30 min, 0 points, 1 ast, 1 Reb, 0 stl, 0 blk, 2 TO

2 things can be true. Connor has been overall pretty solid this year. Fact is he’s 10-45 as someone stated in these last 10 games. And the majority of those are wide open shots. Also now that Patrick is back full time into the rotation and taking minutes our defense with Connor moving to pt and Patrick being unable/unwilling to guard or rebound absolutely kills our defense. So while Ulis hasn’t been great lately, when he’s not on the floor we have zero quickness on defense and get killed on mismatches all over the court. Fran does not care because he’s basically trying to outscore and outrun the other team. Works at times, but just is not a recipe for success.

Certainly he's a good player, hell very good, but how many "good players" get drafted early to mid first round? I still think these draft projections are him riding Keegans success. Kris has been pretty inconsistent against good teams, and frankly has disappeared in some of those. Don't see how that makes you a top 15 pick, but hey, I'm not an NBA scout, so.....
Have you watched Keegan play in the nba much?

Saying things like " he dissappears" doesn't mean anything in terms of how he projects to the nba.

That only matters if you're going to be a guy that creates shots.

Kris will never be asked to create his own shot at the next level.

His job will be exclusively to space the floor for the guy that creates the shots, then catch and shoot.

The nba wants versatile defenders who can space the floor and shoot 3s to compliment the stars.

OK? What game were you watching?

Here's the deal: Fran, perhaps naively, coaches his players to play according to the rules. that means no grabbing, holding, bumping or all the other things that "great" defenses do that the refs will allow because "They can't call everything". The OSU game is a perfect example (not that OSU is a great defensive team but they sure did a lot of bumping and grabbing). Fran also doesn't coach his players to flop, which they could have done on practically every Buckeye drive to the basket as they were leading with their forearm each time.

I don't understand you people. Not every player on the team is going to score double digits every game. And it's not Connor's fault that nobody could hit a shot on any of his would-be assists. Who should be playing in front of him? Dix LOL! Bowen? Please! Toussaint? I cringed every time he came in the game. He finally is doing ok with WV, but a stud he ain't.
This is my biggest issue with Fran, he won't accept that this is how college basketball is.

The most physical team almost always wins.

The more fouling you do the more the reffs reward it.

As far as Connor is concerned, I’ll give you my take. When he first stepped on the court, I looked at him as being a “role player” at best. And believe me I’m not degrading role players; they are vitally important to the chemistry and overall success of any team. Well, over time Connor got more and more minutes. A lot of people were on both sides of the fence with his playing time. Some on this board felt Connor was important and any Big 10 team would love to have him on their roster. Others felt he did not warrant as much playing time as he was given. I agreed with Fran when he kept saying, “Connor brings a lot to the game that goes unnoticed.” I get that, but his productivity (scoring, rebounds, solid defense) did not come anywhere close to any player, on any Big 10 roster, that was getting 22-30 minutes a game. Other players on this team were getting far less playing time for someone who was a good passer. It was a joke. And, after 5 years, nothing will ever change my mind. He was granted too much playing time. And that is totally on Fran. And, if you have noticed, Connor has literally become a coach on the floor. And every team needs a guy like that BUT he is complaining on every call, talking to the refs too much, and pointing fingers at his teammates for mistakes. I believe he has become a cancer. I won’t miss him when he’s gone.

It’s kind of funny when people point to the intangibles and passing into the post and whatever else. I always look back to that Oregon game when our starting guards were outscored 63 to 0. Not to mention those Oregon guys could create and defend.

Intangibles are great but you have to have some tangibles too.

Connor is a good passer but he can't ever put any pressure on the defense off the dribble to create the mini two on one scenarios where great passing is really useful.

Yes I"ve watched Keegan play. Kris may very well get drafted in the first round, AND I hope he does. My point is simply, and I stand by it, that if Keegan hadn't had the success he has I don't think Kris is a lottery pick. Too my untrained eye, his play this season is way more in line with the season that Utoff had then Keegan. Had some great games, (Hell JU set an Iowa record scoring 30 points in one half), had solid numbers and was even on the Wooden watch list most of the year. 6"9" stretch 4 who could shoot the three, drive, decent rebounder, and shot blocker. First team all B1G as well I believe, and he goes late in the second round, and can't stick on the league.....

And my point is what happens in college isn't really what teams are using to evaluate directly.

Utoff was probably a better college player than Kris but he didn't project nearly as well on the defensive end in the nba.

The ability to switch, and defend multiple positions is a crucial part of being an NBA role player. Utohff can't defend guards in space.

The difference in Kris and Keegan is also clearly reflected in where they are projected. Kris is a late first rounder Keegan was #4.

They’re not going to draft him in the 1st round because he’s Keegan’s brother. Yes, Uthoff was a really good stretch 4 in college. He’s a step slow for the pros. Kris is not. I’m not sure why you want to continue to argue about one of our guys being a 1st round pick. And for the 100th time, what he’s done in college only means so much. It’s what they think he can do in a more free flowing game. Now he might not do as well as Keegan but he will do just fine.

I hope you're right, I feel a bit shaky on next years team.
The experience thing is what is worrying me. We have great recruits and 2 really good big guys but freshman play like freshman, especially early in the year. Just hoping we get a couple transfers to shore up the inexperienced kids coming in.

Those stats only strengthen my belief that Fran knows his players well, especially Connor. He’s been saying for 5 years, “Connor does a lot of things that don’t show up in the stats.” Lol. Yeah, literally Fran. Big zeroes across the board.
That was vintage post season Conner. Even money whether he has more turnovers and fouls than points. And good for giving up several uncontested layups on the defensive end.
