This is a critical class for the Hawks future, probably will take 5. I know Foster is the Big fish Fran is after and have seen comments about Beard at one point. Now I read Foster may be a cyclone lean and no word on Beard.

I checked today and of the top 150 only 12 have verbally committed. I was concerned that recruiting had been quiet but it seems Basketball recruiting is slower than football. In addition Fran keeps things close to the vest so hard to get a pulse on recruiting.

I have looked at the offer list, how many are truly realistic. Will Fran get 1 or 2 top 150 players and then bring in complimentary pieces? I personally think you can have too many stars.

When do things start heating up? With so many scholarships and Dailey and Cook leaving, wonder if he'll go the transfer or juco route for at least one player.

I would like to see Fran get DJ Harvey to sit one and play two. He would be a great wing replacement for Moss.

I hope we get a highly rated point guard. My first choice would be Beard but I could settle for someone like Ty Berry or Desmond Polk.

Xavier Foster will be a big one to get. We definitely need a solid big man since we'll be losing Pemsl and Kriener. You also never know if Garza will try to make an early jump to the pros like Cook. I think he's a 4 year player but you never know. If we miss on Foster then we need to get someone like Dawson Garcia.

I hope we don't settle for someone like Even Brauns and miss all the big fish. I don't mind Brauns as a Kriener replacement if we also get Foster or Garcia, but only if.

An ideal and realistic class:

1. DJ Harvey (transfer)
2. Beard, Polk or Pack
3. Foster, Garcia or Carlson

If we get one from each category then I'd be fine getting a couple filler type 3 star recruits in the 150-400 ranked range to fill out the class.

This could be a very solid 2020-21 team:

Pg: Toussaint/Berry/Connor
Sg: Wieskamp/Connor/Fredrick
Sf: Harvey/Patrick
Pf: Foster/Nunge/Patrick
C: Garza/Nunge/Brauns

Foster is not an ISU lean. Anyone saying that is purely hoping.

Scott Dochterman of the Athletic said that, too. So not just ISU fans hoping.

I don't think Foster is leaning any particular way at this point, nor do I think it would matter if he is. He won't be deciding any time soon. Spring evaluations will bring him even more offers. It's very possible he ends up going out of state. I'm beginning to think it's likely.

Disclaimer: I have no special insight into Foster, his family, his coaches, etc. This is just based on what I've seen/heard/read. Your guess is as good as mine.

Pemsl took a medical redshirt this year. So he'll be a Sr. on the 2020-21 team

Good point, but that still means we'd be down to 3 bigs on that team with 2 in their last year. We need at least one good center/power forward and likely 2 in the next class.

Yes, because Dochterman has never been wrong....... (See: Arkansas in Iowa City to talk to McCaffery)

I didn't say he's right. In fact, if you read my post, you'll see that I think he's wrong. But I was responding to a post saying the only people saying he's an ISU lean are ISU fans. Which is not true.

Do we know that he was wrong about that other than Fran saying he didn't meet with them? I did think it was odd that a plane originating from Arkansas traveled to Iowa City, Minnesota and Nevada on the same trip when all three coaches were rumored to be contenders and they eventually hired Musselman.

Suspect Fran is trying to get a bigger commitment knowing that another will then follow, ie Woody/Gesell. That will then shape the rest of the class.

Yes, we know he was wrong about Fran. The AR AD was in Iowa to talk to another coach who was in Iowa for a funeral.

Foster is a tough read. There are people who say he has told the staff he is coming to Iowa. Others insist he is an ISU lean and still others will tell you he likes USC or Kansas. Truth is I think no one knows. Only thing I can say for sure is he must enjoy attending Hawkeye BB games because he has been to a bunch of them.

Have you been living under a rock? Yes, this was answered already.

He reportedly grew up an Iowa fan, which can only help us. But he has been to ISU a lot, too.

Wasn’t it confirmed they met with Steve Forbes, who was in Iowa City at that time?

Well excuse me for not having 14K posts on a message board. The last I saw was the report about the airplane, hence the question mark at the end of my question.

Sorry, I was surprised at your reply about a rumor that was put to rest a couple of weeks ago. What I read was in the Iowa City PC.

No problem. I don't follow all the threads so I'm sure it was discussed here and I just missed it.

Frankly, it wasn't a big deal to begin with even if they did talk to him. The likelihood of Fran leaving Iowa is small, especially with his kids being in a good situation .

I would think that if Foster committed early that might entice other top players to commit. A top post player and top point guard are our biggest needs.

It doesn't seem to work that way anymore. I thought the McCaffrey boys would have been able to help land one of their AAU teammates. The Mccaffery's are close friends with the Hurts and we still have no chance at Matt Hurt.

I am a moron, but I'm not that excited about him. My read on videos to this point is tons of ability, but lazy. We shall see.

I’ve seen him multiple times and his athletic ability is undeniable. And it would look great for legitimizing our recruiting reputation. Having said that, there’s no way he’s a day one starter IMO. He’s 7 feet so he’s going to have to play inside at some point and he’s not physical at all. He’ll need some time to adapt.

You still go after him and get him here but no matter where he goes, fans will need to be patient because he’s super raw still.

Foster is the kind of recruit that Fran has to get if he ever wants to take this Iowa program to the next level. Borderline 5* recruit with clear NBA potential that grew up an Iowa fan, and Iowa identified and offered very early in the process. Not going to get any more advantageous for Iowa unless Fran’s youngest son becomes a 5* recruit.

Iowa's advantage is having Garza and Nunge that will play center. That's attractive for Foster as his game is developing as more a versatile PF.

I think it depends how hard the blue chips push for him. A UNC or Kentucky miss out on someone and swoop in to grab him.

I still chuckle at those that feel he's not that good....

It’s typically the same people who think just because a player is tall he has to play almost exclusively in the post, or that a PG has to be a “true PG” in order to be any good. It’s just a bunch of old white dudes who love “fundamentals”, taking charges, and can’t stand watching the NBA because they don’t play any defense. Basically, what I’m trying to see is these people are morons and you shouldn’t listen to anything they say about basketball, because they know nothing about it.

The last sentence(?) made me chuckle a bit
