First, let me say that the 2018 OL class seems to have better quality talent. And the 2019 class is really impressing. Ezra, Tyler, Noah and a healthy Justin should improve depth quality in the first two years on campus. Iowa is starting have built OL depth like their DL. That's a great thing.

Iowa could possibly have 4 baby bulls in their 2020 portfolio that are freakishly talented.

Josh "The Incredible" Volk is likely to stay the number one prospect in Iowa out of the class of 2020. Smart and fleet footed for his 6'4"+ nearly 300 lbs size, The Volk is likely to be a guard or center at Iowa. I think the toughest competitor will be Notre Dame. I like Iowa's chances.

Nash "Smash" Hutmacher is a top in the nation wrestler at 6'5" 275 from Chamberlin, SD. He looks like a younger version of Schreff in the weight room and could play anywhere on Iowa's line. He was at Li'l Nebby's opening game and has a relationship with Frosty, but spread offensives don't develop OL very well. Still, Nebby is probably a local favorite. Iowa's NFL OL development and Doyle might win this young man over. Weight room freak. Looks like a good replacement for Tristan Wirfs if he goes to NFL as a true junior.

"Big" Ben Barten 6'6" 245 and still growing OL from Wisconsin. Wisconsin has two other 6'7" home state tackle on board for their 2020 class. That should bode well for Iowa as guards that are too tall don't handle DTs well at pad levels and their height bothers QBs vision a bit more. Barten has seen Iowa a couple of times and Iowa don't have to rush his development as an OT( similar to Jack Plumb situation). Put on good added weight and muscle. Iowa camper. Said to have good feet, balance and highly coachable.

I believe Iowa prefer lower rate Dylan Barrett over Peter Skoronski. Skoronski has a taste for Notre Dame and he may be shorter than his touted 6'4" 275 frame. Barrett, in picture looks to be at the 6'5" 285 range and he probably could a number of OL positions. Heard he has a nasty streak and plays with a bit of chip on his shoulder (Chicago suburb friends go to the HS games). Iowa camper - good sign. Knows Iowa's OL development tradition.

Not sure Iowa gets them all but if so and injury bug stays away, this class of OL could be quite memorable.

The only way Hutmacher ends up at Iowa IMO is as a Tom Brands HWT wrestling recruit and even that is long shot possibility due to the recent addition of Anthony Cassiopi (who dominated Hutmacher in a match this summer).

Hutmacher is a baby bull though, exceptional strength for his age. I think the Iowa staff could really develop him but Frost is all over this kid and Chamberlain is a lot closer to Lincoln.

Insanely great is a 2020 D-line of A. Nelson, D. Nixon, an every down AJE and whoever! I hope it's Lattimore at the other starting dt spot but the quality depth will still be amazing next year with Golston, Reiff and the rs and true freshman! If we only lose Fant to the NFL, this has the potential be one of Iowa's best teams ever. Agree on the Oline also!

Edit: It was late and was tired, I was referring to the 2019 - 20 season for the D line. The 2020 offensive line has a high probability of not having Jackson and/or Wirfs for me to be getting giddy about 2 Seasons from now. Next year could be really special, after two games I'm only overly concerned about Fant leaving.

Is Wisky in play for Hutmacher?

Anthony Nelson is a junior this year which means he won't be here in 2020. But 2020 could have Waggoner, D. Nixon, AJE (if he doesn't turn pro after 2019, which is not a given). Agree overall that Iowa has a nice thing going right now on the DL, good stable of big athletes who can move. Shannon, Linderbaum, Nixon all big, good-looking athletes at DT.

Don't know. I read an article on Hutmacher in the Sioux Falls newspaper a couple of months ago and he is quoted as saying he is not sure if he will pursue wrestling or football in college; will probably make a decision some time this Fall. If its football and he takes his time, he may have multiple B10 and B12 offers before too long. Kid is big and strong beyond his age. I keep hearing about Nebraska with their dogged recruitment so I think everyone will be chasing the Huskers if he chooses football.

In 2020, we're looking at having the following guys on the DL:
  • Epenesa (again, if he doesn't go pro) - crazy experienced by '20 - potentially sitting at all-time-great status for the Hawks
  • Golston - another really experienced and talented guy (could play inside or out)
  • Nixon - He comes "online" in '19 ... likely earns a ton of quality snaps then. In '20, he's a JR and likely a starter.
  • Linderbaum - Already will have seen reps in '18. He will likely be in the rotation in '19. He will be competing for a starting spot in '20.
  • Shannon - His body will be fully "reshaped" by '20. He'll be pushing to enter the rotation in '19 ... but I think he "breaks through" in '20.
  • Simon - I expect it could be a dog-fight between him and Waggoner for the 4th spot in the DE rotation in '19 .... however, with Hesse's departure, I could see him start by carving out a niche for himself in our NASCAR package in '19.
  • Waggoner - Not unlike Shannon, he'll be pushing to enter the rotation in '19 .... but it's in '20 when he likely breaks through.
But don't sleep on the '19 DL commits. Depending on the decision of Epenesa ... we might see a TR FR see some reps in '19 so that he's ready to be a more significant contributor in '20. I have a gut feeling that Hunt may prove to be a great one for us!

Do you see J Hunt at dt? I do. I like Lois and I think Karchinski is really a good prospect. Add T Fox, who looks very hard to block, and I'm happy. I read on cyfan,I know I know, that Campbell wants Fox really bad. I'm beginning to respect Campbell's ability to evaluate talent. Too dang bad that he has no chance with him.;)

Yeah ... I want the Hawks to land Fox bad too. However, I believe that is largely a race between Iowa and North Carolina (unless an even bigger program comes calling).

I see Hunt as a guy who could play either inside or out for the Hawks ... whichever affords the earlier opportunity. Just as we've seen with Golston ... the Hawks will play guys where they fit AND it's possible for there to be a fit at a number of spots. Hunt reminds me a bit of Babs ... and Babs started his career at Iowa at DE (after being at FB) ... and then only later did he slide inside at DT. Right now, I'm seeing the possibility of AJ Epenesa leaving early as significantly thinning out our DE situation after the '19 season. Think about it ... our projected starters at DE in '19 will likely be Anthony Nelson and AJ Epenesa. Nelson will graduate after '19 and Epenesa will likely have an NFL decision to make. Thus, there is a REAL chance that we lose BOTH of our starting DEs after the '19 season ... and the primary guy poised to step up to fill the void at DE will be Golston. In contrast, at DT, it's not clear who will be the starters in '19. It's possible that it might be Lattimore and Reiff ... but we'll also have Linderbaum and Nixon participating in an active rotation at DT. Furthermore, Shannon could be pushing for action at DT too. Thus, heading into '20 ... I see us already having at least 2 guys at DT who will be ready to step up and start.

Of course, '20 is a long ways off ... it's certainly possible that Simon or Waggs makes some noise and are big contributors in the DE rotation in '19. In such a case ... maybe the DE spot will be ready to handle the aforementioned transition?
