Of course, this won't impact U.S. car prices... car sales slimebalms who sell American cars won't raise prices just because they can... no way

Trump: Tariffs On Foreign Cars To Start On April 2

February 14, 2025

The New York Times reports:
President Trump said on Friday that he planned to move forward with tariffs on foreign cars on April 2, but did not specify how much the tariffs would be or which nations could be targeted. Automakers have been bracing for the impact of tariffs and have forecast significant job losses.

It will be fun to see if this comes to fruition and if the Trump administration is nuanced enough to parse out the “foreign” vehicles that are assembled in the U.S.

My guess would be no. Trump is literally the fat-fingered keyboard typer of policy.

I wonder if this is an Elon Musk approved move? Seems like he would like something like this, and I know important that has become for so many millions.

His only tool is a sledgehammer. His brain can't process the details.

Toyota manufactures cars in the United States, including popular models like the Camry, Corolla, and Tundra. Toyota has many manufacturing plants in the U.S., including in Kentucky, Indiana, and Texas.
Good point, my Toyota was made in the US.
Just bought a 2025 Grand Highlander, so I'm good.

It was "assembled" in the US. However it was made in a Japanese owned plant and who knows where all the parts come from. And no doubt a lot of the parts to make GM and Ford cars and trucks come from foreign countries.

It will be "interesting" (and likely painful) to see how he plans to apply the tariff.

In my life I’ve owned a
Honda built in Ohio
Nissan built in Tennessee
Chevy built in either Ohio or Michigan
Chevy built in Canada
VW built in Mexico
Hyundai built in Georgia
Honda built in Alabama
Honda built in Alabama

All of my “Asian” cars wouldn’t have had tariffs. But one of my “American” cars wouldn’t have.

There are at least 10 “foreign” assembly plants in the U.S. - in traditionally red states (AL, IN, GA, KY, SC). Another FAFO opportunity on the horizon.

Stop being an idiot and look at things objectively.

Your boy has fvcked up more stuff in a month than most Presidents do in four years.
