2018 early commits.

This is a great class and it is a trend in the last 3 years. And they still have a few players to add.

I'm guessing 7th overall, 3rd in the west. Wiscy is going to beat us and MN will be us with number of players but we will beat them with average star rating.

You prob right.
Funny how excited we're all getting to land right in the middle.
I guess it's always been that way.
And always will be.

Currently, Iowa is above Wisconsin in average rating on 247 composite (86.85 to 86.38) and Rivals (3.18 to 3.05). Doesn't mean much, but impressive class by the rankings for our staff.

Why are you always so negative? This is a great day to be a Hawkeye and all you do is whine? Sucks to be you my friend. This is a very nice recruiting class and we are only in the “middle” because of our small class. Any fan of the Hawks should be enjoying this day!

sigh...
I'm not negative.
Just making an observation.
Sure, a few of these cats will turn out to be studs,
a few not.

Goodness gracious... I'm just calling it like it is.

edit: you're right, I guess there is a chance it won't ALWAYS be this way.

Without going back through the classes I believe the vast majority of the time Iowa ends up in the bottom 1/3rd of the big. This class IS a improvement top to bottom from other classes.

Riley Moss apparently signed today too. Where did the info come from that he is not a greyshirt anymore?

Then again, I remember Iowa's big class after the Orange bowl. HUGE expectations with those kids...
then nada.

So, yeah. In that sense, I can't ever really get excited about high * players.
But def some defense to look forward to.

Depend on what is important to you. If you go by total points we lose to Wisconsin and Minnesota based on sheer volume of recruits. If you look at the average stars I think we beat them both. Average stars on rivals I believe we are in the top 25. Overall points we are closer to 40th.

Don't walk-ons also have to sign a LOI? Edit: apparently they don't have to, but can.

So Brents and Johnson signed today so they are in, but are waiting to have a ceremony for February? And is Riley Moss on scholarship, or is he still a grey shirt?

Moss went from gray shirt to full ride. Hope that doesn't mean anything about Brents or Johnson.
Don't think so, Blair mentioned all expected LOI's are in. Btw, Moss' film is excellent, kid is physical and loves contact. Plug in a few good LB's and this Iowa will be flat out NASTY for the foreseeable future!

Moss still gets a full ride with greyshirt and still signs LOI. He just starts later. I haven't seen anything that really proves things have changed with him.

(A tell will be if any of the coaches talk about them, my understanding is they cannot say the recruits name until they have a LoI.)

I don't know how points work, but I assume points per player would be a much better comparison than stars per player.
Minny has 21 3*....12 are 5.5/borderline 2*.
Wiscy has 18 3*, but only 4 are 5.5.
They have basically the same stars/player buts points/player wiscy is way ahead of them.

yeah. No different than usual. vandeberg signed too. Sounds like he may join the team as a walk on in the Summer and Fall and then would be on scholarship after that or sooner depending on transfer etc.
Gotcha, good point, forgot about Meerkat although with him a ride opened up in July-ish and he reported as a full scholly player in camp IIRC. Tough to keep up with all this! What advantage does a pref walk on have vs. traditional walk-on? Earlier camp time? Training table?

It kind of sounds like Iowa may be going to incorporate a 5 DB system in the future by moving an athletic kid from DB to LB. Michigan has been doing this for the past few years with Peppers and Bush. If this Moss kid is what they say, he will fit in somewhere.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe they are limited anymore on most of those things. Unless that was just basketball or something.
