*** #21 Iowa vs Wisconsin WBB Game ***

JFC normal basketball should not include injuring players so that they cannot play in the next game.

B1G refs need to clean up their act! THEY SUCK AT THEIR JOB!!!

Guessing we're going to be playing 40 minutes of zone on defense. Maybe Reynolds could suit up, since she's never used her Covid year ;)

Per Jeff Linder's Gazette article:

"Warnock was in street clothes, wearing a bulky cast on her left hand, which she injured against Penn State last week and apparently aggravated in the Hawkeyes’ loss to Ohio State on Monday.

The junior, who hails from the Madison area, is third on the team in scoring (11.7 points per game) and is second in rebounding at 7.2 boards per game.

Another junior, Marshall is fourth on the team in scoring at 7.2 points per game and leads the squad in steals (30). She is wearing a sling on her right arm.

The 21st-ranked Hawkeyes (14-5 overall, 8-2 Big Ten) are without Sharon Goodman and Shateah Wetering (both with torn ACLs), plus A.J. Ediger and (probably) Logan Cook.

Cook is dressed but wearing a brace on her ankle."

Seems unlikely that anyone except maybe Cook will be able to go at Michigan.

So much for that prediction - we opened in player defense :D

We have to score in transition. Offense has not looked good in the half court. Still up 15-8 with about a minute to go in the 1st

The Wisconsin provided stats just switched to random with 4 minutes left in the first half.

Some first half thoughts:

I don't think the coaches have any plans to play O'Grady at the 4. If ever there was a game to do so, today was it. Affolter is effectively the only sub for 4 positions. Yet the coaches still aren't playing O'Grady at the 4 to get other players a longer break.

I like Affolter's aggressiveness on defense. Once she gets some experience and doesn't look so unsure of herself, I think she'll be an asset defensively.

We look like we're just going through the motions, yet we're already up 18. Wisconsin has such a huge talent deficiency to make up.

Assuming McKenna and Gabbie will be out for the Michigan game as well. We're probably looking at a blowout loss.

I'm sure that Bluder is trying to protect O'grady from injury. We literally only have 2 bigs until Ediger or Cook is fully back. Cook is dressed which is a good sign. Ediger is probably out at least one more game maybe more.

Galling that Ohio State's rough-housing second half defense was permitted by the officials rendering Iowa short-handed tonight. No hope the Big Ten Conference does anything!!!!! (Sorry for my venting!)
And Iowa has only been called for 1 foul and Wisconsin 7 fouls so I think the refs heard Bluder's PC and got the message to clean things up.

I think McKenna will be out a while. Gabbie could be back. It's a shoulder injury and likely soft tissue so once the bruising heals and range of motion returns. She came back into the OSU game which leads me to believe it's mostly soft tissue and nothing more serious.

84-50 final. 4 hawks in double figures. Tomi had 8 points. Much more balanced attack but WI did not put up much of a fight.

I get trying to protect the 5s normally, but at this point we're 1 injury away from forfeiting our next game.

When you never drive inside the lane and only shoot 3 pointers, there aren't going to be a lot of fouls. Half of our shots were inside the lane????

Not only did Affolter play good defense but she pulled down 8 rebounds, not to bad for a freshman who gets very little playing time. The competition wasn't the best but I liked her play better than Feuerbauch's last night.

She rebounds extremely well for a wing. She did in high school, and there were signs of it earlier in the year against weaker competition. I think she has the potential to be an important piece for us in the future. A player who focuses on defense/rebounding and doesn't need to take a ton of shots on offense. Those are players we need with Clark and Czinano taking the bulk of our shots.
