Not a big deal but did we have a scheduling snafu where every big ten team has played one more game overall than us?

At the end of the season they will have all played 18.

Iowa had that stupid 9 day layoff that probably threw it off.

I think the OP is referencing the fact that most other Big 10 teams played 13 out-of-conference games while Iowa only played 12.

I don't know why that happened, but in the end I don't think it matters, and in fact it may actually help our resume. If we had played an additional cupcake it would have only hurt our RPI. I would love for the NCAA Tournament Committee to stop using the RPI because it is an antiquated metric, but until they do, teams are going to be hurt by some of their games, even if they win.

We usually play 13 games before the conference and for some reason this year we didn't. ....I'm assuming next year that we will play 13 out of conference games and the young Hawkeyes will need them all to learn, jell, and prepare for the Big Ten.

Ah, I see I thought he was saying one more conference game and I didn't check the standings to see. I found this below so maybe because it was a 3 game tournament in FL they scheduled 27 instead of the 29.

"Under the new rules, teams can play either 29 regular season games or 27 regular season games plus no more than four games in one multi-team tournament for a maximum of 31 games. Conference and other postseason tournaments do not count against the limit. Before the change, teams were limited to 28 games, with exempt multi-team events counting as one of those 28 contests."

A lot of the other BIg teams scheduled another non conference game when they had
Their 9 day layoff. Iowa didn't. That's the difference.

Well, if they are allowed to schedule 27 or 29 it would make sense that they didn't add one during the layoff. They have 27 scheduled plus 3 in Orlando.
If they can't schedule 28 anymore then this would make sense. They would have to schedule 2 more and that would put them over the limit.
