The argument is that they will not be anywhere near the team they are now. This is in the context of them beating Iowa next year. They will have one returning WR, LT, RG (That is all that will return for offense). On defense they will have WLB, LCB, FS, RCB. So a total of 7 returning players on both sides of the ball, while replacing Rourke....I don't know why google is so difficult for some of you.
While certainly unlikely to duplicate, or maybe even come close to the best record in school history like this year, the program is certainly on a roll. NIL funds, assistant coaches salary pool, attendance and national attention (especially from SEC haters) are all on the rise.
As for personnel, the guy currently starting at LG wasn’t doing so until game 10. He’s a back-up from JMU and done after this year, but the guy who started games 1-9, a transfer from Wisky, will be back. So, both starting guards and the LT are back. As for only 1 WR, yes, Sarratt, but Omar Cooper (27 catches/6 TDs), who’d start most places, is back too. EJ Williams, a former 5*, from Clemson, who sat since mid-season due to injury and just came back from the portal is back too. Pretty sure they’ll pull in a pretty good qb, hopefully Mendoza from Cal (younger brother is already on the team), or Murphy from Duke.
The D-Line, which has been tremendous, will be biggest need in the portal, followed by Safeties. Hope to make my first trip ever to historic Kinnick Stadium for the game. Glad it’s in September, not November.
Good luck at the bowl game!!
