2022-23 Schedule?

Iowa has a history of taking the team to wrestle small programs in the middle of nowhere in order to help grow the sport…

I can understand going to SHU. I'm not a fan of going to a program that most DIII teams can beat, but no big deal. What I don't get is why they are wrestling in Albany. If you want to give SHU a boost, it seems like wrestling them on their campus is how you get some buzz there. There must be a reason, but familiar with either program or not, it certainly doesn't jump out at me.

I don't know specifics, but looks like Journeymen Wrestling is putting this together. There will be 8 teams wrestling in Albany, so it's not just a 1 off Iowa vs SHU dual.

Isn't this like the other Journeyman Duals that have been held in Albany?
I went to those a couple of times, and they're fun. Obviously, this is not in Hawkeye territory, but a few of us diehards show up and root on the Hawks. I've also seen a few Hawkeye haters there, too, but it's not the norm.

I wonder if Iowa will get more than one match since 8 teams are involved? Seems like a good opportunity to do so.

Also, I wonder if any freshmen will get the opportunity to take advantage of the new 5-match rule? Will be interesting to see if/how Tom incorporates this with the team.
It’s gonna be a Donnybrook!!

Iowa will wrestle Buffalo as well in Albany. With three duals in 2 days(Army 17th, Buffalo & Sacred Heart 18th) I wouldn't be surprised to see a few different wrestlers hit the lineup at some of the weights.

If the HAWKS come to NY, I would do my best to make the trip to see them(son will be in HS Wrestling season). I do get what everyone is saying, but my guess is they would sell out a decent sized venue. can not hurt them to get a little more exposure in the Northeast.

The 5 match rule is the best thing since sliced bread.

I've seen them before near Albany at Journeyman Duals, half a dozen years ago or so. Not THAT many Hawkeye fans there though, maybe 3–40 of us. Heard a few Hawk haters there also, maybe 4-8 vocal ones. Lots of others who could care less about us one way or another, and mostly just rooting for their own guys on other teams.

This was at a community college, and I'd say the venue was 2/3 to 3/4 full. Had a good time, but nothing like a meet at Carver-Hawkeye.

So I'm assuming it will be in Pepsi Arena (or whatever corporation currently owns the right to that arena) where the NCAAs were on the early 2000s (or was it late 1990s).

2002 in Albany. It was the worst venue for NCAA’s ever. Public transportation was a nightmare and poor selection of hotels.
night life was decent.

It looks like Mike Z released me from HR purgatory (thanks!). The link below is a spreadsheet of the top 50 NCAA tournament scoring wrestlers. The base data came from Alex Steen's article on The Open Mat <link> from 2018. I updated the list with Nolf and Nickal and added a column for # of titles. Also, at the bottom of the list are the wrestlers who could crack the top 50 this season. Of interest to you guys, Spencer Lee could end up as high as #2.

I agree about the venue. We had to park across the river and ride a bus, which we had to wait on forever a couple of times. No restaurants downtown Saturday and huge waits Thursday-Friday. Our motel overbooked and we had to stay in Saratoga (at a much better motel) and missed going to Cooperstown because of the mess-up.
But it was among my favorite wrestling trips because I got to ride the Olympic Bobsled run, My brother from Massachusetts (at that time) met us and he and my oldest son skied Whiteface Mountain and Killington in the days prior.

Nobody tell @MitchLL. Not sure if he will be able to survive this affront to the Hawkeyes....
Naw…. You gots it backwards. I’m sure he thinks the poor schmucks who are listed as facing the Clones at that event should be offended. Lol There’s a fine line to his obsession.

ISU really going to be our toughest nonconf meet? Hope Okie State gets in there in February.
