in, and the baseball team last season had no (maybe 1 or two if I'm wrong) transfers, and they made it to state.

You do realize that doesn't mean sh/t.

Yes, I know his numbers don't mean much. I initially responded to someone thinking these are strong numbers. A 200# player with these numbers is much different.

I would like to know what clean, & hang clean numbers are. Would also be curious what his CGBP numbers are.

Buddy of mine's 16 yr old kid (soph) is 200#. He BP 300, squats mid/upper 400s and DL close to 500. His dad is a world class bencher. I know he's getting proper coaching regarding strength training.

He got downgraded to a 3 star as well

If he wants four stars he simply needs to go to a SEC school, it is an instant increase in rating. One of the hardest things I ever had to do as a coach is work with a 380 pound kid. Most line drills are a waste of time because he was putting my other players in harms way and their lack of speed in games hurt us greatly. Juan is quick for his size, I hope he is the exception to the rule.

The plane story is legit considering the source is a local businessman in the town this occurred in who is a high dollar booster for the school. One of the coaches bragged to him about it. So if a coach is bragging what more of a source do you need??

I could see Spirit Lake taking a private plane (like a 4 seater, not a jet) to Eastern Iowa during the Kriener courtship. I still don't believe Heelan built a house for a kid. Wegher Construction might have cut them a deal on the house, but I don't buy into Heelan paying for it.

Wasn't Johnson and faith 4 star dt's? So it's not like we don't get highly rated d tackles. Ballard, clayborn and others on dline

We did but my point was not his size and faith was a DT but Jaleel was on the offensive side coming out of HS so wasn't much to watch on him playing D . I was just saying we've never had a big time recruit with the size and wualities of Juan.
